Saying Jesus is a fictional character isn't bashing Christianity, it's just pointing something out about history.
None of the people who were alive in the time and place that Jesus supposedly lived, ever mentioned him. They just carried on writing about what was going on around them as if none of the miracles described in the Bible ever happened. This is despite them being totally obsessed with the Bible as it was then. Now I don't know about you, but if things started happening, such as the dead rising from their graves and walking around, I would probably consider that to be a notable occurrence.
You have to ask yourself what is more likely, the creator of the universe decided to appear on Earth and get himself tortured and killed to make a point... or some ancient scholars came up with a hero character to sell their ideas and oppose Roman rule, then added details to pad-out this story over the next few hundred years. Which after serious editing, resulted in the new testament story we know today.
You might find the fact that I've pointed this out annoying, but the rest of us have had to put up with watching children be brainwashed with this mythology for generations. I think it's only fair that we make the case for the purely 'natural' world, whenever a 'supernatural' one is shoved in our faces.
Then explain to me, Mr. Brainwashingourchildren, why do we exist? Why does matter exist? How can something, come from nothing? Surely someone had to have created this entire universe, as it couldn't come from a point of nothing.
It's funny, you say that we "brainwash" our children in mythological creatures, but yet atheists brainwash their children into believing that there is nothing out there that could have created this vast universe and something came from nothing.
Like I said, if you don't like Christianity, let it be. I'm not the one who shoves Chrostianity down peoples' throats, but I do teach people who want to accept it.
So please, realize that this forum has many Christians, including myself, who would rather not be criticized based on their religion by one person's opinion.
