I don't necessarily disagree but Samsung seems to do ok with even more different phone models (Galaxy Z Fold4, Galaxy Z Flip4, Galaxy S22 Ultra, Galaxy S22+, Galaxy S22, Galaxy A23, Galaxy A53, etc.) than Apple.

I think giving customers choices is good, as long as they are the "right" choices.
Their naming makes sense though. Also, the more expensive model is strictly better than the cheaper model. The same can't be said for the iPad lineup. It's a very confusing distribution of features.

Negative towards those that want cheaper phones?!? Please take the time to go through my posts in the iPhone 14/14 Plus release thread and other threads where I defend the those wanting a cheaper model vs Pro.

You have no clue what you’re talking about.

You said “the already declining 20%”. So it won’t be 20% for too long, will it? If people aren’t buying them at a $100-$200 savings, and Apple is most likely not gonna backtrack on prices, why produce them?

The simple solution is to revert back to the sweet spot price of £700-£800 that was successful for the iPhone 11,12 and 13. Nobody is expecting record sales this year as at least a quarter of Apples global market is in economic decline. However, Apple chose not to absorb inflationary increases and now less people are buying the newer models. Maybe the iPhone 13 has been more successful this year than any of us realise, or maybe people just aren’t upgrading in the numbers they have been.

Its Apple. If they'd release an iPhone 15 Super Ultra Pro Quantum and an iPhone 15 +, people will always go for the higher/better option. Which is seemingly the only reason they released the 14+ to make the 14 pro max look even better.
It's true Apple anticipated that the 'ho-hum' 14+ would drive up Pro Max sales...but obviously Apple grossly misread the market and not having the Plus ready at the same time also hurt them.

I'm sorry to say that a lot of Apple's moves (product features, model variety, pricing, etc.) make it seem like they either don't know or don't care what their consumers really want.

Watching Apple (hopefully) fail with iPhone and iPad lineups makes me happy. This might just focus their minds and clean up the messy lineups.
Before they can do that, Apple has to have an executive that understands the need. A supply chain guru, does not.

I'm glad this is happening. They shouldn't get away with that lazy and greedy approach. Especially yesterday's iPad announcements were a slap in the face for every customer. It became crystal clear that they aren't making the best possible products for consumers anymore but rather products for the sole purpose of upselling and profit maximization.

Agreed, that iPad update with the usb-c to lightning pencil adapter was just offensive.

$899 with a carrier or $929 unlocked from Apple. Smart people would rather buy a 14PM at $1099 or a discounted 13PM. Its missing too many features to justify playing 1k after tax.

I must say this is hilarious. I am no great mini fan (think the ideal size is 6.1) but it was nauseating how some users on here were fawning over this plus and putting down anyone who said anything remotely positive the mini. So it’s pretty funny that their beloved surfboard is selling just as badly

Why not offer a plus and a mini, or just get rid of both

It’s not the product that’s lacking demand due to what it offers in regards to specification, it’s the £949 price tag. The target market for the standard iPhones simply don’t want to pay close to £1k for a phone and especially during an economic downturn. It has nothing to do with a phone using last years chip or being too big and everything to do with a price sensitive market.
I absolutely agree with you.

The fact they are meeting or exceeding targeted demand between 85-90 million unit sales this year should tell you they know their user base. Suppliers who earlier overestimated targets are continuing to be leveraged by hedge funds shorting the stock at record levels. As their positions come in expect even more erroneous articles to be published trying to cover their losses.

Apple has moved to cut back iPhone 14 Plus orders with supply chain partners after unexpectedly sluggish sales less than two weeks after the model launched, reports DigiTimes.

According to the report, several supply chain makers and channel operators have confirmed that they received notification from Apple to cut iPhone 14 Plus production by around 40 percent. Apple is believed to be shifting production away from the non-Pro models to make more ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ and ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ Max devices, as suggested by increased component shipments.

Despite better iPhone 14 Plus sales in China compared to last year's iPhone 13 mini, shipments in other markets have been flat, which has caused Apple to adjust shipment ratios for the different iPhone 14 models. As a result, DigiTimes' sources indicated that total shipments of the iPhone 14 Plus will likely be revised downward to around 10 million units for 2022.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently said that Apple's product segmentation strategy for standard models has failed this year, following worse iPhone 14 Plus pre-order results than the third-generation iPhone SE and the ‌iPhone 13‌ mini. Apple is believed to have shelved plans to increase production of both the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus in response.

Despite the drop in orders, related shipment ratio adjustments will mean that total iPhone 14 series shipments in 2022 will likely maintain at 85-90 million units, according to today's report.

Maybe if they were less greedy (regarding the ******** pricing).

I was specifically referring to the phones and Samsung has more models than Apple and seems to do ok. However, Samsung also has several tablet models. Still available new offerings include Galaxy Tab A7 Lite, Galaxy Tab A7, Galaxy Tab A8, Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022), Galaxy Tab S7 FE, Galaxy Tab S7, Galaxy Tab S7+, Galaxy Tab S8, Galaxy Tab S8+, and Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra.

Again, several models and I don't feel their naming necessarily makes any more or less sense than Apple's.

Selling up to two year old models as new has been Apple's norm for a while. A year ago, in addition to the newly release 13 lineup, Apple was still selling new 12, 12 mini and 11 models. Two years ago, in addition to the newly released 12 lineup, they were still selling new 11 and XR models.
yeah they used to sell more than that back in the day too

The 14 Plus will be a great seller for the millions (billions?) of people who don't:
1) frequent this site and sites like it
2) always buy on launch day
3) feel like they need to have the highest-end model

The launch day crowd always gets the Pro, and often the larger-sized Pro.

Mark my words, iPhone 14 Plus sales will rip here in about 3 months.

Also used to be that you could buy a car in any color as long as it was black. And now buying a car is one of the worst consumer experiences on the face of planet, imo.
True. I loved waiting for a new iPhone keynote when they would reveal the latest one and you're good! The best smartphone Apple could make for that year was being presented and available for you, the consumer. I think adding a new device every year is insane. It's becoming so incremental that if they waited 2-3 years per update the majority of iPhone users would still feel WOWed every time a new one would be released.

That may be but these assessments presumably take all of that into account and are looking at where Plus sales were expected to be at this early stage i.e., they may have expected Pro/Pro Max sales to be higher early on and Plus sales to be lower (for reasons you mentioned) but Plus sales are even lower than they expected.

Even though Plus sales may have been forecast to get stronger in the coming months, this early weakness could be a sign that those stronger sales won't be as strong as expected. It's not that they won't go up, just maybe not as much as had been predicted. This is a reason why, assuming the report is true, Apple us cutting 14 Plus production.
