Still can't keep an SSH session open while I go look up some stuff in Safari. Still keeps quitting my background voip app at random moments so I miss calls. All in the name of battery life.

Interestingly my Windows 2-in-1 runs those two and more without a hitch and with "all day" battery life, too.

Don't get me wrong, iOS is my favourite operating system, but we're 10 years in and it's time for Apple to start relaxing some things a bit. I don't even have my iPad's screen sleep after inactivity and eight hours later there's still plenty of battery left, I'm sure we can let apps run in the background a little longer. I'll pay for a bit more RAM to do it, too (though at Apple's prices that ought to be included).

Ah yes the true Mac Evangelist. Phones have airplane mode, PCs can easily achieve "effective airplane mode". The FAA recognizes the potential for someone to not engage APM, and risk passenger safety. Hence ALL ELECTRONIC devices need to be shut down. But, of course, Apple and its customers are different and would never make the mistake of running their devices without first engaging APM.
Tell me, do you shut down your phone when you're on a flight? Most people only put their laptops on standby too.

One can have a good conversation without resorting to calling names, unless you just don't have a solid argument to begin with.

Getting files from external storage is a reasonable expectation. Weird you don't think it isn't.
And that can be done with a Mac. Get a tool that works for you.
Weird that you think everyone must have the same usage scenario as yours.

These are pretty neat videos, and I love my iPad Pro and wish I could do more on it, but the hardware is being held back by iOS. Which ironically is the exact opposite of the problem with macOS on the underpowered Mac hardware.

Why is it OK to use an iPad with a keyboard but a Macbook with one absolutely positively must not have a touch screen? Can't tell you how many times people instinctively reach to pinch/zoom or move something on my Macbook screen. Wish Apple would concede and add touch-screen enabled Macs.

Irrelevant, you said an iPad has Airplane mode, I said a Mac has one too.
And let's go back to the comment I replied to, and it's about the video using the iPad in an airplane.
Context is usually useful in conversation, so maybe it's helpful to see the original thread.

Get a Mac instead?
I mean I can complain that the iPad cannot toast my bread.
I know you know the answer (well i hope you do), but here goes - Apple don´t advertise the iPad as a toaster, they advertise it as a computer. If they advertised it as a consumption device that would be fine, but they don´t. Also they are powerful devices that could easily replace laptops and desktops for those that want a small form factor. iOS is the limiting factor. A great iOS 13 could transform these devices.

I use my 27 inch Mac when possible, if not my iPad and if I am out and about and its urgent I will try and muddle through on my iPhone. I would love my iOS devices to do what my Mac can. Its fiddly, but useful in the right situations. To (mis) quote someone - "The best computer is the one you have with you".

The video with the iPad staying on while PCs on the plane get shut down is irresponsible. The issue is WiFi or LTE connections potentially interfering with plane electronics. Granted the risk for any device is small but the FAA has declared it so. So for Apple to approve an ad with such huge misinformation simply because they want to force-feed the "it's not a computer" line is well... irresponsible. This ad really needs to be pulled.

This is all fiction. No consumer device inside the airplane can interfere with the navigation systems. If that were true, how would any airplane ever land while flying over cities with millions of cell phones blasting into the air to nearby towers? If wireless signals in these bandwidths interfered with the airplane's ability to navigate, 100% of airplanes landing at LAX would crash.

Why do you even allow people touching your Macbook's screen? :D I know I don't.

Agree - I had a lady siting next to me on a flight recently with her children web browsing as we were coming into land, so I said "I think thats supposed to be in airplane mode now, for everyones safety". What goes through peoples heads?

And she should’ve replied to that WiFi and Bluetooth work in airplane mode by design because they’re both allowed on flights gate to gate and have been for years.

So, I need to buy a 'PC' in order to get data off from external storage onto an iPad??? Wow...

Reading from external storage is basic functionality. Yet iToy crap still can't do this.
No. You don't need an iPad. Use your laptop, and connect your external storage.
Again, use tools that work for you.

