I'll be interested to see what those of us with the tracking error turn up with in the end (China or U.S. origin scan, for example).

To answer the origin question: I have a UPS tracking number with an origin scan of 3/29, 9:06 am. Presume point of origin local time.

My UPS number is finally being recognized:

SHENZHEN, CN 03/30/2010 3:03 A.M. (local time seeing as it is 1:45am here at the moment)

sweet, mine shipped!

Awww skeet skeet! mine shipped at 5:18am today from Shenzen..... I also have another package coming from china (a collectible) and i'll bet i'll get it on saturday too.

And my UPS error has gone away.

SHENZHEN, CN 03/30/2010 1:51 A.M. ORIGIN SCAN

Well if I look up my ipad shipping info in the UPS iphone app, it's in GUANGZHOU, CN 03/30/2010 10:58AM. So it hasn't moved very far, 140KM, but at least it has moved. Should be interesting to see where it is tomorrow.

don't forget

Don't forget, it makes up a DAY coming from there to here. So, it is really already nearly tomorrow and the update will highlight that soon.

okay FINALLY...I got a UPS agent to fill me in and they are now all up to date on the "special arrangement" that Apple has with UPS. Although none of their systems (it figures) accurately show the updated info in tracking, UPS is well aware that Apple has a guarantee that their customers will receive these packages by Saturday April 3rd and UPS is now open all day because of this arrangement and to assist customers. So UPS finally let their agents know to fill the Apple customers calling that they will indeed get their packages on Saturday April 3rd per Apples arrangement!

about time...this is the info I was waiting to hear!

Does everybody have some type of tracking number at this point? Mine still says prepared for shipment... maybe I didn't make the pre-order cutoff like I thought.

Calm down. If it says 4/3 it will be there 4/3. Mine says the same thing. If it still says this at the end of the day tomorrow maybe then I'll worry about it.

Yes, it can ship from China to your door in less than 2 days. I wouldn't worry unless you get to Friday with no change. I'm guessing that some people think they might get it early if it's already shipping by now, but count on UPS holding them for Saturday.

Bring it on! Yes!!

Though I'm picking mine up at the Apple Store...lol. I'm still getting really excited! 32gb WIFI coming my way this weekend.

These post are hilarious! getting excited about what? most of us have been surfing the net for years now. I still don't get the hype connected with this latest gadget.

So what do people plan to do with these iPads? rush home and check email? surf the web?

LOL :)

There is post on 9 to 5 Mac titled "Apple Order Status page crashing a lot today" which means everyone who has placed an order for this device already has the capability to go online using some method.

Which makes me ask the question what are your plans for the iPad once you get it home since you clearly already have a way to get online.

So without everyone jumping down my throat what are your plans? car trips? just checking email around the house?

For me, it will replace my MacBook Air that I use both for travel and home use, mostly moving around the house for web/email/media. Everything I use it for can be done with the iPad, and it will be a much better form factor. If I ever need a keyboard, which I don't most of the time, I'll use bluetooth to connect one. Occasionally, I'll use Keynote for presentations.

If you really can't see the appeal of a handheld 10" touchscreen over something like a netbook, and why the Apple implementation will be better than others, then you won't understand why people want it. For a lot of us, it really will be a better experience.

I agree..think Macbook/Netbook/Kindle rolled into one....I know I can sit on the couch and surf a little easier than taking my 21.5" iMac and moving it around...plus Ill have a bit better visability than my iphone

Weird question regarding general carrier policies:

Does Apple have the ability to stop/recall an individual package once it's been handed off to the carrier?

Friend of mine is having a situation where there seems to be a chance the final payment won't authorize (he's having problems with his PayPal virtual credit card setup).

Apple says the transaction has been 'settled' and won't let him give them a real CC#. He's tried a few times but they insist it's done. Before you reply, read:

PayPal does not show the transaction in any way. (Not even as an auth.)
The funding source behind the virtual card does not show the transaction in any way. (Not even as an auth.)
The balance of the funding source does not reflect the transaction.

So, back to the basic question: is there any way a company can nuke/recall a shipment after it's been handed off to the carrier?

Edit: Er, to clarify, he's got his tracking info and the package is in Shenzen.

Thanks in advance.

I plan to take over the world with mine... or read a magazine, whichever is easier.

Sure. They can do what UPS calls an "intercept" and reroute the package somewhere else. We have done that a few times after we shipped and then figured out that the order was fraudulent.

Some of us are just gadget freaks who get as excited as children who are waiting for the latest toy to show up. I would be one of those. I don't really "need" an iPad, but I sure "want" one! I just love playing with the latest cool toy, and this to me is one of the coolest ever. But I understand you not understanding all of the frenzy over checking the shipping status every 2 seconds. If you don't get excited about such things, you don't.

great point! I mean, if you arent a gadget freak or dont care about shipping updates and when the item will arrive etc...why are you inside a forum specifically designated for shipping posts regarding iPad?? I mean it does not make too much sense to be hanging around this specific forum dedicated to play by plays of iPad shipments does it?
