All of you astute business folks should know it does cost more to build and manage the supply chain of custom machines. So really you are just whining

If this was the reason then all product prices would have been increased and it would not have been done under the radar.
Apple usually keeps prices unchanged until a product change.

I am 100% sure, Apple will not drop the prices, once the exchange rates for foreign currencies change in the other direction
Apple regularly updates prices both up and down when products change. And right now Apple gets a lot less in dollars from any buyer in the UK.

BREAKING: Sometimes companies need to raise prices.

The good news is people have choices. Don't like the increase? Reward another company with your currency and purchase their products instead.

black and white thinking, that’s what we need more in this world. Gratulation!

Add to that the fact that Apple charges the same in Pounds as it does USD and you've got some pretty significant price gouging going on in the UK.

The new MacBook Air costs USD $999 AND GBP £999 ($1152 USD).

It's been happening for years and it's pretty disgusting.

Even as a Brit, I'm not too surprised about this. GBP to USD has dropped at least 10% since the introduction of the 16". Probably not helped by COVID and USD being a relative safe haven.

After 20% VAT, we're actually paying (slightly) less than the USA for base models at the moment (although it really doesn't feel like it).

It needs to go back to 1985 for a similar exchange rate.... at the rate things are going I would not be surprised if Euro and GBP are pretty much normalised against USD in 1:1.

Bla bla bla 20% VAT bla bla bla

And you ignore VAT?

Have you seen pictures of mass congregations of Brits in areas like Snowdonia this weekend? How intelligent do you think the average Brit is?

It's because Apple is taking a hit to their bottom line and wants to still maintain their profit ratio on their products. The economy slowing down because of COVID-19 will have this effect.

The loyal apple fans don't have a choice. They are locked in.

Exactly - if we are locked into an ecosystem (iPhone, iMac, etc.) where everything is integrated through iCloud and use Apple's pro creative programs (Logic Pro X, Final Cut Pro), we have the choice to continue to pay the Apple tax or learn an entirely new ecosystem -- Apple has us exactly where they want us

There's a current shortage of laptops, as a massive glut of workers are now working from home. That's probably the biggest driver in price hikes.

Can you imagine if there was a article every time Walmart or your local grocery store raised prices on items. We’d be having this article every week. It’s called inflation. Every year people get a raise in their salary or at least most do but it’s not acceptable for a company to raise prices of the products because they're somehow evil 🤦‍♂️... Maybe the next time your boss offers you a raise you should tell them no it’s unethical that you get more money for the same amount of work 😂😂😂😂

Lol. Really Apple? A Trillion dollars in the coffers ain’t enough? In this time of economic strife beyond anything we’ve seen in our lifetimes...and you’re gonna RAISE prices? 🤦‍♂️

You’re kidding right?

Or just unaware there’s 20% VAT included in the price?

btw, in the UK they’re currently enjoying a $41 discount over what we pay in the States.