Nope, I don't see your point, even with context, again, it's irrelevant, fact is, you can use a mac without bluetooth/wifi.

iOS is a limiting factor if Apple only sells iOS devices. Apple sells Macs as well. Get the tools that work for you, instead of buying something and expecting it to be something else.
Many people are fine having only a smartphone and/or tablet as their "computers." Just because something doesn't fit your definition of a computer, doesn't mean it's not for others.

Its been proven that it is not the case. FAA is doing that as a precaution not for actual risk. Kinda like superstitious reasons. Most people don't really switch off their phones on the plane.

These videos are for students and Artsy folks that don’t do any real intense work in programs like excel or powerpoint. It’s clear that Microsoft doesnt consider the iPad or iPad pro tablets to be used as computers. Not supporting pivot tables for one is a good indicator that this product group isnt considered powerfull enough to do that kind of work. Even doing excel spreadsheet filtering of data is weak and searching through vast rows and columns of data are so slow that I almost returned my 2018 iPad Pro. Funny how Apple toughted that their new A12X Bionic is 90% faster than all other PCs. I’m not sure how GeekBench truly calculates processing speed, but in both iOS Excel and iOS Numbers to search for data makes this ipad pro look like a toy compared to my old Macbook Pro Mid 2010. Maybe both programs are written so badly that it make the ipad pro seem slow in comparison to a PC. I dont know, but I have asked repeatedly from Microsoft and Apple to update these two programs on iOS and I get zero response on this issue. So yes, iOS 12 is not at the caliber of a computer OS like MAC OS or Microsoft Windows. I’m hoping that iOS 13 will fix some of these issues. I dont want to have to buy another ipad pro 3 years from now to utilize the almighty power that is touted in this 2018 ipad pro. But I’m certain that Apple will drag their feet on iOS upgrades and force their loyal customers to continue to upgrade on false promises. Wonder how long we will have to wait for Adobe’s Photoshop software to finally make it to the consumer. 7 months since they touted their great new iOS software. Bet it won’t get released until another updated Apple iPad Pro gets released later this year. Funny how that works out for Tim Cook and the Apple team.

iOS is a limiting factor on iPads irrespective of the fact that they sell Macs, its mutually exclusive. Apple keep telling the general public that the iPad Pro its likely more powerful than their computer. From that people would assume it would do more.

But you are right, I won't be updating my iPad, I wouldn´t have a new iPhone if my partner hadn´t got it for me I would have stayed with my 6+ and 6s+. I have no interest in updating any iOS hardware. I will if iOS becomes more useful to me, else I will keep my eyes on the competition and jump ship if something that meets my needs arrives.

Apple gimps the hardware with iOS, because even with the talk of their courage to canabalise their own product lines, they don´t want to risk cannibalising Mac sales. For desktop users, that would probably not happen, maybe for laptops it would.

If there is a tiny risk, is it really worth it to check Facebook or some other pointless site? If she doesnt care about hers or the other passengers safety, what about her own kids? Selfish selfish.

This forum is such a joke. It seems that only people on macrumors forums know what Pro is. Oh wait, there are different types of pros. Different devices made for different people. I grew up when smartphones were just coming up. And I’m happy to say, I hate my old Mac. The iPad Pro is a million times better. I’m a student, I make music and do free lance video for social media and small businesses and photography, graphic design for various side businesses. Plus I write. I’m a pro, but I guess I’m not because I use an ipad. It’s light years ahead, needs a few things, but I will never jump back to a Mac. This forum is so suck up on real computers. Get a grip. Different products for different people. Computers will die out soon as AI, software and apps take the lead, only the very specialized jobs will have them. Embrace the future. And if you don’t want to that’s fine, but please stop acting that it’s not a pro device. Grow up. Thank you. Feel free to disagree with Apple but stop with the bs about not being pro, cause we have many definitions of what that means. Cheers

Apple should have a new tag line for the iPad Pro "iPad Pro fantastic for some things, crap for others. Check before you buy"
