I agree with you more than I believe what the rep told me. It's just crazy that they are so clueless about it. I wasn't even trying to find out when it was going to be delivered. All I wanted to know is whether UPS delivers to my house on Saturday. The guy kept insisting that Saturday delivery is out of the question and that it would be there Thursday. So I asked him if can I have Saturday delivery on future packages, regardless of this current shipment, and he said I could.

Based on your edit, that seems to make the most sense. Thanks.

It should be easy enough go in UPS' website and just do a shipping quote from the same place in China to your zip. It will tell you right there if Saturday delivery is available. In fact, you probably only need to to a transit time query from anywhere to your zip and see if you get a Saturday delivery date in the results. If you can normally get deliveries on Sat., then you should get it on sat.

What everybody needs to keep in mind is: these are coming from China in huge consolidated shipments to the distribution centers in the US. Once they get there they are broken down and treated like individual domestic shipments. This is not something that happens that often where normal end-users get one package out of a huge consolidation. And especially not where there is a hold put on the packages first. That's why most of the UPS reps you speak to will get you inaccurate info. Not because they are lying, they just don't have experience with something like this.

Apple/UPS Have different parts of the story.

So my iPad is in the Exception state, LOUISVILLE, KY, US 03/30/2010 4:26 P.M. BROKERAGE RELEASED SHIPMENT. SHIPMENT IS SUBMITTED TO CLEARING AGENCY FOR FURTHER CLEARANCE

According to Apple, it is in Exception because UPS was going to deliver the iPads early and Apple told them they couldn't.

According to UPS, it is in Exception because they were waiting for Customs documents, and even though Saturday shipping was available in my area, with the shipping product Apple used, I should expect my iPad on Tuesday the 6th IF they get the Customs documents today.

So now I am really freaking confused.

I wouldn't worry too much. This is the same kind of thing they were telling people with the 3GS and we all got them on time. Like I said previously, this is a type of shipment scenario that most of these UPS reps have never seen before.

I am sooo confused with Apple. This all could have been avoided if they had used FedEx.

four

my four have arrived in ANCHORAGE, AK. Only about 1000 miles from here (okay, maybe more)

At least they are USA bound now.

Yeah I couldnt get Saturday info out of UPS either, Picking a Saturday was not a very good idea for a release... I have a feeling a lot of people will be waiting until Monday and scrounging to find someone to stay at their house and wait all damn day for the thing to arrive at 445pm

Couldn't agree more.

I've got the same "Exception" in Louisville, apparently someone is taking a baseball bat to mine:

LOUISVILLE, KY, US 03/30/2010 1:27 P.M. SHIPMENT IS HELD TO VERIFY COMMODITY DESCRIPTION WITH THE CUSTOMER FOR CORRECT CLASSIFICATION

In all seriousness, this is probably a necessary hold to ensure that the Ipads are delivered on Saturday and not earlier.

Maybe the dogs detected drugs in the package.

I am definitely concerned about the possibility that it won't arrive on Saturday, but I have faith in Apple. I have no faith that UPS can work it out, but Apple can. If they want it to deliver on Saturday, then it should. Saturday delivery is an option for all the delivery options except Ground, so thanks poster for that relief. I'm going to work it out, and depend on updates every morning to keep me sane while waiting for my iPad! I'm really excited, and have shaped my Friday and Saturday around getting this thing (sad indeed for a 15 year old!), so I'm depending on it getting here on Saturday. Fedex would have been a far better option, they are dependable, and I haven't had any trouble with them. I haven't had much experience with UPS either, so I can't say much. As long as DHL isn't touching it, I think it'll all work out. UPS may not have a clue what they are doing, but Apple does. And that, I can have faith in.

I don't have this, "Billing Information Received"

It's been almost a whole day now

I think you will be okay, mine took over a whole day before the "Billing Information" showed up. And when it did, it was about 20 hours after the time showed.

Weight

For those that are tracking, does UPS list a weight for the package?

I'm just curious as I'm using a Mail forwarding service to have a 16GB WiFi sent to Canada, and I want to have a rough idea for shipping costs.

Thanks!
