Saying Jesus is a fictional character isn't bashing Christianity, it's just pointing something out about history.

None of the people who were alive in the time and place that Jesus supposedly lived, ever mentioned him. They just carried on writing about what was going on around them as if none of the miracles described in the Bible ever happened. This is despite them being totally obsessed with the Bible as it was then. Now I don't know about you, but if things started happening, such as the dead rising from their graves and walking around, I would probably consider that to be a notable occurrence.

You have to ask yourself what is more likely, the creator of the universe decided to appear on Earth and get himself tortured and killed to make a point... or some ancient scholars came up with a hero character to sell their ideas and oppose Roman rule, then added details to pad-out this story over the next few hundred years. Which after serious editing, resulted in the new testament story we know today.

You might find the fact that I've pointed this out annoying, but the rest of us have had to put up with watching children be brainwashed with this mythology for generations. I think it's only fair that we make the case for the purely 'natural' world, whenever a 'supernatural' one is shoved in our faces.

Then explain to me, Mr. Brainwashingourchildren, why do we exist? Why does matter exist? How can something, come from nothing? Surely someone had to have created this entire universe, as it couldn't come from a point of nothing.

It's funny, you say that we "brainwash" our children in mythological creatures, but yet atheists brainwash their children into believing that there is nothing out there that could have created this vast universe and something came from nothing.

Like I said, if you don't like Christianity, let it be. I'm not the one who shoves Chrostianity down peoples' throats, but I do teach people who want to accept it.

So please, realize that this forum has many Christians, including myself, who would rather not be criticized based on their religion by one person's opinion.

Funny that some people here are 'anti' this.

We assume they have bought products from one of the world's biggest companies, which is run by a gay and in their smartphones have CPUs invented by a British transexual.

So they love what LGBT people achieve, but still don't want to know LGBT people exist or want to register disapproval and disgust.

It's just a bit odd.

If someone wants to get rid of an employee for one reason that is illegal, they just make up another excuse or they put them in a near useless position with no chance of being promoted in hopes they quit. I've seen this occur multiple times and had it happen to me a few years ago when I wouldn't participate in my boss's Limbaughesque political rants. Most of the times it's not even worth going to court over as you would be better off spending that time looking for a better job and are unlikely to win anyways unless you have strong evidence.

At-Will employment. Get used to it. Meanwhile, I hope all your Matthewsesque diatribe isn't disturbing others around you either.

I think most people really just don't care. A great engineer is a great engineer. When people start saying a great LGBT/straight/white/black/etc engineer, you create special category of a smaller subset to praise an individual and that typically seems unnecessary (an exception may be a parade ;))

I wish I could live enough to see a world without this parades, just because there is no need to.
But I guess science and medicine are quite behind schedule for this and nobody is ready to give me another century. Or two.

Ironically, to be a devil's advocate … I wonder if Apple would take part in a parade for Jesus. And not just about making money off of the "Christmas" season.

What the hell does this even mean? Jesus?! Yes lets take part in a non existent parade for an imaginary fictional deity of which followers are not victimised in any way what so ever. Or lets stand up for repressed minorities who are actually alive today, hmmmm, I wonder which is a more noble cause.

----------

I disagree with any public parade designed to support an agenda and I believe that these parades are very intolerant towards views different then their own. This would also apply to a white pride parade, a catholic (or any other religion) parade, a straight pride parade, etc.

The problem with your theory there is your examples are all powerful controlling organisations. If you were part of a repressed victimised minority who doesn't share equal rights with others you may feel differently.

I don't believe science says the universe came from nothing, at any point. It fully explains the logical, realistic way that the universe began and those who cannot understand it choose to ignore it. This is usually where religion comes in. I believe people use religion as a lame way of trying to put simple answers to something they just don't understand/haven't taken the time to understand. The universe and everything in it is totally feasible and explainable by scientific laws. It certainly didn't "come from nowhere."

Religion gives small minded, easily influenced people simple answers to things they don't understand. I believe religion should be abolished because, if there was a God, He'd be a mass murderer and should be sentenced for crimes against humanity.

I won't be commenting any further on this thread as I feel it has already gotten off-topic.

If you think followers of Jesus are not "victimised in any way what so ever," you are completely wrong. Just one example:

Hmmm...and there I thought the vast majority of christians were against discrimination...wait, that was outside the US...silly me!
Joke aside, if I remember correctly, approx. 80% of christians worldwide do not think homosexuality is a sin and that homosexuals should be treated without discrimination...the rest most likely also stick to those phrases in the bible that state slavery is fine and women may be treated as inferiour to men...

But let me ask you a direct question: Where is that connection between civil rights for homosexuals (as in legal rights) and a religious believe? (You know the whole secular idea of a state not being entangeled with any religion...)
I fail to see in what way they are even remotely compareable...

The post modern world... so brave, so tolerant (as long as you agree with it and no one gets "hurt"), and so unsustainable in the future. I don't claim to know the future but I have read plenty of the past. These societal shifts are like pendulums. After you've lived through a couple you see it for what it is.

Try applying those questions to god and you are left with the same problem. The god idea doesn't answer anything, it just moves the problem back one step. For god to be able to think it must have a neural network of some kind, where the hell did that come from? Where did the ideas and concepts in its mind come from?

I never said something came from nothing, the first law of thermodynamics states the opposite, energy cannot be created or destroyed. It simply changes into different forms as it moves and interacts with itself in time and space.

Ancient humans looked at the universe and made the uninformed assumption that something 'like them' must have created it. But nature isn't like us, it doesn't think, it doesn't plan, it doesn't have any goals or desires, because it doesn't have a brain, and it doesn't have senses.

Natural systems have developed the way the have over unimaginably long periods of time because of the conditions that were present during the process. No 'decisions' had to be made, it was just a case of if something worked it continued to work and if it didn't, it didn't. When there was more than one possible outcome, well guess what, we see all of them in nature.

Atoms just fall into the most stable configurations. As there are more than one of these (the elements) even more stable configurations can form when they bond together into molecules, these in turn can bond to form complex structures such as self-replicating RNA and DNA. The driving force behind all of this is just an unbalanced source of energy (the Sun) trying to balance itself out, with the amazing unintended consequence being that on a larger scale it's doing the opposite - i.e. life.

The labelling of children is divisive and utlimately destructive.

Summary of this thread:

Let me lecture you about why my problem/issue is bigger and more significant than yours, and why you're wrong, stupid and prejudiced if you don't agree.

...and this thread turned out exactly as expected.

I rarely click on the comments section of a MacRumors article, but I knew this one would deliver and yeah, it did. It's amazing how any mention of homosexuality in a blog story ends up turning into a discussion about Jesus. What is with that dude and gays?

Do we really need this? Just make the damn iPhones and iPads and leave the social issues out. Any company who does this runs the risk of alienating customers. Not good business.

I'm disgusted.

There. I gave my opinion and there is no need to quote me saying that I don't need to buy Apple products anymore and that I'm so stupid or simple-minded, etc.

I'm
With you. Men are built for women and vice versa

On the contrary, this makes me much happier about buying Apple's products.

Homophobes are a dying breed, just like the people who supported slavery and denied women the vote before them.

Apple could start making iToys for gay people to show their support and encouragement towards homosexuality...

Why should whether you insert your penis in a females vagina or another males anus be of any issue to a computer manufacturing company?

Good PR I guess.

They know it, too, which is why they've become more vociferous over the years. Religious groups and the like see that they're losing the culture war and it scares them in the same way the antebellum south feared the destructive influence of the north on their way of life as anti-slavery advocates fought to keep slavery from spreading into new territories.

As opposed to a male's vagina?
