Deep ads, Kygo is one of my favourite up and coming artists currently, so its nice to see him get a push..

Listening to music should be a fun experience (most of the time) I don't think these ads show that like the early iPod days with the silhouettes.

They keep saying you can get closer to the artist by following them on connect, but I already follow them on Twitter, like them on Facebook, see what they are eating, drinking, wearing (selfies) on Instagram and working on with SoundCloud. As someone else mentioned Connect is all about promotion and nothing else.

If we want "new artists" we all know where to go and how to find them. Apple trying to shroud corporate greed in the guise of altruism is laughable. Just stick to making the best computers you possibly can and leave the rest to us.
The "for you" tab is like my Facebook timeline and that's probably how they pitched the labels 'you'll sell more music!'. People with dollar signs in their eyes don't care about user experience.

I seems obvious to me most AM apologists here in all probability are AAPL stock holders in denial trying to stop the bleeding. I know from personal experience its hard to admit defeat but its probably a better idea to sell at a small loss now and go short, because from now on the only direction the shares are going to go is south. I think 60-80 bn is a fair valuation, as Steve said, skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been.

Okay, I'll play.

What.png
1. My favorites get Eden more precise everytime I select artists and view more artists.
2. It takes me 2 seconds to read this simple menu.
3. How did you end here? Did you Click on the top banner in the New section, tap on the artist's name, and looked at his/her top songs. I don't how else you got there.

Your turn

People who think For You is amazing should really check out Spotify's Discover Weekly. It's all that I wanted For You to be. I've had three 30 song playlists so far (I wish it was Discover Twice Weekly!) and out of those I disliked one song and had one in my library. Remaining 88 were either remixes I never heard of artists that I like a lot, or (mostly) great music by great artists I have never heard before. I'm saving the Discover Weekly playlists to a folder because they're insanely good.

In the meantime, For You recommends me Please by Pet Shop Boys which I own since 1991, Upstairs At Eric's by Yazoo which I own since 2000 or so, and a playlist called "Running to '80s Electronic' which isn't all that bad except for the fact I own 60% of those songs already. There is one artist on this playlist I don't know, B-Movie. For comparison, this week's Spotify playlist has 27 artists I don't know, out of 30.

AM wasn't the revolutionary new way to listen to music Apple made it out to be. I think that was her biggest disappointment. She thought it was going to be the "next level" of music but it turned out to be just one among many.

That's exactly it. When iPhone, iPad, iPod came out, they just smashed the competition to bits. When Apple Music came out, it proved to be a bug-infested monster that offers nothing new. Beats 1 is just another radio station. The streaming part is just another streaming app. They're pimping it as much as they can but at the end it's Spotify with a white, non-aligned interface. (Thank you for posting those screens @ErikGrim, I'm a graphic designer and this is driving me mental. I don't think Apple Music even had a designer take a quick look at it.)

When they expand the library limit from 25k to 100k I'm going to make at least two backups, then switch it on and see what happens. I'd love full integration, that could be the Spotify killer for me. For now, though, Apple Music is a sad excuse for what is could have been, and no amount of ads is going to change that.

Apple Music is a BLOODY NIGHTMARE. The content might be very fulfilling but usability-wise it's is an absolute ludicrous joke. iTunes UI makes you wanna hang yourself. I wasn't able to get a single playlist downloaded for offline listening because "Looks like this is no longer available". No number of resetting, logging out and in, restarting changes anything. I resubscribed to Spotify Premium within 10 or so days.

A nightmare! No hyperbole here!

It has never been more clear what Apple has lost with the ending of their creative partnership with Chiat Day.

Apple's former ability to clearly and memorably communicate through advertisement is replaced with forgettable mediocrity. Can Phil not see this?

I won't eulogize the loss of Steve too much, I get it, he's gone. But is there seriously no one with sway at Apple to get ads (among other things) back to a good place?
According to Ken Segall (the man who came up with the name iMac), Steve Jobs had a special relationship with advertising agencies that Phil Schiller doesn't have.

http://kensegall.com/2014/06/apples-marketing-rethink-not-exactly-a-surprise/
Jony Ive was Steve’s design soulmate. There was no internal equivalent when it came to advertising. The agency was his Jony.

Of course, Steve had Phil Schiller and others as marketing advisors. But his relationship with the agency was special — forged through many years of history-making ads.

As much as the agency wanted Phil to be happy, the highest priority was making Steve happy.

So it didn’t take a genius to guess that when Phil became the marketing leader, the nature of the agency relationship would change dramatically.

As the new chief, Phil was veto-proof. However, he did not have the same level of taste as Steve. Nor did he have an emotional connection to the agency.

The agency’s magic shield had lost its power source — and the critics inside Apple gained a louder voice.

There isn't really much difference between Apple Music and McDonalds user base. A perfect wholemeal feast.

Can either of you explain why?

If you want to listen to a song you previously bought from iTunes, why wouldn't you just open up Apple music and listen to it on there now? If a movie is on Netflix I'm sure as heck not dragging out my old DVD to watch it. What's the appeal of going back to dig up your old AAC file when the streaming service is right there?

I don't get that at all.

I like it that way too - I guess I don't see it as two separate things, my library + a streaming service.

