No Apple Fold makes this another ho-hum nothing to see here, pass and wait a year event. Nothing in a 17 that would make me move on from a 14PM. I'd love to see Apple prove me wrong an One More Thing the Fold.

Always wonder how much revenue do they lose just shutting it down completely? Seems so antiquated to do it - I get it’s to promote the presser but you’d think some bean counter would ask why they continue to do so.

Sure a few customers unaware of the announcements may be angry they just ordered an iPhone 16 - but they can always return it!

Everyone keeps talking about the fold iPhone but I don't think people are realizing the price increase from Apple for a foldable pro max phone. Those will easily start off at 2K and then I would be worried about durability and debris getting in the creases of the folding mechanism etc. Then of course, the foldable iPhone would REALLY start to make an iPad redundant or obsolete.

I can't believe after all these years Apple is still doing this silly little, gimmicky marketing trick to build up hype lol.
It really is because of the state of their web content management. They can't really do a new release without taking everything down first. I think they are just not technically capable.

We know this because of the poor bug ridden state of their other software. Just a few months ago it took about 8 clicks to log into the developer site because it would get confused and not bring up the saved password. You had to click twice in each of the account name and password fields. This was live for months and no one seemed to care.

This used to be news more than two decades ago. Putting the store on maintenance mode because they’re unable to handle updates without it isn’t news anymore.

You're basing this on absolutely nothing. Baseless speculation presented as fact. I don't believe this for a second.

Provably false since they have left the store online for releases sometimes.

I wonder if this is something Apple does because it's something they've always done. We've all seen it before - we keep doing things some archaic way even though better processes exist because that's the way we've always done it.

I suppose an aspect of the human experience is being afraid of change.

Yes it would. The iPad is already effectively obsolete. It is more of a toy. I use a desktop or laptop w multiple connected screens or my iPhone 14PM for everything while I am on the go. My iPhone is my laptop. There is no need really for an iPad unless I am on a flight watching tv shows and movies.

So a fold price point makes sense for a 'computer' I will use daily for so so so so much and helps run my life. At that price point, I get it. I expect it to last me 3-4 years easily. And the extra screen real estate functionality, side by side apps, etc. is definitely what I am waiting for.

But it will be more expensive than an iPad, and the big question with a foldable screen is durability.

I don't think a foldable iPhone will kill the iPad line, because a foldable iPhone will be expensive. It might damages sales of the iPad Pro, but the base iPad and iPad Air will be mostly unaffected, as buyers won't be choosing between a a base iPad or iPad Air and a foldable iPhone - the price points are too different, even when you add the price of an iPhone and an iPad Air together.

I didn't say the fold would kill the iPad. I think the iPad has its niche. Some people use the Pros as workhorses. Some use the iPad as a computer replacement. And some use it for kids or content consumption.

But for me, other than some content consumption, I really don't have a use case for it. If I need to look at something, my phone is always so much more accessible and the easy option. If the phone isn't the right product, then I go to my Mac Studio. Or my work laptop. I don't really use an iPad for that.

I think this event is going to be a snore-fest - probably going to be "more of the same thing" you see every year. It's been a while since Apple released a game-changing feature or product (the last one being Apple silicon).

Vision OS could be considered an innovative product (relatively), but it's so expensive that it's not practical to use. Maybe we'll see a more affordable Vision OS Product? Even then I question if it would be a game changer with AR. I own a Valve Index currently, and hardly ever use it.

They're so obsessed with getting caught up with AI that everything else is falling by the wayside, and yet, Siri is pretty stupid.

I hope I'm wrong and we're going to see some cool stuff today.

That's fair enough. Personally I'm not crazy about iPad as anything other than an easy content consumption device. We have a base iPad as a "family machine" ( i.e. longing on a sofa), but I've no burning desire to have an iPad of my very own. I want a physical keyboard for any real work, I find IPAdOS gets in the way far more than MacOS, and in this way a foldable phone wouldn't work for me either. But my wife loves her iPad Pro, and uses it as her main work device.

The bigger problem with the iPad is the "what's it for" question: basically is it a "big iPhone" or a "laptop replacement." - it's trying to be both at the same time and that makes it an awkward device to pitch.

I honestly think a foldable iPhone will end up being a niche product. It will suit some people, but I don't think it'll be adopted across the board. And that's fine. But glad phones and slab tablet are here to stay for a lot of people for the foreseeable future.

Something I'd like see Apple doing (but I don't believe the will) is effective make a "Magic Keyboard" with a monitor... for iPhones.

That would put a serious dent in the iPad / lower end of the Mac market.

1. The few people I know that have a Galaxy Fold or whatever, they have the standard external screen AND the ability to open it up and have more functionality. It actually doesn't work great for consumption because it is square and not 16:9 so movies / tv / youtube don't work great, though I think you do get a slight size bump. I think it does work great for email, web, and use cases of split screen with one on each half.

2. To your Magic keyboard - external Monitor for an iPhone, I just don't know how well that would work. I guess the iPhone has the tech capabilities to drive the monitor over a connection. The new M class iPads push content to a connected screen using Stage Manager. I think even extended, not just mirrored.
