Really? I'll never understand saving $100 over 2 years to get a weaker phone... Even if you don't want Siri, the A5 and camera alone (and antenna ;) is probably worth the tiny % increase over the contract length. The phone will be that much more "fresh" in a year (in terms of what it's able to handle as far as the core OS and apps).

i agree, and i think he can recover most of that $100 when selling his ip4s compared to ip4.

I have to laugh reading the posts of all you Nostradamuses out there. But admit it. Almost all of you were underwhelmed at the 4S announcement, hoping for more, like the iPhone 5. Now you all all like "yep, knew it all along!" Oh please

Most people believed the early predictions and figured it would do well, but still are surprised that it did this well.

Stalk my past posts and you'll see that I always hoped they'd keep the same design, and I was thrilled after the announcement.

I hate the iPhone 4S. I was, and still am completely underwhelmed by the announcement of only the 4S, even though most people here (including myself) were not really expecting the redesigned "iPhone 5" to be released now. I'm also not going to buy the 4S; I'll just keep my 3GS, and replace it with a similar one if it finally breaks before the end of 2012.

Does it matter to me how well the iPhone 4S has sold? No, I won't begin to like it or even consider buying one just because a lot of people like it. I would have been happier if it had poor sales, since maybe then Apple would release a redesign sooner, but alas, I can't expect most people to share my tastes.

Does my opinion matter to Apple? Not really, I'm just one person among billions of possible customers. However, the fact my opinion doesn't really matter to Apple, or to most of you, doesn't prevent me from expressing it anyway.

I can't wait to hear the haters spin this, haha.

They are upgrading on mass from their "terrible" iPhone 4's ;)

Thats the usual default answer when anything from Microsoft sells really well, "They must be upgrading from the terrible previous version"

I wish I could be part of the group getting the 4S. I am not eligible for full discount upgrade until 11/25. Sucks. I almost spent the extra $250 for early upgrade but talked myself out of it until late yesterday when I went to pre order and it said 1-2 week shipping lol. I guess I'll have to wait.

Nope

Just out of curiosity, did anyone find that their original "discount upgrade price" date got changed for the better at the last minute? Yesterday (Thursday) both Apple and AT&T were showing 11/25 as my discount upgrade eligibility date, but this morning at around 8am when I checked both sites, they BOTH had been changed to eligible right now! Sweeeet. Needless to say, I ordered my 64GB right away. :D

Nope. Mine changed to "anytime after December 2nd".

The 3GS is a dog compared to the iPhone 4. If you prefer creaky plastic to glass and steel, go with Android.

:rolleyes:if you think they did not make enough so they could say "damn we still is a big mf'er company and we did not even have to compete with the others just play catch up with the other comp's"than you seriously need to stop drinking the kool-aide
Ignorance raises it's ugly head. Thanks for the chuckle.

I dunno. The only people who think the iPhone 4S was underwhelming were tech pundits and specification dweebs.

Just go back and re-read some of the threads around here between Tuesday and Thursday. It wasn't just tech pundits.

The only reason I'm getting the iPhone 4s is because I like to get the most features available in a iPhone and Siri isn't on the iPhone 4.

For me, as soon as I saw 64GB flash on the screen, I was like "that one".

No. Feel free to look back at my posts I knew exactly what it was going to be. I was trying to keep people from setting themselves up for unreasonable disappointment. I also said the 4s would join the 3GS and 4 as the top three selling smartphones of 2011 so I guess I am iphonestradamus.

Oh, there were a few diehard believers, no doubt of that. Apple could slap its logo on a dog chew toy and people would be two million of them. I unfortunately am becoming one of those people, I think.

A phone in which every thing has changed except the beautiful, one-of-a-kind exterior. No other phone even comes close in stylistic beauty.

I'm sold, and can't wait till mine arrives on the 14th. Glad to have contributed to the pre-order sell-out :)

IF Apple had released an "iPhone 5," their stock would have been bumped up, for sure. Great for short term.

However, for AAPL to continue explosive growth, they need to sell almost 30 million iPhones in this current quarter. That is 100% possible with the iPhone 4S.

