I disagree with any public parade designed to support an agenda and I believe that these parades are very intolerant towards views different then their own. This would also apply to a white pride parade, a catholic (or any other religion) parade, a straight pride parade, etc.

Get out and see one for yourself, these parades are anything BUT intolerant, they invite people in and accept each regardless of race, religion and creed, and they have a good time doing so.

The hardest thing for people to do is to see common ground with those they disagree with. We can easily dislike that which we don't agree with, its harder to sit in front of that person and just see their view, be it religion, gun control, some misguided hate group or what have you.

You don't move on as a society limiting your mind view of these things. You reach out, you try and understand, and hopefully can accept them for whatever belief they have, hopefully opening a person's mind. You can't let ignorance of anything take hold.

Be it a white pride rally, black pride, gay pride, republican pride, gun pride, democrat pride, independent pride, if you don't engage, you don't learn, you dont grow as a person. Period.

My advice is that if you work somewhere where you're not welcome or happy then leave. I would rather quit and go to another job if I worked some place where I was hated than try to run to the government to "make them let me stay".

So my advice is if you are in that situation just look for other jobs and when comes along take it, versus staying put for years and years in misery or trying to use the government to force others to accept you.

You can quote all the gibberish you want from a .gov website. But back here in reality, this sort of thing happens all the time in the USA. Just because the laws defined black people as "separate but equal" decades ago, doesn't mean that's how things played out in reality.

You can make snide remarks about him being Canadian, but it's actually sad that a Canadian is more aware of the reality of these issues than an American who thinks he knows the law.

Study law, and one thing you'll learn is that laws are complicated. It's not as simple as quoting a line of text from a govt site. It's much more complicated in reality, and rarely ever so cut and dry as you pretend it to be.

1. it is not gibberish.
2. there were no snide Canadian remarks.
3. Study law? haha, i have had my Juris Doctor degree for some time now. Sleepless nights of memorizing case law and passing the bar has allowed me to "quote a line of text from a govt site". I may not practice law because i have interests in other things, but I do know a thing or two about it.

Such an intolerant statement. :apple:

He's actually right. A Christian Pride parade isn't necessary, since Christianity is the dominant religion in this country (as an example of Christian power in the US, it's virtually impossible for a non-Christian person to become president - it would simply never happen; not in our lifetimes). Therefore, having a "pride parade" to celebrate and defend something that is already in a position of heightened power is sort of a dickish/aggressive move. That's why we don't have Straight Pride parades, or White Pride parades, or Men's Pride parades.

Most people seem to understand this intuitively, but some people just don't get it.

The government can't force anyone to accept LGBT people, but having non-discrimination policies enshrined in law can lend moral support and help change the culture. It's a slow process, but all of these steps are necessary.

Exactly. I understand the motive (that people shouldn't be prevented from taking jobs based on something determined by birth), but I'm afraid of how they're going to try to enforce this. You know how firing a black employee for any reason draws suspicion?

Kinda the opposite point I was trying to make in a way.

The laws need to be there, or otherwise there isn't any way to actually extract a fine or compensation when someone is actually discriminated against in this way. However, it isn't enough to stop the bigotry itself, and there also needs to be a societal pressure to stop the behavior as well.

Well, there are Easter parades just as celebration. It only turns political when a couple of jerks start carrying signs about how not enough Jewish people enlist in the army.

Yeah I stealthily edited my post to say "Christian Pride parade" since technically there are already plenty of Jesus parades. I don't think of them as political like gay pride parades though. A "Christian Pride Parade" would definitely be political.

It's never going to happen though :).

It really doesn't need to :) In fact, it would be pretty offensive.

If you ever come across a straight parade let me know as I'd proudly march in it. Can't let gays have all the fun. :D

You could have joined the St. Patricks parade in NYC which didn't allow gay groups to join.

On the other hand, the SF pride parade allows non-homosexual groups.

The law would be fine if there was somehow a guarantee that the law would only exist as a way to call a charge against obvious cases of discrimination. But, seeing how the similar laws against racial discrimination are abused, I'm not hopeful. It's at the point where schools and businesses must deliberately acquire enough students/employees of all "protected groups", or else they risk lawsuit or persecution. I would be PO'd if I had to hire someone purely based on his skin tone, but that's how it is.

Damn I should have, being Catholic and all. ;)

Ew no. Don't march in any kind of pride parade. I like being a man, I like my racial heritage (and many others), I don't care about my skin color, and I like Christianity, but having "pride" is a different and more ****ish thing. My heart sinks a little whenever I see people of my race throwing racial pride parades.

not that there is anything wrong with it (Seinfeld reference) ... but doesn't it seem like Apple spent way too much money on this?

bicycles (with banana republic satchels), flags, shirts, iTunes gift cards, posters, food, music, etc. ... couldn't this money have been spent maybe educating people on LGBT or donated to groups effected by "bullies" instead of a 1 day parade?

It's not about the money... it's about getting everyone at the company involved. They give millions of dollars to their employees yearly, so it makes sense to invest in them.. right?

Go ahead and start one. Usually it's the minorities that have the parades but I suppose anything can happen...

There you go, the Catholics Agenda and all. Can't let Catholics have all the fun.

And how many times have you complained about those? I would offer a guess but that could be perceived prejudiced so I'll say zero about that :) .

I'm not homophobic. I just don't need the gay agenda shoved in my face 24/7. :)

What would that agenda be? What are they accomplishing besides promoting equality and awareness? They fact that these exist peacefully helps kids/teens in some parts of the US who are struggling with their sexuality because of the bullying that still exists.

They were letting them in the parade as long as it was about being irish and not about being gay. But of course gays gotta make it about being gay...

The prides let anyone in... how are they designed to support an agenda? Is it wrong to support equality? Explain to me what this "agenda" is.

How ignorant of you to say that... you can't group people. Not everyone thats gay does that 24/7... in fact, a lot of people don't care about their sexuality, as it doesn't define them.
