iOS is a limiting factor on iPads irrespective of the fact that they sell Macs, its mutually exclusive. Apple keep telling the general public that the iPad Pro its likely more powerful than their computer. From that people would assume it would do more.

But you are right, I won't be updating my iPad, I wouldn´t have a new iPhone if my partner hadn´t got it for me I would have stayed with my 6+ and 6s+. I have no interest in updating any iOS hardware. I will if iOS becomes more useful to me, else I will keep my eyes on the competition and jump ship if something that meets my needs arrives.

Apple gimps the hardware with iOS, because even with the talk of their courage to canabalise their own product lines, they don´t want to risk cannibalising Mac sales. For desktop users, that would probably not happen, maybe for laptops it would.

If there is a tiny risk, is it really worth it to check Facebook or some other pointless site? If she doesnt care about hers or the other passengers safety, what about her own kids? Selfish selfish.
So you really think that an iPad will take down a heavily isolated plane? Why don't they ask people to put awatch etc. in airplane mode? There are scientific measured tests to show that the risk is pretty much nonexistant.
I understand your point though

Get a Mac instead?
I mean I can complain that the iPad cannot toast my bread.

But Apple says it’s a “computer”.

Joking aside I use cloud storage and have not used external storage in a year. Not missing it, however I do understand that bandwidth on home networks, internet and mobile providers are not on par for what 2020 is supposed to be.

I think the term pretty much is the point. My Uncle died in a plane crash, maybe that makes me a little more sensitive or sensible. Alot of my family decided never to fly after that.

Being able to use the iPad on a flight when PCs have to be shut down has nothing to do with one or both having airplane mode. The rules are that PCs must be shut down and stowed because of the size/weight in the event of a sudden change in speed of the aircraft they could become a heavy flying projectile. iPods, Phones, Kindles and Tablets were exempted because passengers wanted to be able to continue to read, etc until landing and the FAA or other agency agreed to it and they were deemed to be small enough to not present the same danger. Not really sure a 12.9" iPad Pro is any less of a safety risk than a small laptop, but that's the rule.

The same reason that most hand luggage, computer bags, etc. need to be stowed, but I think a small purse or pouch can be kept in ones hands.

So, I need to buy a 'PC' in order to transfer data from external storage onto an iPad??? Wow...

Reading from external storage is basic functionality. Yet iToy crap still can't do this.

If you only had an iPad and don’t have a PC/Mac then how did you get files onto your external hard drive in the first place? :D

These videos are for students and Artsy folks that don’t do any real intense work in programs like excel or powerpoint. It’s clear that Microsoft doesnt consider the iPad or iPad pro tablets to be used as computers. Not supporting pivot tables for one is a good indicator that this product group isnt considered powerfull enough to do that kind of work. Even doing excel spreadsheet filtering of data is weak and searching through vast rows and columns of data are so slow that I almost returned my 2018 iPad Pro. Funny how Apple toughted that their new A12X Bionic is 90% faster than all other PCs. I’m not sure how GeekBench truly calculates processing speed, but in both iOS Excel and iOS Numbers to search for data makes this ipad pro look like a toy compared to my old Macbook Pro Mid 2010. Maybe both programs are written so badly that it make the ipad pro seem slow in comparison to a PC. I dont know, but I have asked repeatedly from Microsoft and Apple to update these two programs on iOS and I get zero response on this issue. So yes, iOS 12 is not at the caliber of a computer OS like MAC OS or Microsoft Windows. I’m hoping that iOS 13 will fix some of these issues. I dont want to have to buy another ipad pro 3 years from now to utilize the almighty power that is touted in this 2018 ipad pro. But I’m certain that Apple will drag their feet on iOS upgrades and force their loyal customers to continue to upgrade on false promises. Wonder how long we will have to wait for Adobe’s Photoshop software to finally make it to the consumer. 7 months since they touted their great new iOS software. Bet it won’t get released until another updated Apple iPad Pro gets released later this year. Funny how that works out for Tim Cook and the Apple team.

1. Paragraphs
2. Microsoft make office and there is literally nothing stopping them making a fully featured version of excel on iPad if there was a demand for it. It has the horsepower to tun great applications, the developers just need to write them properly. Excel is an absolute dog of an application and can bog down the latest hardware with complex sheets.

Well...those video isn't bad...but Apple at least should promote iPad Pro as creative pen display / computer instead of laptop replacement. Still not practical for replacing proper, normal computer.

It should be geared mainly for digital artist as powerful drawing device who really used for making finished illustration (not just design / editing photos) . So it should compete with Wacom MSP/Cintiq, Surface line, etc.

The chances of portable electronics interfering with aircraft controls and air traffic control systems is pretty laughable; unless your phone explodes because of a wonky battery.

