Apple called and they said to ship it to my house so I can return it for you...

send it to me and I'll sneak it back into apple so no one gets fired... I swear

Ha ha, you guys are funny. :)

But yeah, if they were to send me an extra computer, I would call them. If they said, "Uh, yeah we kinda need that back," I would have sent it back, but if they said "No biggie, Merry Christmas," then I'd sell it. :D

similar situation

They sent me an another one by mistake:) I dont want anyone from apple to get fired. Should I call them? I wonder if I could get a reward.

zoeconner --- I had the same situation happen a couple of weeks ago. do you have an email address I can contact you at? would love to hear how you resolved this. thanks

There is no way anybody who receives an extra computer from Apple, or any other company for that matter, should assume he is going to be able to keep it without ultimately being responsible for paying for it. Although a miracle might happen, it's highly unlikely so the safe bet is to contact Apple and arrange for them to pick it up for return. You have no responsibility to pay shipping, or even to go to a FedEx or UPS store, for that matter. Once you contact them the ball is in their court.

Um, this thread has been dead for a while guys... the OP already figured it out. The horse is dead so we can all move along.
If and when you become a moderator, I will certainly do whatever you suggest about the topicality of posts. Until and unless that happens, though, it's still up to me. I posted because I thought then and still think now that the recent posts breathed some topicality into the thread. I might add that unsolicited advice about the topicality of the posts of others seems to me to be bad form. Anyway, if you will avoid giving me any more such advice, I will do the same for you.:)

Lol. A newbie actually took the time to do a search and got flack anyway. Now if we could only get the "when is the new iPhone, iPad, mbp, G5' ect... coming out?" people to do the same :D

Is this person alive? Did Steve jobs locked him up for getting extra MBP 17? Is he breathing?

The world is what we make of it. And looking at the amount of individuals in this thread who think they're morally justified to keep it, it's no wonder the world is in such a sorry state.

yea, when you keep 1 macbook from a giant company like apple who overprice their laptops, sure they will cry with black tears... come on they don't even care. what's 1 laptop for them? NOTHING. it's not like it happens all the time.
What abut the fact that they want 600euros to repair my old macbook which costed 1000 at the time? (2008). And i also have an iphone, a macbook pro, im a customer. if they treat me in that greedy way, then ill be greedy and keep the macbook if they send me an extra one.

True, but when we have mega threads (like this one), mods prefer that users simply start a new one.

Lol. A newbie actually took the time to do a search and got flack anyway.

So where is the line between "You should have done a search before posting a new thread" and "This thread is too long, start a new one"? Or is this a damned if you do damned if you don't situation?

After reading the whole thread I would advise you to keep it unless you get charged. Don't sell it to anyone but keep it as a backup to the one you have now. Only sell it if you are in a tight spot with money. Don't sell it just because you can and you can blow the money.

Thread resurrection!! I read the entire thing before I noticed it was over a year old, I wanted to know what Apple finally told the guy!

Also you people that said keep it are the worst kind of scum.

If it was me:

If I had to sign for it: contact apple

If I didn't have to sign for it: keep it.

Simple as that.... Let this be the guide that everyone follows.
