I’ve seen all of these ads and consistently get the one saying “relax it’s iPhone” while a guy is talking on the phone in a heavy downpour of rain. If Apple wants to advertise like this, shouldn’t they at least cover water/drop damage in the included year of Apple Care?
Ads are meant to be exaggerations of reality. In reality someone caught in a downpour would seek shelter.

The reason why Apple will never cover water ingress warranty claims is the simple fact is that it does not know if the user has exceeded the limitations set or it’s an actual manufacturing defect without user intervention. If it’s a factory defect Apple would not want to admit it unless it’s got multiple cases and reports which would lead to tracking a faulty batch or worse case a class-action to set things right.

LOL I have not dropped mine at all and it is all scratched up!
Edward Scissorhands.

What’s surprising was that before Apple moved to a paper screen protector new from the box the plastic protector was ample protection for my iPhone XS and 11. Now I have to put a 3rd party screen protector as a precaution.

Seems like more environmental waste on every level.

Stupid commercial...

It basically says:
“If you drop your phone into something soft, it won’t break”

I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a patch of loose/soft dirt in the middle of a city and had the “luck” of dropping my phone right into it — missing the screen shattering concrete all around me.

That commercial is saved for the iCloud backup to purchase more storage from its shameless 5GB base. I am sure Apple can at least match Googles 15GB after so many years, even thumb drive low capacity is 32GB.

panic mode. that will break the apple's back.
Comedians in Cars driving or whatever that show is called. Suddenly brakes, person crossing the road without paying attention while talking on iPhone, handsets is thrown into the air and lands on Jerry’s lap and cracks into a million pieces.

This makes me think of the iPhone 7 ad, when the actor was falling backwards into the pool with the phone. Eventually that was pulled from their marketing campaign from the backlash supposedly over the whole ‘water resistance’ debate.

My cat skidded my 12 mini off a 450mm high coffee table onto a wooden floor and it now has small chips and scratches all along the top glass edge.

Wasn’t impressed by Apple or the cat. It’s the first damage I’ve ever had to a screen in 22 years.

Of course the cat then went onto smash my 55” TV a couple of months later by BASE jumping onto it and pulling it over, so I think it just has a vendetta against me.

I’m all for more freebies, but your comparison with a flash drive is downright silly. :D If you think a flash drive offers you more value, then just get them. I’ve seen some flash drives with lightning connectors.

As for 5GB free icloud, that’s actually the market standard. OneDrive is 5GB free as well. Dropbox, the gold standard of cloud storage, actually is just 2GB free. Google offers 15GB free because they’re google, different business model.

I'll be sure not to freak out when my phone lands on soft dirt or tall grass. How about they just put a loop you can tie one of those Wii controller straps so if you know your prone to dropping it you can strap that on and not worry as much. Or would that eat into those sweet phone replacement profits?
