By the time you equip the new M2 Air or M2 Pro with 16GB/512GB SSD, you're pretty darn close to the price of a 14" M1 Pro when they are on sale at various times. I've seen the 14" M1 Pro on sale in the $1700's.

Apple is really crowding the lines and making it hard to distinguish one model from another.
It's difficult to compare sale prices with MSRPs. Chances are in a few months we will see sale prices on the M2 Airs, as well.

Having just received my new 14" M1 Max on Friday, I was worried about wanting to return it for a 13" M2... until I saw the touch bar...

You need to take into consideration any local taxes. Apples advertised prices in dollars exclude VAT, as it’s different state to state. But there is still definitely a bit of flex built in which suggests Apple ain’t expecting the currency markets to improve any time soon!

She is playing the piano with one hand, standing, holding a $1,200 computer in the other hand, with nowhere in sight to lay down the computer. Also wallpaper is cracked and appears to be held in with screws (?). Exterior 2-gang J-Box, Mid-20th century electric heater and the most disgusting air conditioner I have ever seen. People living in cities probably pay $3,000 a month for this.

Problem is the 1tb version of the MBP is harder to find on sale.

It's actually lighter than the M1 Air.
But what made the Air standout in the product line was the wedge shape which made it appear thinner than it actually was. This seems like a continuation of the MacBook rather than MBA.

And only two USB-C ports. If they aren't going to include MagSafe, they should at least include 4 USB-C/TB ports. My old 2018 MBP even has four!

Air vs Pro. See the difference? Need Pro features? Get a Pro Mac for god sa*e ...

Comparing the "exchange rate" used this morning (and still used for everything not updated) vs. the new stuff and the M1 Air clearly suggest that Apple thinks the € to be weaker in the near future.

Spec up the M2 nonPro a bit and your at the same price as the base 14"....

/me expects quite an outcry if this lasts into iPhone season

It is.. That's Apple's strategy to egg you towards the M1 Pro (14" probably) instead..

Anytime you spec a mac ( say M2 MBA ) higher than it's base, the next tier base ( like the M1 Pro 14" ) starts to look like the more 'logical' purchase!

Not a new concept.. but genius pricing strategy nonetheless!
Very true. I do think the keyboard looks way better on the new Air than the Pro. But the pro has the better screen, bigger size and stronger chip. Yeah the Pro when it’s on sale will be a better deal.

This is mostly due to a very weak currency and the anticipation that it will continue to weaken.

Anyone have any insight into how these displays will compare to the 14" MBPs? Specifically, I'm wondering if the backs will be as black.

It just says Liquid Retina IPS, vs the Pro's Liquid Retina XDR - I don't understand the technical details... Can anyone shine some light on this?

Considering the current situation in Europe, whether that be political, energy prices and future supply concerns, the Ukraine crisis, and more… it’s not surprising there’s little confidence in European currencies right now. It would explain the £100 mark-up in the UK over USD too.

Liquid Retina XDR > Liquid Retina IPS

You can tell because XDR has the letter X in it. XDR = Extreme Dynamic Range. You get brighter brights and blacker blacks. IPS is the screen technology where you can look at it from any angle and it doesn't invert the colors.

Not supporting dual displays on the new MBA is really a miss IMO.
Exactly! Huge miss for basic office use/functionalty. Sometimes people need more than one display but don't need a MBP power. Ugh, 2 years in and you can't support multiple monitors?!? Who gives a **** about one 6K! No one who is buying an Air is buying a $5K display.
