If you ever come across a straight parade let me know as I'd proudly march in it. Can't let gays have all the fun. :D

Isn't there a bunch for Christmas, Thanksgiving and Boxing day parades?
There really isn't shortage to choose from.

What agenda? The right to be treated equally like yourself? You do realize the world revolves around a straight agenda? Everyday, every where, media, TV, advertisements, billboards, what we teach kids in school. Such a shame people are fighting for their rights and it's all up in your GEORGE FOREMAN. Until a gay couple can hold hands walking down the street, minding their own business, without 1000 stares, taunts, and homophobic comments from straight people, you're going to have to deal with the "gay agenda". Sorry people fighting for their rights is offending your straight sensibilities.

What right that straight people have that LGBT don't have?

Marriage: straight and LGBT are allowed to marry anyone they want, just not same sex marriage. Straight people aren't allowed to marry other straight people either. It's not that they will, but if they want to, they're NOT allowed by the law. So we're basically equally restricted by the law.

Abusing the law: both straight and LGBT are abusing the law equally. We all know that straight people are abusing the law. That's nothing new. Do we have any law abusing LGBT? Yes, we have. I'm sure that any informed LGBT is aware of issues like LGBT suing pastors and restaurant owners left and right just because they don't support LGBT. What happen to minding your own business and respecting other's opinion and leave them alone? If they don't support LGBT, then just go to restaurants that support LGBT. What happen to respecting religious views? Just go to another church that support it. Why sue people when they don't agree with your life style?

Equality: don't mistake equality with people opinion. Everyone will have their own opinion about everything. A lot of actions were made based on people's opinion. So, if you want everyone to have equal opinion, then you're fighting a losing battle. It won't happen. If you're fighting for equality in the eye of the law, you're already equally protected by the law just like any straight person.

In the end, both straight and LGBT are the same. All are human and nobody is innocent.

They were letting them in the parade as long as it was about being irish and not about being gay. But of course gays gotta make it about being gay...

So all other participating groups made it strictly about "being irish"?
What would the difference be between an Irish gay community taking part in the parade be compared to something like the "Ancient Order of Hibernians" that make it all about "catholic", "church" and other "fun" stuff? In either case it's all about "being Irish" and no further message, right?....

The law would be fine if there was somehow a guarantee that the law would only exist as a way to call a charge against obvious cases of discrimination. But, seeing how the similar laws against racial discrimination are abused, I'm not hopeful. It's at the point where schools and businesses must deliberately acquire enough students/employees of all "protected groups", or else they risk lawsuit or persecution. I would be PO'd if I had to hire someone purely based on his skin tone, but that's how it is.

Now we are mixing affirmative action into this murky soup. Affirmative action is meant to solve a different ball of wax.

I'd be curious to see some actual numbers of the alleged abuses. Even the anecdotal evidence isn't terribly compelling.

I doubt they were even irish. Irish dont have gays.

not that there is anything wrong with it (Seinfeld reference) ... but doesn't it seem like Apple spent way too much money on this?

bicycles (with banana republic satchels), flags, shirts, iTunes gift cards, posters, food, music, etc. ... couldn't this money have been spent maybe educating people on LGBT or donated to groups effected by "bullies" instead of a 1 day parade?

Thanks for the concern trolling.

Affirmative Action is meant to solve discrimination, according to Wikipedia. I was under the impression that it was the racial and gender quota imposed in schools and was about to say that I was not referring to it. But it's very relevant. "[…] Take affirmative action to ensure that applicants are employed, and that employees are treated during employment, without regard to their race, creed, color, or national origin." (later expanded to other areas) Surprisingly, California is among a very few states that have banned Affirmative Action in public schools.

I would like to see numbers of abuses too, but of course nobody can produce numbers until this is in the history books. You can still tell what the country's sentiment is when there are summer education classes that are free only for those of South or Central American, African, Pacific, Native American, or eastern Asian descent (not white, Indian, Middle Eastern, or other non-suing groups).

Takes all kinds to make a country. Races, Genders, Sexualities, Philosophies, Cults, etc. Even the most ignorant hateful curmudgeons have value, to serve as a constant reminder to the rest of us, of how not to be.

Thank you everyone.

Only... not. It's false equivalence (literally in this case). It's saying anyone can eat any fruit they want, so long as it is Apples, and denying that Oranges are valid fruit.

Except, there are laws that say you can't actually deny service to people for certain reasons if you are running a public business. In some places, that includes sexual orientation/etc, and not just race. We don't pass those laws for no reason what-so-ever.

We heard this same argument not that long ago when talking about segregation. It wasn't a good argument then, and it isn't any better now.

If they don't support colored people, then just go to restaurants that support colored people. What happen to respecting religious views? Just go to another church that support it. Why sue people when they don't agree with your skin color?

Fixed your post for you. We've already had this debate as a country, and the highest court of the land declared that "separate but equal is not equal". It's just taking a bit longer to apply it to sexuality and gender fully. And I noticed you used the choice of "life style". Gender and sexuality is not a lifestyle choice, it's who we are as people, born into it. Thankfully science backs this up quite clearly, and doesn't require belief to be true.

If you are a business open to the public, then, well, you need to be open to the public. Not parts of the public your religion tells you to disagree with. If you don't want to be open to the public, then don't open a public business.

My respect of religious views stops where their intrusion into other peoples lives begins.

In a broad stroke, yes. But it is also a specific tool to counter-act specific problems that continue to exist. One where programs to try to fix the disproportionate number of minorities below the poverty line won't do a lick of good if biases and bigotry keep them out of education and jobs in the first place. It's a tool with the ultimate aim of fixing the distribution curve of minorities across economic classes to match the distribution of the general population.

The LGBTQ community's issues may overlap quite a bit with that of racial minorities, but they aren't a complete overlap.

I disagree with any public parade designed to support an agenda and I believe that these parades are very intolerant towards views different then their own. This would also apply to a white pride parade, a catholic (or any other religion) parade, a straight pride parade, etc.

I attend Scottish Games several times a year. At every game the have a Scottish pride parade where all the clans parade by with their flags and tartans. Shame on us for being 'intolerant'.

But their laws do overlap almost exactly. The racial laws are supposed to prevent racial discrimination, but they turn into general protection for people of certain races more than protection against racial discrimination. The interesting new variable is that someone can hide his sexual orientation.

They should have brought back the old rainbow apple. Oh well, one can wish.

You just put your foot into a huge political hot spot inside Apple. When Steve came back to Apple, one of the first things he did was replace the classic six-colors with a single color.

Considering who you speak with, it was done to a) signify a change in the company with Steve back, b) many felt the six-color rainbow was out of style in the graphics art scene, c) reduce cost of packaging and production or d) make it easier for copy editors to run the logo in various media forms.

It would be cool to bring it back for special occasions and events to keep it going on for sake of trademark.
