Consumers who want to buy an iPhone will browse to the iPhone page to check out their options. The iPhone isn't new and people don't click the first button they see before signing up for a 24+ month contract.
No they won't. They will buy the one the press recommends, their store rep suggests, the most expensive one, or the highlighted promotion. That's how phones like the LG Chocolate and Voyager had huge sales numbers.

with some wanting (still wanting) a mini Pro and how they’re willing to pay for it (which is a crock).
...
The dirty secret was that most people simply wanted a cheaper FaceID-based iPhone and were willing to sacrifice screen size to get it.
Perhaps there is a further minority of people who wanted this "cheap" phone, but that's what the SE is and those people should accept it for what it is. Asking Apple to sell the equivalent of an $800 phone for hundreds less because the screen is smaller makes no sense.

And others who want a reasonably-sized flagship is hardly a crock. A mini version of the Pro is exactly what I wanted, and I am and have been willing to pay for it. I've demonstrated as much, as my last phone was $1249 before AppleCare and taxes. The mini was cheap IMO, at ~$800, and I would've gladly paid another $200-400 to get a stainless steel-framed version with the telephoto lens.

And on the topic of Face ID, this is the one area that still sucks. Face ID is still an awful solution in search of a problem exacerbated by the pandemic. And the one thing that will get me to trade the 12 mini right back in this year is if a 13 mini comes out with Touch ID, as some rumors have suggested might be (finally!) coming.

Wonder how some Mini owners will react now that this will seem like a repudiation of their taste. They will also not get societal affirmation of their choice. Will they return/ replace their devices for a Pro?

Are you serious? Who cares what society thinks about my anything. Lmao

I feel you with the mini pro, and while I normally go 3 years between upgrades at half the price of what I normally spend I can justify upgrading the mini in a year or two if they come out with what I really wanted.

I don't think the price of the Mini is unfair. But it puts the Mini in a position where the main group of people that are going to buy it are the ones that want the smallest package with the most power, regardless of cost. That's a niche group for sure.

I think the /s flag suggests they were making fun of the people who hate on the mini. Emotions fly here because it's a forum for enthusiasts. Head over to r/simracing and declare thrustmaster makes the best hardware and you will get equally emotional responses.

Once people will be able to SEE and HOLD a 12 Mini for real, you'll see them falling in love with it and the sales going up. Right now most Apple Stores are closed around the world, many electronic stores only have the bigger models on display, so all (most) people can see for now are pictures on the Internet.

But most Apple Stores in the world are open right now.

In France they're all closed. They only have a small counter for pick-up of orders made on their online store. I know that they are also closed in many other European countries. I don't know about the situation in Asia.

The demand for a small phone was just a niche, a small but vocal niche. It's clear to everyone now and clear to Apple. I am glad that they did finally make one though so that this could be proven and we don't have to hear the clamor online for a small phone anymore.

Sadly any of my friends with a 12/12pro hold my mini and get super jealous at the weight/niche size. I think if more people got a hands-on they'd fall in love. Love Love mine...
Same with mine. They dont even know mini existed, but are really surprised how well it fits in hand and how small it is.

And for me persoally, the price is NOT too high. It has the same cameras as regular iPhone 12 even picutres and videos are same, same faceID and a little slower charging but due to smaller battery you dont even notice it. I dont miss Lidar and telephoto camera.

I didn't realize it was like that in France. Was just looking at the tracker indicating 336/509 Apple Stores open.

Folks still paid this and more for their tiny 4.7” screens in pre-Plus/X times, not many complained. 😋

It peaked with iPhone 8 at $699 in 2017 and we know how sales went with that model. The XR/11 has been used by so many mainstream users, it's hard to accept 5.4".

Mini was not much of a success huh?
I think it may be a marketing problem. The "mini" is almost as big as the iPhone X. And much lighter. I'm loving my Mini & when I pick up an iPhone 11 it feels like a bloated brick. If it were called "iPhone" instead of "mini" and promoted as such I think it might well have been the best seller.
