For years I begged for an iPhone with the form factor of an SE but with flagship specs and no bezels. Apple finally delivered with the 12 Mini. I bought the phone and love it to death. For me the value is there but for others less passionate about the form factor I think the phone might be too expensive to justify its existence. Apple will either have to reduce the price (including possibly trimming the specs to keep their margins), or discontinue the phone entirely. It'll be a sad day for me but I'm so pleased Apple even made the 12 Mini that I'll accept that fate with gratitude nonetheless.
They sold millions of minis. My guess is SE owners don’t upgrade as often. I wasn’t expecting Apple to sell as many as the iPhone 12 Pro.

Not sure why everyone is surprised. The small phone fanatics are a small but vocal minority. It’s not the price that’s making it unpopular. Most people don’t want a tiny phone.

I love my 12 mini!
Easily the best iphone since 5!
Smaller than se2 with much bigger screen and all latest features, for a price less than standard 12!
What else could you want?

Yea, if you’re happy with the size it’s a very good phone. I think a mini Pro would be a cool device but there’s probably even less of a market for something like that

After owning the 12 pro max and returning and keeping my 11 pro max i'm heavily considering a trade in deal for a 12 mini if one should arise that does not lock you in for 24 months. i have two lines on my account so i may just do it if tmobile has something going on and upgrade to the 13 with the other one last this year.

I love that apple was able to fit so much in the size of the 12 mini. That is more impressive than any of the other phones in my opinion.

Or maybe, just maybe, people don't want a phone that's smaller than an iPhone 6 on which you can't watch videos or type. Just maybe
why in the world would you watch videos on a phone?! I have a 65"OLED with 4K Apple TV for that. And a MacBook Pro with 27" Thunderbolt display. And a 12" iPad for some situations. At the high end of the consumer market, we have every device we want or need for every possible application. Hence, I want a phone to be a phone and fit in my pocket. The new Mini is still too big (should be 1st gen SE-sized), but it's better than the comically huge "phones" that some people have to live with since they may have no other way to consume video.

Within 2 weeks of owning my iPhone 12 mini... 5 of my friends purchased the mini.
They didn't know the mini existed. After hands on with mine they were hooked.
...I think my Grandson is next.

I have the 12 Pro also.... I love the mini the most... just feel right!

I hope they continue making the mini size in the near future because that’s the size I love the most for a smartphone.

iPhone 12's and Pro's are selling great because of the Mini :D Mini is like an upsell tactic from Apple, 90% will think, if i am paying 700$ for this tiny phone, why not to add extra and buy 12. Mini's sales were predetermined to not sell well, even naming and iPhone 12 video promo where Mini was held by some giant with big hands looks so tiny, and everyone was like it's so tiny and unusable. It is both used as a upsell and plus it will tap into the small phone lovers which will be around 10% of total sales, and they also have raised iPhone 12 price by 130$ bucks.

I too was not in the upgrade cycle to buy new last launch and won't be for some years. But this has me worried. The 11 Pro is too large and they already went LARGER on all but the mini. Real shame if it gets scrapped.

Probably the price is a bit too steep. Make it $549 and it’ll sell like hotcakes.
Haha. More excuses from the mini shall one day rule the Earth crowd! You guys are a hardy lot, but not overly cognizant of what's going on in the world.

It will never sell much more than what it is selling. Sure, lowering the price will do that, but so will lowering the price of any iPhone! A select group of people got the phone of their dreams and still don't seem content.

It's a great phone for the select group of people who want a phone that size, but the vast majority of people don't want a phone that small.

Presumably it'll get a $100 price cut later in the year (when the 12s or 13 comes out) and another one in ~two years (when the 13 or 14 comes out) as most iPhones have since the beginning?

Mini was reportedly not selling as well as Apple has hoped. Apple probably also realized that there is still a big premium high-end market for iPhone Pro, despite the economic downturn.

I guess it wasn't all doom and gloom today. There's some good news after all. Maybe now we can move on to phones made for people with adult sized hands who don't wear their sisters skinny jean
lol
Once people will be able to SEE and HOLD a 12 Mini for real, you'll see them falling in love with it and the sales going up. Right now most Apple Stores are closed around the world, many electronic stores only have the bigger models on display, so all (most) people can see for now are pictures on the Internet.
That is true, i actually waited with the purchase until i could held it in my hands in store. It took me exactly 5 seconds to decide after that

I just wonder - how many people who wanted a smaller iPhone had that itch scratched by the iPhone SE earlier last year and so didn’t need the mini later in the year?

Not quite, mini’s screen is actually larger (taller, as there are no top/bottom bezels) and just slightly narrower than that of 6-8.

People also forget that there is no phone in the Android world like the Iphone 12 mini (and Iphone SE) i.e. Compact phones. With Apple now selling the 12 mini and SE, they effectively completely own the small phone market. It may be a niche market, but those sales will all go to Apple.