If they released an iPhone 5, the manufacturing ramp-up would not be able to produce 30 million iPhone 5s in 3 months time. In that case, when Apple releases earnings in January 2012, they would have to announce 15 million iPhones sold versus 30 million. Guess what would happen to the stock. Yup, it would crash to $200 in an instant, just like Netflix.

Lastly, my prediction is that the iPhone 5 will look very similar to the iPhone 4/4S, but thinner and maybe slightly bigger screen (3.7in.). That way, the manufacturing ramp will not be so steep.

Apple kept with the iPhone 4 design because it is by far the most beautiful yet efficient design on the market. They poured billions into its birth. Apple is thinking long term. They don't give a damn about the short term gratification of a mythical "iPhone 5."

Plus, after 18 months, the battery on the iPhone 4's is probably beginning to decline a bit. Since Apple doesn't do removable batteries anymore, on anything (which I really hate them for), a refresh would almost seem less painful than doing a battery swap (though definitely not cost-wise).

SERIOUSLY. Ive hated having to pick and choose which music I have with me, and w/ 64GB, I will have plenty of room for a much wider selection of albums. AND apps. And photos, and videos. It's a huge factor for me.

Other reasons? Much faster all-around unit, better antennas, twice as fast data speeds, better camera, and yes, Siri, which I am extremely excited about and I think represents the next big step in human-computer interaction. Underwhelmed, I am not.

Gruber of daringfireball.net had a great link to a comment about why the screen is the size it is. It's because Apple feels that 3.5" is the RIGHT size for a smartphone screen. Why? Pocketable without issue, but here's another thing I hadn't thought of and is oh so true: When used one-handed, your thumb can reach ANY part of the screen without straining. Say that about a 4"+ screen! Just another sign of how much THOUGHT Apple puts into their designs.

sold out

Sold out doesnt mean alot depends on how many was made for pre-order if everything was truly sold out then why stand online next friday to get one if that is the case pre-order is setup to see who would buy the device so only a few are made available, i personally have a new iph4s 32 so im waiting on the 64 gig iph4s unlocked version. Alot of people want it to show respect for apple and Steve Jobs i did.

That’s easy: sure, thousands of people are snapping up this phone, but they’re all wrong! You see, it’s an all-new phone, yes, but it doesn’t have a new shape! What are people thinking, settling for that? :)

Yes you're right. Why on earth would anyone buy one of these when people might mistake it for 16 month old technology?Ew!

You need a phone whose new shape says"Hey everybody lookit meeeeee!I have that awesome new iPhone!Don't you wish you were awesome too?"

Quite pathetic,actually.

I am happy you guys are happy. As someone who carries an iPhone and a Thunderbolt, I do NOT understand all these carry remarks about Android phones. Unless you work for Apple or own their stock, you aren't really, well.......

It's just odd. You can feel completely certain in your purchases without slagging on those of others. And yes, both sides do it. We humans love our tribalism.

I agree, and you will probably be voted down... (As will I)

Meh... I'll get one when I get one... No hurry, really.

I don't need to get it on launch day to feel like a man...

I have two kids... 'nuff said :D

The point is not to feel like a man, but to feel like a kid again. Every time I get a new Apple product I feel like a ten year old on Christmas morning.

I wonder if there'll be any mundane features on the 4S that aren't available on the 4... ringtones, etc.

Pre-ordered my 32GB 4S this afternoon. As a long-suffering 3G user who lusts after the 4 form factor, this week's update was almost tailor-made to please me.

I have had a 32GB iPhone 3GS for 27 months now. The iPhone 4S is a completely redesigned phone from where I am standing.

Well I really wish more people spoke with their wallet. I see so many posts of people saying meh it's an ok upgrade but I'll do it anyways.

If sales would have been lacking apple would bring a AAA phone each year instead of being on the lazy side and having the flock gobble it up.

Not trying to hate on anyone buying it, it's a decent phone. But could have been much better.

Nothing unusual here.
Was obvious it is going to sell well.

Still I find it not really satisfying if put against the 4. (for MY needs before some dumb ass starts quoting tech sheet).

That's what iTunes match is all about. You carry all your music library in the cloud and decide what songs you want when you need them anytime. No need for 64gb.
