Are people really pre-ordering this?
It's not a revolutionary new whatever

Yes people are preordering this and yes there are revolutionary aspects of it. The camera is amazing looking which is the big reason I'm getting one, the battery life is greatly improved, and the stuff Apple is doing on the computational photography front is phenomenal.

Technology has really matured. You're not going to see the big revolutionary things you're expecting anymore until some new giant breakthrough is discovered.

to some. But this thread will repeat itself in a year.

I think this year was all about the camera, as they left the rest of the phone mostly untouched. But it seems next year will address the phone the, so 2020 could be actual "innovation".

Logged in AT&T, waiting to get auto logged out and placed in a Queue like last year.... Come on iPhone 11 Pro Silver!

Sign of times I guess. Pre-orders late at night only mean something if there is huge pre-order demand. Starting them in the morning is one way to allow more people to casually pre-order so that (hopefully for Apple) the headlines the next day can still say how fast the initial batch went.

Fortunately for the consumers the general trend for people is to keep their phones longer, save for fashion-conscious buyers. It's safe to say new phones that have come out this year don't bring anything revolutionary to the table. I'm skipping this year as well, first time since I can remember. There's just no point for a year-over-year upgrade these days. I honestly miss the excitement of iPhone 3, 4, or even 6 Plus.

Buying 11 Pro Max, skipping 2020 as it will be a redesign which will need some kinks worked out which will happen with 12s in 2021 when I'll upgrade again.

I wasn’t going to, as the XS Max is the best iPhone I’ve ever had, but I’m in the Upgrade Program and the 11 Pro Max is about £2 more per month or something similar, so I’m going for Miidnight Green

Ditto. iPhone upgrade program. Already pre-approved for 11 Pro Max and will pay with Apple Card this year to get 3% off the price.

No Phone for me but I'll be updating my watch though.
Same. Had my 7 until last fall when a $750-off-Xs-with-tradein deal got me to upgrade.

I hadn't been expecting to do a watch update this year but the always-on display and increased storage were enough to change my mind.

2020 is going to be the big upgrade
Says who, the rumor mills? Quite a bit of features were rumored for this years iPhone and most didn’t come true. I would expect the same to happen for next years iPhones. I don’t understand why people get hyped up over rumors then blame Apple for not following through when they NEVER even promised features to begin with.
