Well played Apple.

Still, with all the complaining, people wont turn their backs on Apple.

I'm glad I waited for this, but it just re-affirms my decision to wait for an iPad (depending on price) or get a windows laptop.

I can see UK owners getting shafted on iPad prices now given what we have seen today, and that my friends is a right pisser!

Back UP YEAHHHHH

15" i7 here I come!!!! Eek - how much! £1800 FFS!

Same one in the US is $2200 - what a rip off! With exchange rate at $1.5/£1 (which is crap anyway) it should only be £1400

Why do we get ripped off

Jeez, when are people EVER going to learn that UK prices include VAT and the US prices DO NOT include sales tax? The difference is less than £100 when you take taxes into consideration.

Sorry, I just figured that telling you it was the same card that was in the previous 15" and 17" models was enough. It's a significant step up for the 13".

As for the 330m, well... It's a step up, but not a significant one from the 9600m. It's basically a rebadged 9700m GT.

But, honestly, with nVidia's mobile GPU lineup right now, there's not a whole lot of options.

Alright thanks.

Dual Core i5/i7

The new Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors boost performance up to 50 percent over the previous generation. Based on Intel’s latest 32-nanometer process technology, these are the fastest dual-core processors available and they set an all-new benchmark for Mac notebooks.

Nothing much has changed to be honest!

I think this update is primarily aimed at the potential gamers, because the most significant change is the GPU. The CPU upgrade will 'only' give you an improvement of about 10%... So anybody who has a MBP (2009 spec) and not using it for games shouldn't be to upset because the real world performance difference isn't too much...

BTW... I think the exchange rates apple are using are ridiculous! Compare the 17" MBP US price with the Euro price:

US: $ 2299
EU: € 2249

They must be joking!

Once again, the EU price includes VAT while the US price does not. IIRC, that's 17% in most EU countries.

Add in the extra costs for localization, shipping, support, and all the paternalistic EU laws that affect Apple and it's not that far out of line.

glad i decided to keep my imac and get the ipad. this would have been major dissappointment.

Could it be that the 13" had to stay with the C2D because this way they can use Nvidia's chipsets, whereas they couldn't with the i3/i5/i7 ?

I personally am glad that I waited...even for the 13. Faster gpu, faster cpu, and larger hard drive standard. Longer battery life is a plus.... basically a better computer. An i5 would've been nice, but I can deal ;)

I'll probably settle, but I'll be stuck with it for years. I don't buy new computers very often.

Actually the difference is like 240 dollars or 160 pounds if you assume a US sales tax of 8%.

Edit: Nevermind, I see now that by taking into consideration you mean removing

wow, that's innovative. they can't even give us a i3??? if you're happy with substandard upgrades, then you should be excited.

You never said innovative, you said NOTHING new. That is wrong. Not to mention the longer lasting battery.

What were you expecting anyway ? A silent innovative upgrade ? This is basically what this update was supposed to be, bar the C2D in the 13".

And no, I'm not excited since I'm not in the market anymore.

Seems a mixed update for many people.

First, the :(

C2D on 13" :(
No USB 3 :(
No 1024MB video RAM :(
No HDMI :(
No Blu-Ray :(
£150 for anti-gloss screen :(
High-resolution screens a pricey option :(
Still no PCI slot on the 15" :(
SSDs still super expensive :(

Then, the :)

i5s and i7s in 15" and 17" :)
Longer battery life :)
Better GPUs :)
Auto-switch between discreet and integrated GPUs :)
Larger HDD as standard :)
More RAM as standard :)

When does everyone reckon the next update will be? ;)

depends on the model doesn't it, but in a sliding scale way, it starts at less than £100 and goes up, but not by a lot. It's certainly not the £400 the original poster is making the usual mistake about.

Except bigger hard drives, more RAM and a new GPU. Yeah, NOTHING new indeed.

Haha,

Yes, totally disappointing and why then do it at all?

Looks like Apple just caved in to pressure and threw some meat at the starving masses.

Now we need to start new posts about when the next update is due and what should be in it.

Wait , I think we did that already! :)

The 13" is a joke Sony have just release a 13" Z series with an Core 2.66 i7 500gb and 4GB DDR3 330GT and 1080p with 3g WAN for £1800 what gives with apple surely a i7 in a 13" SONY CAN!?

There isnt much of a performance gap between Core2 and i3 and USB3 is still on the very high end motherboards.

for the 15' should i get the wide screen or upgrade to HD glossy or HD antiglare and why

thanks

Hmmm... interesting.

I keep reconsidering replacing my old Powerbook with something new, but since I have a MBP for work, there hasn't been the need. This update doesn't impress me enough to justify spending the money either.

Perhaps I'll just pick up a Mac Mini one of these days instead. Those suckers are great for the price.
