Inventories

I really wish Apple had made some statement regarding inventories for those of us with no reservation but the gumption to wait up all night in line. If they said they planned to have "Normal launch day inventories at our retail stores." That would be enough to get me to wait in line starting Wednesday night. But with all the hullabaloo surrounding the reservations, I would half expect them to open the doors Thursday morning and have only a hundred or so phones available for those of us in line without a reservation. I don't normally mind Apple's tight lips, but this is gonna suck.

All of you guys that reserved iPhone 4 and received confirmation emails, what time are you heading to the store? I'm not really concerned about them selling out - I trust Apple to reserve one for me. I just want to avoid the rush and make it back in time for work @ 9am.

I'm thinking of heading in at 5am. How about you?

I have a FAN associated with my account and I remember when the 3G came out I literally had to call while I was at the Apple store (with the rep standing right in front of me) and remove it, so that I could buy the iphone... then I added it back on later...
However on this go-round... I had no problem ordering from Apple's website (mine is shipped) with a FAN on my acct, and I have heard from other legitimate sources that it's not really a problem anymore. Although, I'd hate to tell you all this and then see ya get screwed. If all else fails, you can do what I did a couple years ago and just remove the FAN at the Apple store and put it back on later??

I am going to call up my Apple store and AT&T to make sure there will not be any issues. If there are any doubts, I would not mind to take off the FAN and re-add it later.

I don't want to go through any confusion at the Apple store when trying to add the additional line. I just want things to go smooth at the Apple store :)

I actually was in the same mall this weekend and decided to confirm my reservation in person. In doing so, I asked whether or not I was guaranteed a phone. I was told to get there as early as possible, just in case.

Got the confirm from Apple on the 15th and just got my reminder email.

Even the tool to double check the price worked fine (found in the reminder email).

Hope Apple / AT&T still make good on something from all of the hassle.

(I like how Orange/UK is queuing up the previous iPhone users first as a "gesture of appreciation for their loyalty". That's the way it should have been handled in the first place

Read the small print on your reservation reminder:

"Pre-authorization does not guarantee iPhone availability at an Apple Retail Store. iPhone is sold on a first-come, first-served basis."

I'm getting there around 4a and hope there is one waiting there for me.

If memory serves from the 3G launch, it's technically AT&T and not Apple that need your SSN, Apple is just processing it for you through AT&T. But anyway, I also don't see why they need it, and I know someone who recently had a bunch of utility accounts fraudulently set up in her name because someone got ahold of her SSN (probably through her phone company or some other company that had it but didn't keep it secure). It was a huge headache to get everything sorted out. One's SSN use should only be required for government or employer use, not for business transactions, in my opinion.

If you really want to get right down to it, the government is THE one out of all the parties mentioned that shouldn't have the authority to demand it. Yeah, seriously.

Yea I remember reading that - thanks for the reminder :).

Hope it's not a rerun of the ordering process for you chumps that have to go to the store to get it. I am getting flashbacks of the buying experience of the 3G and it scares me. Glad mine is coming to my doorstep.

Lol sounds like you are bitter because the reservation process was a simple walk in the store, put down your name and walk out deal and we will all be getting ours on the 24th while a lot of preorder people had a hell of a time getting their orders in, had to pay up front, AND a lot will not even be getting theirs on time. Hope it dosen't happen to you, chump ;)

Wait, am I the only who hasn't received one of the reminder emails?

I haven't gotten a reminder email either (did get an original confirmation). Called the store and they confirmed I'm on the list. The girl who took the call said she reserved one for herself and she hasn't gotten her confirmation email either.

She did say that I can come any time (Thursday) and the phone will be there but she suggested coming early so I have better access to accessories and in case the computers slow throughout the day hopefully I'm already taken care of. Makes sense.

Goooood point. I'm sold. Going in around 4am.

I'm stuck wondering if those in the "reserved" line will be able to buy additional iPhones, as new AT&T customers were only allowed to reserve one device. I called and asked if we could buy more in addition to our reservation. She answered, confusedly, that you can't buy more than you reserved. I'm fairly certain she is wrong on this part, but can anyone confirm/deny?

