Generally I am a bit disappointed by the update especially because of price here in UK. Thats too expensive for that what they got to offer.
I wanted either new Macbook Pro or Macbook Air. Now I stay with my old MBP and see what updated MBA will bring; hopefully with at least i3.

Just bought it iMac 27" with i7 and 16GB Ram. That will keep me going for a while ;)

i5 and i7 are great and hope rumours are true! :)

but how about the graphics cards!?!?!?!

I truly hope they moved up from 9600 >_<

Does anyone else wish that apple would offer a 13inch MBP at like 1799 that is an actual PRO laptop?

If they were going to slap the Pro label on it and get everyone excited they need to give a viable option to those whole like portability but still want the options of a MBP!!!

Sorry just venting I guess.

I mean they didn't even give us a matte or high res screen option :(

On the bright side my low end last generation MBP still feels quite current and I have absolutely no reason to do something stupid like sell my current computer and give apple more money *phew!*

Ill be selling my month old c2d 2.66 15" for 1800.00 wish there was a way apple would take this back :( even with a restocking fee. BUt im not sure the upgrade is worth all the hassle.

I personally am glad that I waited...even for the 13. Faster gpu, faster cpu, and larger hard drive standard. Longer battery life is a plus.... basically a better computer. An i5 would've been nice, but I can deal ;)

Well that doesnt make me any wiser.

Sorry, I just figured that telling you it was the same card that was in the previous 15" and 17" models was enough. It's a significant step up for the 13".

As for the 330m, well... It's a step up, but not a significant one from the 9600m. It's basically a rebadged 9700m GT.

But, honestly, with nVidia's mobile GPU lineup right now, there's not a whole lot of options.

Exactly - what a rip off. Even when the xrate is sh*t at $1.5=£1 instead of $2=£1 like a year or so ago - they still rip us off with an xrate of $1.2=£1 - what a total rip off. OK, if you import from the US you have 10% duty and 17.5% tax to pay but I assume there's sales tax in the US anyway

Rip off - a $2000 MBP should be £1400 max in the UK

Guh, every time, every bloody time Apple launch a new product someone cocks this calculation up and bitches about it. US prices do NOT include sales tax, UK's do. Using the base macbook as an example:

UK Price - £999.99
UK Price without VAT - £851.06
UK price in Dollars at current exchange rate of 0.6483 - $1,312.74
US Price - $1,199.00
Difference - $113.74

That difference has to cover any additional taxes that get paid to the UK government, higher transport cost, additional costs from lower volume of devices (UK localisation costs) and also absorb any short term changes in the interest rate. It's actually pretty damn close to where it should be when everything's taken into account so if you want to blame anyone blame our lovely money-grubbing government.

Nothing much has changed to be honest!

I think this update is primarily aimed at the potential gamers, because the most significant change is the GPU. The CPU upgrade will 'only' give you an improvement of about 10%... So anybody who has a MBP (2009 spec) and not using it for games shouldn't be to upset because the real world performance difference isn't too much...

BTW... I think the exchange rates apple are using are ridiculous! Compare the 17" MBP US price with the Euro price:

US: $ 2299
EU: € 2249

They must be joking!

Lesson Learned

So, I too am a fool who sold my 13" MBP about six weeks ago and have been doing without, only to find a disappointing refresh, if you can even call it that, to the new 13". I think I have learned my lesson about managing expectations when it comes to Apple refreshing their products. I want my old 13" back.
