Maybe this new analyst is paid by HTC to stop people from waiting for the iPhone 5 and by a Bionic? It seems unlikely Apple would bump up the processor and camera and nothing else especially when you consider the millions and millions of phones that they are producing currently in line with their estimates..

You're right, it's all a conspiracy.

There are gonna be A LOT of pissed off people (myself included), if the iPhone 5 isn't a significant revamp.

Apple don't give a **** what whiners about bigger screens, etc think or say.

For every person who says they won't buy the next iPhone if it's not got a larger screen or new form factor, there is the following person to take their place; someone who doesn't want/care for a larger screen or new form factor and wants the latest iPhone.

It's like the Old Firm game in Scotland. It's rotten football, it's overhyped, it lacks quality, but is £42 for a ticket. For every sensible fan who says Rangers and Celtic can shove £42 up their backsides, there is another foot soldier who will pay the price and take the seat in the name of loyalty first and cost/quality after.

For a 15 month refresh cycle I think this would be quite disappointing. The only thing that could keep it competitive with the new Android phones would be if iOS 5 was vastly improved in both function and performance.

there is also GM vs Ford in the 1920's and 1930'. Ford sold a lot of Model T's but in the end GM beat them because they offered choice

This. Emphasis on the fact that it's been 15 months. Releasing the same, slightly refreshed, phone is really a stupid move on their part.

I still just don't think they'll change the form factor much, if at all. iPad2 internals in an iPhone4 body, and it'll be iPhone4S, with iOS5.

New hardware next year. No ones seen the new one cause it hasnt changed by much. Same hardware revision and cycle as iPhone 3G to 3GS

If the screen isn't 3"7 or 4" I'm not buying it. I'll just have to stick to my Rooted Nexus S 4G (sprint) and my Rooted Motorola Backflip (AT&T).

F:mad::mad:K this article just makes me upset!!!! Although i know its just another rumor ill forget about once the dang phone comes out, whatever it is called.

There are potential usability issues by having the screen go all the way to the edge. The device would actually be harder to use because your fingers would have more tendency to accidentially touch something on the screen.

This is why the iPad has an 18 millimeter border on the long sides. When you are holding the device, your fingers have something to grasp onto without triggering something on the touch panel.

Same thing with my iPod touch. The four millimeters on each long side gives the fingers some place to hold onto. You really don't want the screen to go all the way to the edge.

Just because they could put in an edge-to-edge screen wouldn't necessarily make a handheld device better to operate. For a screen that is not meant to be touched (e.g., notebook computer), an edge-to-edge screen might be more viable design option.

All very good points that I have to second, or +1 or whatever.

To add to this, edge-to-edge screens would make for some pretty interesting case designs, and by interesting I mean disastrous. I admittedly have a "bumper"/"rubber band" case on my ip4 currently. This is a snug & precisely fitting case that leaves only about 2mm of space between the case and the screen edge (the long edge, just to clarify). I find that this case interferes with screen manipulations near the edge -- for example, moving icons from one page to another.

Cases for an edge-to-edge phone wouldn't be able to "wrap around" the edge glass because they would interfere gestures and whatnot near the edge. You can probably totally forget cases like Otterboxes. As already stated, even without a case an edge-to-edge screen my lend itself to accidental triggering of screen elements depending on how the device is gripped. Can't really say because I don't have any experience with such a screen. Though common sense seems to dictate that a border of some kind is essential.

A lot of people in this thread need to get a bloody life.

You're getting upset about the screen size on a phone? Pathetic.

Oh and a wee edit, the people voting it down are doing nothing but proving my point. Get some perspective in life you over grown children.

That was all assumption.

It's less assumption than someone randomly stating the the iPhone 5 will be the N97.

Even at that, you're completely ignoring the naming scheme.

iPhone = 1st generation
iPhone 3G = 2nd generation
iPhone 3GS = 3rd generation
iPhone 4 = 4th generation
iPhone 5 OR iPhone 4S = 5th generation

The name doesn't mean much.

Agreed, plus that engadget article is ancient according to the newer facts.
So then post something more recent related to N97, no one's stopping you.

iPhone 4S means Nexus Prime for me.

I like new tech, not speed bumps and a few more megapixels.

Apple = Fail

The next iPhone is all about taking advantage of key new technologies in the iOS platform. Current generation iPhone models will really struggle to deliver the perfect experience most of us Apple device consumers demand, once iOS 5 launches. But the new iPhone will have incredible processing power and blazing-fast RAM to deliver an awesome mobile experience. It will be so much better than every iPhone model before it, and will of course completely destroy every Android and Windows Phone on the market. So I for one cannot wait to get my hands on one of these bad boys. I'd urge everyone else to upgrade too.

Steve, is that you?

As an iPhone 3GS user with mechanical problems like the silent mode switch, home button and vibrator, I don't really care if it's a new design or a revamp of the iPhone4, I just need a new one and hope it comes soon

It's less assumption than someone randomly stating the the iPhone 5 will be the N97.

BOTH were originally random assumptions with the N94 being based on some analyst report (we know how reliable those are). But the most recent proof shows that the N94 is built in the style of the iPhone 4. So it would not be an extreme leap in logic to assume the N97 MIGHT be the iPhone 5.
