Weird they paired the messaging with the a US network provider, since they have all been caught multiple times selling and exploiting user data:

Great ad! I had the same thought, though. I would have thought Apple might have restricted this ad from being associated with any cell carrier for the very reason you mention. It tends to give a positive message for T-Mobile regarding privacy, which is not earned. For the few who know what cell companies have done with data, it taints Apple's image a bit.

Maybe Apple should add a pop-up upon iPhone setup "Ask mobile carrier not to track" that sets a flag for the carrier. But then, would Apple be willing to pull their phone from carriers that track despite the user's designation not to track? They can control the App Store to some extent and use it to punish those who don't follow the user's request. I'm not sure they would exercise the more limited power they have over carriers.

The ad is very well done. Wish the person might have declined other requests before everyone disappeared.

Oh crap... Apple is "tracking" you. ;)

But is Apple selling your data to 3rd-parties?

That's the difference.

Of course Apple knows what their customers are doing. But they're not doing anything nefarious with your data, are they?

:)
If you really believe that I have some stuff for sale. Apple uses your data like everyone else. To make money.

They're not selling data. This would have to be declared in their earnings as they're a public traded company. They make $0 from selling data.

Where did I say selling data. I said using it like all the other tech companies do. They are making money off your data.

Does anyone know if ATT works on the Mac? I know safari blocks trackers but what about Mac apps?
Even if it were available, it wouldn't be effective. Mac apps are less constrained than iOS apps. It's trivial for an app to fingerprint a Mac, so they don't have to rely on the Apple-provided IDFA to generate a unique tracking ID.

They no longer run an advertising network for 3rd party advertisers since they shut down iAds. They do advertise within some of their own apps (e.g. Apple News and the app store), but they are not tracking you everywhere like Google, Facebook etc. do through their ubiquitous ad SDKs and web bugs.

Although some companies have decided to fight back by putting random ads you don't want to see. Opted out? Here is an ad for spot cream; or elderly stair aids, tickets to another team's events etc etc - all to shame you into opting back in.
Think more about just delivering ads so they can charge their clients.

Like with a majority of things in this world, when someone designs and builds something, along comes another person who finds a way to do things to that something that it was never intended to do. The internet was designed to allow people all over the world to communicate with one another, then along comes others who see's that they can build something that hides it's self within the internet that allows it's users to be tracked which as a result can make them a lot of money. Welcome to the world of ad companies.

I have no idea what you are talking about, and I'm not sure you do either. Here is some information on the subject easily gleaned:

"End-to-end encryption requires that you have two-factor authentication turned on for your Apple ID. Keeping your software up-to-date and using two-factor authentication are the most important things that you can do to maintain the security of your devices and data." https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202303

Makes good reading, give it a try!
Here - I’ll help “learn you up” kid:

There’s more to it than Apple is telling you. You’re welcome for the schooling.

The advert industry did fine when all it had was billboards and TV spots and if anything this made adverts of a higher quality too. A good print ad can be a work of art and a good tv ad as memorable as any tv show. Heck, a decent radio jingle gets stuck in your head for days.

Internet and app ads are terrible in execution and visibility. Video adverts do not work on print pages! Anything that breaks this up deserves all the credit it can.
You meaning gaudy flashing banner ads aren’t effective at anything but associating a product with annoyance?

As a user, I don't care about their intention, but the outcome. In fact, I assume that everything that Apple does is selfish, including their social positions. Maybe they are sincere, maybe not, but I don't know. If enforcing privacy is a business model that works for them and it benefits me at the same time, that's a win-win.
That’s the economic theory that there is no such thing as altruism. Altruism can be monetized or tokenized, and one can demonstrate that at minimum, the endorphins one might feel from “doing good” are the reward for the act.

Singers
"Why don't you mind your own business?"

Apple logo appears, and a locking animation turns into the leaf.

Damn, what an ad!

I can see why some people are dubious about Apple’s claims in regards to Privacy…

So I had a phone call with my Mum the other week (using the Phone app) and we were talking about a song she used to play loads back in the early ‘90s.

The next day, on Apple Music, said song appears on the ‘For You’ page.

Now, I know it’s probably purely coincidental however I can see why people think “Hmmm…” and query claims!
