Same with mine. They dont even know mini existed, but are really surprised how well it fits in hand and how small it is.

And for me persoally, the price is NOT too high. It has the same cameras as regular iPhone 12 even picutres and videos are same, same faceID and a little slower charging but due to smaller battery you dont even notice it. I dont miss Lidar and telephoto camera.
Exactly. In a store, things always seem smaller, and most people buying online wouldn't consider a "mini". I go to Costco and can't imagine why anyone would buy a 55 (or even 65") TV because it's tiny & the 77's are clearly so much better! The iPhone is the 55" TV of phones. I continue to think it's just the right size for most people!!

It peaked with iPhone 8 at $699 in 2017 and we know how sales went with that model. The XR/11 has been used by so many mainstream users, it's hard to accept 5.4".

IMO, iPhone 8 did not do as well because just when it came out iPhone 7 got a price drop and there were not so many changes between 7 & 8 otherwise.

FWIW, I gladly and willingly switched from iPhone 11 to 12 mini and am very happy with it. Mini’s ergonomics and weight make it perfect on the move. 👍

I doubt it, as SE has been there for a while and mini is in a different class altogether.
SE time on the market is irrelevant. What matters is what is available to you when you want or need a new phone.

I personally know 3 people that picked an SE over the Mini due to price. That’s just a small sample size. I can assure you the SE is impacting the lack of the Mini’s sales.

SE 2 is currently the cheapest iPhone Apple sells, agreed. However, mini also offers much more: better & bigger screen, better cameras, better battery, 5G, all of it in a smaller and lighter package. I am not saying mini offers the ultimate price/features balance, yet we can agree on its technical superiority over SE 2, which might be well worth an extra 300$ for some people. I guess.

Just a nicer spin, especially for stock market, that the iPhone 12 Mini isn't successfully and they're cutting back on production.

It costs too much for what you get compared to previous year models at a discount and the SE. that’s why.
So for a phone that is the same as the 12 bar the physical size and, due to the laws of physics, smaller battery, what should it cost?
Because for £100 over the 11 I’d say the OLED screen, newer processor, better camera is worth it.

I don't see how that's the case. There's no other iPhone for sale the size of the 12 mini.

Looking at the LCD display, non-5G, Intel modem, MagSafe-less iPhone 11 for $600, or an OLED display iPhone 12 mini with all those aforementioned features for $100 more makes the 12 mini look like a no-brainer. I'd pay $100 more for the mini's size alone, let alone all of those other improvements. I can see the market for a bottom-of-the-barrel price iPhone SE being a separate market, but I can't imagine anyone looking at previous year's models and choosing any of those to save $100.

Sure. For some. But the general consumer looking for a small iPhone is going to pick the one that costs almost half the price instead in most instances.

Its because we didn't get a 12 Pro mini

say it with me everyone...

13 Pro mini
13 Pro mini
13 Pro mini

Say it, repeat it, believe it.

Lets make it a reality!
The market for a 12 Pro Mini is even smaller than the market for the current 12 Mini. That's not the issue whatsoever.

What this proves is iPhone 12 Pro Max and Mini are really niche products. The sweet spot is really the 12 and 12 Pro.

Not quite, the 12 Pro and Pro Max are doing quite well. It's the mini that's the worst sales performer.

Wonder how some Mini owners will react now that this will seem like a repudiation of their taste. They will also not get societal affirmation of their choice. Will they return/ replace their devices for a Pro?

I wanted mini for its size and I got it, its great, really comfy to hold, use, carry in my pockets, love it! Since Im not a power user(and with screen that small, why would you?), battery life is good enough for my usage patterns, more than, I get 2-3 days and could squeeze out 4 days if situation would call for it. Always using it with power saver mode tho, since I dont need everything synced to cloud and updating 24/7.

If they could squeeze all the Pro Max camera tech into Pro and, perhaps, somehow get even better battery life and, perhaps, also squeeze in a bit bigger battery, then I will probably upgrade to iPhone 13 Pro, tho its bordering on the "almost too big" for me, iOS handling should improve with future software updates, however the size when carried in pants pockets is already bit big, and Im fairly tall with hands to match. My former Galaxy S8 already was too big in that regard.

If they dont do more than "just" camera upgrade on Pro, I might as well just get the behemoth Pro Max and enjoy the big screen, bigger battery with great battery life and just treat it not as a phone but as a smallish iPad'esque device that I can carry around with me everywhere, IF they make that ugly notch thinner from top to bottom.
Funny that I find it uglyish on Pro Max, while perfectly fine on smaller screened Mini and 6.1 :).

Mini was not much of a success huh?

No one outside of Apple knows. The "analysis" was based on "one month sales" but the report was released only 3 weeks after the Mini was released, so it sure seems it shorted the Mini at least a week of sales.

This emphasizes the poor sales of the iPhone 12 mini. It was made available 3 weeks after iPhone 12 Pro, yet the 12 Pro remains backordered even to this day in a number of configurations.

I was honestly going to hold out for the mini but I’m so glad I didn’t. The 12 is the perfect size for me and I love Apple went back to the flat sides. It looks and feels so much more premium than any of the 6-11 models ever did. I never really liked my XS much but from the second I held my 12 for the first time I instantly liked it better.

I guess it wasn't all doom and gloom today. There's some good news after all. Maybe now we can move on to phones made for people with adult sized hands who don't wear their sisters skinny jeans.
