"Hey Siri, goodnight" is meant for homekit. If you have homekit enabled lighting in your house, saying goodnight shuts them all off. If you don't have connected lighting, then saying goodnight elicits the response you got.
I does if it works. But she usually can't find my HomeKit devices despite them existing and being set up.

Apple tonight shared two new iPhone 6s ads on its YouTube channel, highlighting the Hey Siri feature and the speed of the device at tasks like opening messages, browsing Safari, using Messages, playing games, and using the camera.

These two latest videos are part of Apple's iPhone 6s "The only thing that's changed is everything" campaign, a tagline and concept Apple CEO Tim Cook first introduced when the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus debuted in September to highlight their revamped internals. Apple has released several advertisements using the wording, focusing on the iPhone's camera, Siri, and 3D Touch.

When referring to "The only thing that's changed is everything" claim it's important to recognize that Apples Big Picture decades old" Master Plan is to carry this ongoing concept which goes way back to their "Changing The World" advertising of decades ago. It's this consistency that has served Apple well.

"Hey Siri, goodnight."
— "Looking into your lights... Sorry John, I don't see anything connected."

I never have and issue. "Hey Siri, Good Morning", "ok, your humble abode is ready for good morning".

I've been on MacRumors for 11 years and enjoyed it for the most part as a community of Apple users but in the last few, this forum has turned into a bunch of whiners. Spoiled brats.

Siri couldn't figure out how to adjust my Nest's temperature, not very powerful. I expect things to "just work".

One of my annoyances about the new Hey Siri feature is that it tries to be too cute and flippant. I asked early in the morning what the time was as I didn't want to open my eyes and it replied "It's 5:30 am, too early to wake up I'll say".

Just tell me the time, forget about the colorful dialog to go with it, especially at 5:30 in the morning.

Another time when I first got it, I asked Siri something and of course the display goes on with the answer on screen along with the vocal response, but it was night and I tried to see if I could turn off the display quickly, so I said "Hey Siri, go to sleep". It replied "Siri never sleeps".

But when I asked the next morning for the time, it said "It's 7:28 am, you woke me up". When I asked "Hey Siri, I thought you never went to sleep", it didn't respond.

I also noticed Siri set up about 12 alarms for the same time because I kept asking it to "set" my 8:00 am alarm instead of "turn on" my 8:00 am alarm. Why would any supposedly powerful OS think I wanted 12 alarms set for the same exact time?

As you can see except for telling time I haven't really found any use for asking your iPad to do anything hands free especially when it must be plugged in to use it that way. So all that changed is nothing really except a mildly annoying feature not very well implemented, again.

Siri ad was okay. Least was short.

First ad way too long. Kept thinking what fool would remove a speedo and Rev counter , and warning lights of his bike and replace it with an iPhone that would require gps to tell you what speed your going. Is that even legal in the US? Not like it rains....

50% of the time this is the answer I get. (Except that whole "John" part.)

Just tried it on the Ipad Air 2 : I got Huh it's 2:56 pm... 3 times... I got a particularly interesting english accent too (being a native french speaker...).

Not sure how you're able to get a bad response from some a simple query.

It seems that Hey Siri only works half the time for me/us. Both my wife and i got 6S'es and we both set it up. Very often, when I say hey Siri, both phones activate - very strange! other times, I can say her Siri 10x and the phone will not respond at all - very disappointed because I like the feature for asking for time and weather without touching the phone in the morning.

I've got a heavy English accent and it works. What kind of english are you speaking!

If you have to make ad that says it's "powerful" then it's probably not that powerful. I'm a iPhone 6+ user and doubt that anything that i do with my phone would be noticably more faster in 6s+.
....

That's the problem with gap animations; quicker hardware doesn't always translate into quicker when viewed.

I keep seeing these commercials and think they are falsely advertising. They show a phone with no cord or anything attached to it and the person saying "Hey Siri" and it responding. In order for Hey Siri to work, the device needs to be plugged in, making the feature largely useless. How can they just blatantly lie like that?

The 6s & 6s Plus don't require the phone to be plugged in for "Hey Siri" to work.

They are saying "Hey Siri" in the advert but hey Siri doesn't work unless the phones are plugged in on charge, non of the phones are plugged in :/

Not if you got a 6s, try again buddy.

Why do the 6 and 6+ needs to be plugged in? 100% battery is not good enough or they don't have the ridiculous powerful internals?

It has to do with the 6 and 6+ not having a co-processor outside the main processor always listening for "hey siri". That co-processor takes a lot less power than the main one. That's why the 6s can do it but earlier ones could not.

This is why I don't think I can waste anymore time in this forum. Look at all of these posts. Absolutely worthless. Silly comments made for the sake of making silly comments. No thought. No discussion. Just childish meaningless nonsense.

I think it's ok that people are critical of Apple. Too many fan boys singing praise and not willing to speak up about their frustrations breeds stagnation. If people didn't complain, we still would have the dreaded one button mouse!

Apple is best when they are competitive and consumers are willing to walk if there isn't excellence from them. Microsoft lost a lot of customers and Nadine sure did turn things around.

And childish comments are ok, especially when it's about advertisement and corporate spin. Just like their spin about 4 inch phone being the perfect form factor... "common sense" as their ad said.. I say call everyone on their BS!

Good post.

I didn't really have a comment about the ads, but I guess they are okay.

I have recently had a some issues with a few of Apple's products and services lately. After posting on a few forums, like this one, I was called out for Apple bashing, or hating on Apple.

What is funny, is that a year ago, I was called an Apple fanboy for showing interest in the ATV4 and Apple's TV service.
Now, if I have an issue/problem with using an Apple product, I must be using it wrong, or only mine is broken.

These forums are so strange, if you like a product and are vocal about it, you get labeled a fanboy, and your comments are not taken seriously.

If you have an issue with a product or a complaint about something Apple is doing, you get labeled an Apple basher and your comments are not taken seriously.

I know, "welcome to the internet".
