Just got an update on my #ShanghaiGang2 order and it says it has cleared customs at 10:35 PM, and the delivery date has now changed to 12/7/20.
Interesting. I also got a "released by the customs agency" update at 10:38. Does that mean our packages didn't actually leave Shanghai? Or maybe this is a "virtual paperwork" Scan? Is this China exit customs or US import customs?
I had an update on my original ship date on 11/20 that "My package was at the clearing agency awaiting final release," and I assumed that was Chinese customs.

My MacBook is part of the #ShanghaiGang. I just got the "released by the customs agency" scan timestamped at 10:26PM on 12/1. The departure scan "before" it has a time tag of 7:05AM on 12/2. So I wonder if this "released by the customs agency" scan is just paperwork catchup. I guess we will find out in 2 hours, 34 minutes!
Same here - MBA cleared customs at 10:35pm and the delivery date is 12/7/20
That update was in an interesting time zone, not Shanghai apparently if it's just half hour ago.
If it was in Shanghai Time zone, then it's before the departure scan.

my ups status shows that it’s “in transit” and “clearance completed” with a scheduled delivery date of 12/03 by end of day. No exception or anything.

Interesting, I have 12/07, but looks like we are on the same flight.
Under your order it either says “Express Delivery” or “Standard Delivery”.
If it says Express it’ll ship from a local warehouse. But it has to get there first.
My 11/11 ordered MBP 16GB/1TB has a Nov 27 - Dec 4 delivery date and is still processing but I was told it would come from a local warehouse and it does say “Express Delivery” on it.
If I go to order the same thing today it says “Standard Delivery”.
So I think if you’re in this state you won’t be charged until it ships from the local warehouse.
If it was ~45 minutes ago on 12/1 realtime, it would be North American EST. Makes you think it could be import customs, or just that updates without an assigned location are defaulted to EST where UPS' Louisville hub is.
I feel your pain, ordered the same config as you, but a day later, and my date is 1st-8th. The only glimmer of hope I've seen in the last 12 hours is:
Processing: "We have everything necessary to complete your order. We’ll update your delivery date when your order is preparing to ship."
to
Processing: "As soon as the item is ready, we’ll send you an update."

Agreed. I think it is likely EST. Unlike other scans/entries it has no location listed. However there is still the question of whether it refers to clearing Chinese customs or possibly clearing US customs before leaving China. Is that ever done? I know when I have flown out of Canada on my way back home to the US (eg from Vancouver or Calgary), I cleared US customs before boarding the plane in Canada. However that aside I think the key points at the moment are 1) rescheduled delivery date is no longer “Information Unavailable” (in my case it is Dec 7, in others Dec 3; 2) record is no longer marked with an exception exclamation mark; and 3) delivery date is no longer labeled as tentative.
That is very possible. I sent the tracking log to my email, it looks like this:

Below is part of the tracking log when I bought a Lenovo x1e back in 2018 (shipped from Kunshan, close to Shanghai). It had the same message. This update seemed to have happened in Louisville, KY. I think we probably have cleared the US customs.

It’s common for them to start working on customs related stuff a bit before it lands. As this is a bulk shipment from a reputable company, it is pretty streamlined.