Edit: I'm going in a t 5am, by the way.

WHERE IS FACES AND EVENTS in photos????? missing features!!

Has anyone noticed that FACES AND EVENTS are not in the iOS4 upgrade today as it was in the beta versions?

Looks like Apple pulled these features from the final version compared to the beta version.

any have FACES and EVENTS in photos?

Now I have to pay $599??

Is anyone else having trouble getting a consistent price quote? When I checked with AT&T last week, they said I was not eligible for an upgrade, but I could purchase the iPhone 4 for $399. Then when I pre-ordered last week, it said I would be at $199. Then I used the link in this reminder email sent out today, and it said I wold have to pay $599! No one will give me a consistent answer! Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions? Thanks!

I called my Apple store today and asked if this meant that they would sell my "reserved phone" if there was more demand than phones before I got there, and the guys told me he wasn't sure why that was on there, but they had a phone with my name on it until the end of the day. After Thursday, all bets are off, but I would have it until then at least.

Also, thinking I will go about 4:00 for mine. Praying that 7ish MST is early enough to avoid a possible activation meltdown.

I know people on here want to go at 4/5am, but what was the point of reserving the phone last week if you feel the need to go before the crack of dawn to pick it up because you are worried the store will sell "yours"?

I bring news for you fresh from the Apple store!

As I posted earlier that my "in store pre-order pick up" was a bit odd and I just saw someone on here says the Apple stores themselves have the pre-order list already.... I made a swing by my local Apple store here in South Coast Plaza, CA.

The gentleman who helped me simply asked me for my driver license so he can go to the back and check on the list. I was a bit puzzled as the only information on the driver license that was collected in the online form was the zip code--far from uniquely identifying me, but I gave him the license without further exchanges. While waiting I realize that maybe they have my name and address extracted from the ATT account that was tied to the phone number I provided online. 5 minutes later, he returned with bad news... I wasn't on the list.

I, of course, showed disappointment and explained to him my situation and concerns and reasons why I was there in the first place. He noted that there are quite a few people in the same boat as I. He also notes that there might be enough iPhones for everyone(probably patronizing my disappointment) as there may be a large shipment for the unreserved people. He was hesitant to produce a number, but upon further discussions, he guesses that there might be an allotment of 1000 iPhones for unreserved folks as that has been the continuing trends from last iteration's releases. I made sure to ask if this 1000 number includes the reserved people. He clearly states that the reserved allotment is separate. He also notes that last year, around 800 unreserved people passed through the store on day 1.

So if his words are to be believed... There should be no shortage at the store I'm going to....

Hey hey... a disappointed man can dream can't he? :D

I am not going there at 5 AM because I feel the store might sell mine. I have never waited in line for an Apple product and want to experience it for a couple of hours. Also, I have to activate it and be at work by 10 AM. I am sure a lot of others also have the same thinking.

Early!

Apparently some dude set up a TENT next to the Knox-Henderson store in Dallas and is already waiting their for his iPhone 4.

Of course this just happens to be the one I will be visiting to pick up my pre-order. (Yes, I received my e-mail.)

Yup, got mine!

Now I have multiple iPhones reserved... "just in case."

I'm sure that all of the people waiting in the walk-in line will appreciate that.

I got both e-mails, but can't make it my store until after 1pm on Thursday. Trust me, I have an iron-clad reason for that. My Apple store told me that I needed to be there by 3pm or they would cancel the reservation, which obviously is contrary to what the e-mails says. I'm not going to argue this point; just wanted to see if others are hearing the same thing.

It seems that each store has it's own policy about that. At least that's what I've picked up from reading threads on this the last few days. Since you can't get there early, you'll just have to get there as early as you can and hope for the best. I hope you get one.

With as crazy as the 15th was, there is also a chance that some stores will not have enough stock to cover their reservations and pre-orders. If I was going to the store to pick one up (having mine shipped to me) that's what I would be worried about more than anything.

Does the time matter?

Since I have to be at work and have a fairly arduous commute, will I be able to go during the afternoon opposed to 7am? If you have a reservation for Thursday, is getting one Thursday guaranteed long as you get there before closing or should one be there 7am regardless?

Thanks