Anyway back to what it CAN"T DO!

The one feature that Apple should have made available at the very launch of the product line is being able to use it as an external display like a Cintiq tablet with a laptop or desktop. This is such a complete blunder that I wonder if anyone from Apple has actually ****ing used Photoshop.

Who said that data on that external storage was put there by me?

Someone else has prepared some data for me on external storage that I need to transfer over to iPad.

No PC around, oh, wait: I can't. This is not an uncommon scenario either.

iOS / iPad can very well support external storage like this, but Apple chose not to because they want people to buy more expensive iPads that have greater storage capacity, which means more $$$$.

If you only had an iPad and don’t have a PC/Mac then how did you get files onto your external hard drive in the first place? :D

Still too gimped with iOS 12.x. Hopefully iOS 13.x will add background multitasking, USB flash drive support, file manager, mouse support, VP9 codec for YouTube >1080p, ability to place any icons anywhere on home screen and other things that should be standard.

You are too addicted to the old-school computer-based method, not what Apple is promoting here -- a new way, a method requires less computer technology knowledge.

Now I will tell you what it cannot do:

- Replace a computer/Mac.
- Lower the volume without occupying a good portion of the screen.
- Transfer files wirelessly.
- Open several documents at the same time.
- Work on more than one spreadsheet at the same time.
- Connect freaking headphones.
- Run professional software for anything other than drawing.
- Run full on Matlab, X-code and many engineering applications a pro really uses to get work done.
- Browse webpages that rely on horizontal and vertical scrolling (there is a website I have to use daily that my iPad doesn’t support, so even for browsing it cannot replace my computer).
- Play all sorts of video and audio files natively.
- And many more.

Sounds like an iPad is not for you then. I haven’t missed any of the features you named.

Where is the video showing how i get my files off my external hard disk?

No need to

External storage is a burden itself. Being able to fully ditch external storage, while still accomplish your work, is optimal.

That whole 'what's a computer' thing was a mistake. People now compare it too much to the classic computer, and ofc ourse it fails at that.

I view the iPad more as sort of combination of a digital canvas with a internet machine with a mobile gaming device, instead of a laptop replacement.

I mean, laptops aren't questioned as iPad replacements, right? They aren't really good at being drawing/painting devices, photo camera's (for scanning documents), navigation devices (if you got a 4G iPad), they run out of battery pretty quick when you do some gaming or watching movies (and most have subpar speakers), they aren't terribly mobile (you can't just pop them out on the road), ... it's a different kind of device.

That said, there are some things that apple can (and should) fix easily with some software updates.

You should report the problem with detailed steps and sample spreadsheet, looks like a software problem they can easily fix if they see it in person.

where is the video that show how you can turn you iPad Pro into a boomerang

there is also another video that shows how easily you can bend your iPad Pro into a banana shape iPad Pro

the best of all is that is free

at least Tim didn't charge us for that

Getting decent access to files is something that Apple do poorly. You have to "send" a file to another App.
The files app is "beta" style attempt at doing file access.

One thing not factored into those tests is incredibly important. Heat. As the iPad heats up, it's going to thermal throttle back down to manage that heat. When any laptop heats up, and a desktop moreso, fans kick on to lower the heat to a manageable level -- and only if it reaches the same highs after the fans kick in will there be any throttling. So you've got a lot more overhead, and sustained high speeds.

sorry but I don't agree with this
the only reason why apple doesn't add a small sd card or a usb type c connector
for some one to use an adapter to plug a usb device or any kind of device is
because apple wants to sells devices with higher internal flash storage capacity

of course bigger flash capacity devices cost more that's why apple does it
to tie your hands and if you want bigger storage then simply buy a device with bigger storage capacity

apple doesn't want you to buy a cheaper phone with smaller storage capacity and then go to the local store and buy a small sd card

like that is better for the costumer but bad for apple

if apple allows that the they will loose a lot of money

this is the part that apple is missing or they simply don't care

the person doesn't just buy a sd card just because they don't want to buy a bigger storage device
the person buys the sd card because they also need to transfer data from one device to another

but like a said before all apple thinks is, use iCloud Drive connect to the internet, use air drop etc
but no external storage because that is not good for their sales

once again apple forcing his way on costumers, they don't care about their costumers, they only care about their profits

I understand if they come out with something like , we don't like how it looks
we don't want water to get in , in case some one drops their phone in water

in this case they can come out with some kind of adapter that you can connect to the lighting port
you know that is apple speciality, dongles and adapters but the ones that they need to make they don't make them

we all know why
they only do what is good for them not for their costumers

they remove the head phone jack because the old regulars head phones only cost like 10 dollars
so they remove the headphone jack in order to sell the air pods that cost around 20 times mores

mr cook the genius
