Apple Store Down Ahead of iPhone 17 Pre-Orders

If you want an iPhone 17 ASAP, is it better to pre-order or go into a store on launch day?

Pre-order is the way. Store on launch day is the backup plan.

Still on the fence. Leaning towards getting a 17 Pro. Can easily though wait another year with my 13PM though.

One nice thing is it already would have iOS26 already installed. Right now on my 13PM I just have iOS17 (iOS 18 just seems too buggy for me and I hate what they did to the Photos app).

If I do get the 17, it will be in the Deep Blue. Will go with my Midnight Macbook Air I got earlier this year.

First new phone since the 14 Pro Max. 3 years ago I got my order in about 10 minutes after the site went live... That pushed my delivery back 2 weeks! Hoping to have better luck this time.

Order placed by 13:01 (UK) using the website. I ignored the 'Please Stay on This Page' and refreshed.

I left the Apple Store App on my iPhone at 'Please Stay on This Page' and it didn't automatically change to the ordering screen till 13:04.

Well that was smooth. I was able to order a 256gb orange pro max.

Store went live at 8:02. By 8:03 I secured my 8:00-8:15 pick up slot at local Apple Store.

Shutting the site down also limits the possibility of a DOS.

I will say that was the smoothest "pre-order" experience I have had in the last few years. iPhone Air ordered! (white)

Well, this is new.

The Apple Store app switched from that screen at about 5:02 and change. By 5:03, my order was complete. They’ve gotten so much better at this. Man, I remember when we were just refreshing and refreshing for 15-30 minutes.

ETA: Shoot, I’m an idiot. I just realized that my phone isn’t coming until the 25, and I could have picked up on the 19. I’m just so used to getting delivery on launch day if I get on by 5 that I was on autopilot. I saw the dates but they didn’t register.

Dang it.

BTW, I’m getting an orange Pro with 512gb.

That screen kept me out for about 7 minutes, which was enough time for shipping to slip to Sept 25th. Kinda bummed I woke up at 4:30am for that...
