I thought Severence was ok for a puzzlebox show. But like Lost you are just waiting for the shoe to drop when you find out the writers have no plan and are just making stuff up as fast as they can without any over arching coherence.

When I get Apple TV free again I will try out Silo.
Fun fact - Best Buy is still doing 3 free months, I've used it multiple times in the last year.

Yeah, made it up.

When following news, it's important to cover all of the facts. After these new reports, further details came out. Apple confirmed that they never stopped their advertising blitz, and Musk actually met with Tim Cook at Apple headquarters in person to discuss a path forward.

What’s the problem with AppleTV+? For mediocre Sci-Fi stories like “For All Mankind” and “Silo”, it can depicts it extremely well, but, for real masterpieces like “Foundation”, it simply ruins it into sh*t?!!!
...because the original Foundation trilogy may be a classic of written SF beloved by many, but was completely useless as the basis for a TV show without completely "re-imagining" it. I actually quite like this new space opera about 'the Genetic Dynasty" but it's being hamstrung by having to pretend to have something to do with Foundation.

By a coincidence, I happen to be re-reading Wool (book 1 of what is now being called the Silo trilogy) alongside watching the show, and they have made a lot of changes to the story - looks like its mainly to inject more action & delay resolving part of the mystery while also padding out the first half of the first book (which is already fairly slow-moving) to an entire season. I guess that Wool isn't such a beloved book as Foundation so people aren't complaining.

Its not just Apple - Netflix completely dropped the ball with Altered Carbon (first series was OK but completely re-wrote the backstory so none of the later stories that relied on Kovacs being a mercenary anti-hero would work) and American Gods started brilliantly then hit pause on the plot and just kept repeating itself. One problem seems to be that Hollyweird has gone from trying to squash a ~600 page novel into a 120 minute movie to trying to pad it out to three 8-hour seasons of long-form TV.

As a person that knows the most basic things about steam power generation I was absolutely blown away in how badly they did that in the show.

  • Turbine running without the sides installed?
  • Put a human inside the turbine?
  • Spray a super hot piece of metal with cold water and it didn't shatter?
  • Turbine designed with no bypass so it couldn't be safely shut down?
I don't remember these problems in the books but it's been a couple years sense I read them.

Very few know how much is getting spent. All we (the public) know is the Twitter revenue went down 59% last quarter based on their most recent earnings report.
 Twitter hasn't reported earnings in almost a year. Last earnings report was in July 2022 for their 2nd quarter and right before Musk was more or less forced to complete his purchase of Twitter.

That is contrary to what Twitter insiders have said based on a news article from earlier this month

Some of Twitter’s biggest advertisers — including Apple, Amazon and Disney — have been spending less on the platform than last year, three former and current Twitter employees said. Large specialized “banner” ads on Twitter’s trends page, which can cost $500,000 for 24 hours and are almost always bought by large brands to promote events, shows or movies, are often going unfilled, they said.

and what data from Insider Intelligence, a market research firm, shows

It was previously reported that over 500 advertisers stopped spending on Twitter earlier this year and daily revenues were 40% lower than the year before.

Major advertisers like Apple and Amazon reduced their expenditure on the platform and earlier this year, Insider Intelligence revised its forecast for Twitter’s global ad revenue in 2023, reducing it by 37% to $2.98 billion. This represents a 28% decline from Twitter’s projected ad revenue of $4.14 billion for 2022.

It seems Twitter is now determining ways to simplify buying ad space and creating automated ways to purchase ads outside of the US.

Key takeaways

  • Twitter’s US ad revenue dropped by 59% in April-May, falling short of sales projections
  • Content concerns, including hate speech and explicit material, may deter advertisers from using Twitter’s platform
  • Major advertisers, such as Apple and Amazon, reduced spending on Twitter

Who do we believe?

So you were able to selectively remember the news saying they left, but not the news they were back and twitters biggest advertiser?

You know, a large number of people do not follow Twitter related news as closely as you and some others do. Thankfully I have better things to do with my time.

I like the Silo show a lot. They did a great job. When they posted it on Twitter, there was no closed caption. I thought Apple was all about accessibility. 😶‍🌫️

EDIT: I take back what I said. The embed version doesn't show CC but when you go to the full Twitter webpage, it does show CC. I hope they can fix the issues.
The twitter embed also has CC if you open the vid in full screen

I see a lot of love for Silo here but I really lost interest as it’s nothing like the book it is based upon. Also they are stringing it out……….. ( yawn!! )
Interesting!!

Nothing like the books????

The Silo series books are some of my favorite dystopian trilogies.

I watched the first episode and those it was very similar to the books so I stopped watching and decided to re-read the series.

If you reply, PLEASE, no TV series spoilers ;)

"better things to do with my time" you're on a message forum posting about twitter, you understand that right?

I don't give a hoot about twitter news, I left the platform months ago.

Just found it humorous you were able to keep up with the negative twitter news.

Yeah, made it up.
they pulled out and then elon visited to make a deal

It's weird that you asked the question "I thought Apple basically pulled out of Twitter?" but then when someone gives you the answer, your reply is "I have better things to do with my time" when you don't like the facts.

Yeah, made it up.
You missed the part where he went to Apple campus to have lunch with Tim Cook and Apple restarted their ads campaign on twitter.

I’m glad to see you say that, because I read the book years ago and I’m thinking “Did this really happen?” I don’t think it did. I’m enjoying it though and because I’m in NZ we get to see the finale first. It’s been hard waiting a week. Like old TV times