With the streaming service, you can find anything and listen to it. But I like to add stuff from the streaming service to my library. So then when I scroll through my library, it includes all my existing stuff + stuff I have added to it from the streaming side.

So "all my existing stuff" + "stuff I have added to it from AM" is effectively my personal subset of "all of AM".

I get that it comes down to how you look at it, and how you like to view it, but that seems to suit me pretty well.

Well, there were numerous issues so what exactly did they fix? Was the DRM issue fixed? Was the duplicates issue fixed? Was the forced use of the iCloud Music Library fixed? I'm not trying to be snarky, I legitimately would like to know if these issues were fixed.

When AM first came out it completely wrecked my library.

I restored it from a back up, and tried again and it was mostly fine.

I still notice odd issues though - things like tracks being swapped for a different version, which is really annoying. But oddly its only the wrong version on my phone, but the correct version in iTunes on my Mac.

If anyone knows why that is, or how to fix it, I'd love to know!

I see this as a race between spotify and apple music. If spotify bring a decent family plan that can compete with apple I switch back to spotify. If apple fixes the UI I stick with apple. Race has begun!
That's the crux of it for my family, too. We love Spotify but the lack of family plan is a problem. Currently only one of us can use it at a time. So my husband wants to go with Apple who does offer a family plan. But I prefer Spotify as I already have my playlists set up on it and don't want to change.

My complaint with both services is that I can't find some foreign artists I like. They have L'arc~en~Ciel, which is a nice surprise, but not older J-pop artists that are still big names in Japan. I'd like a bigger international library.

I don't know if people here will start insulting me but I guess I'm the only one that really likes apple music and iTunes, I don't find it cumbersome at all, actually it's very intuitive. I had Spotify before but I never really used it as I found it too complicated, with Apple music I already have lots of playlists, new albums and artists plus I love the radio stations, specially Beats 1. Of course I talk only about my experience so I apologise if you find my comment wrong or offensive.

Not too sure if I'm overly bothered with streaming to be honest. With the free Apple Music trial I've listened to a few albums I'm sure I wouldn't have bothered with. The mixtape radio station has been o.k. although it keeps playing stuff I've selected not to play again. But is it worth £120 per year? I think not. It doesn't help having variable quality wifi and 3g/4g in the office so those annoying pauses or drop outs tend to make me go back to my local music storage.

Still it's nice to try stuff for free, maybe I'll revisit in a few months once it's all sorted.

"All in one place" is overused so much... it makes me think of when Silicon Valley poked fun at "...will make the world a better place."

From the tone of the replies, Apple knows how to repel people who would never use its service in any case.

So far, I'm enjoying Apple Music, especially to play the stuff I don't need to download and save, and for discovery.

I'm with you... I love how I can pull up Styx' Paradise Theater and just listen to it, or if I hear a song I like at the Seattle Aquarium, I can use Shazam/Siri to recall the song for me, and we listen to it on the way home.

Some may not like it, but I do, and that's all that matters to me.

Apple Music has been pretty solid for me so far. I'm seriously considering paying the $9.99/mo for it and I'm one who was very averse to paying for "renting" music. The "For You" does an excellent job at recommending music and playlists from artists I might like. Then the sheer convenience of being able to automatically add any song that I like to my own iTunes library instantly on the spot is just too amazing. The other day I went out to eat and heard a song I liked playing, found out what it was using Shazam, searched in Apple Music, and added it to my library right there. In the past I would have to go search for the artist on Amazon or something and buy their album later.

I'm not seeing any of the horror story bugs of people saying it ruined their music libraries. Mine was unaffected by the addition of Apple Music and so far it is working as advertised. I pretty much haven't had to actively hunt for new music anymore because Apple Music brings it to me. The tight integration with iOS and Mac is what will set it apart from other services and end the likes of Spotify.

Hey it's okay to like Apple Music ;) (of course I only talk for myself... LOL)

Judging by people's testimonies, I would love Apple Music if I started with an empty library. Obviously there's not much it can break then. Also I am guessing that For You quality depends on past iTunes purchases (99% of my library is CD rips) and the pink circles clicked at the beginning (AM offered me such abysmal selection that after a while I just gave up).

I lost my music collection on my mac the other day.
23,000 tracks - and no, I was foolish and did not have a good backup of it. I have recovered about 1,000 tracks - mainly my favourite songs, and some things I had from other download services.

You would think that it would be a great time for me to not go and re-rip all my CDs, but subscribe to :apple:music., but Im still not convinced.

At least 40% of my listening is of independent and unsigned artists - almost all of which are not on iTunes - as it's predominantly Hard Rock and Metal.

used the free music trial , and had a spotify premium trial ($1 for 3 months). Neither program is great in terms of usability. IMHO, spotify is a bit easier to use, but thats not saying much. But spotify has a free service, not going to pay for something thats worse, then what I get free.

By Gods, I'd cry, have a fit and throw things around the room. I just spent four weeks going through all my CDs, re-ripping them in 256kbps (some were not ripped at all, some were ripped in 128, some were still .mp3...). 1/3 or so was already fine quality, but the other 2/3 gave my DVD drive quite a workout. Most of this stuff doesn't exist on any streaming site, mostly CD singles with b-sides and remixes.

*off to make one more backup*
