If they can afford to have someone work on a Sunday, they can afford to have someone work work at 3am. They would do maintenance at this time. Not smack in the middle of a weekend, come on now.

I am sure someone at some point has asked this, but...

Why is such an innovative company like Apple taking down their store for "maintenance" or any other reason?

I am in this business, and when a client wants to be up 24/7, it happens. This seems like flawed tech to me.

I always wondered why this happened.

I think they just do it now on purpose to build hype.

They would be inclined to add items like the iPad to the store at times of high traffic to increase initial sales. I am not sure why they haven't built their website to allow major updates without closing the store.

I would agree with you, apart from they actually do this quite often.

they said they were having the iPad available in the US earlier so maybe it is speed bumps and pre orders

or maintenance.

Maybe because taking the Store down creates a feeding frenzy and generates a lot of talk and activity even when they just do maintenance

Pre-Orders is too soon. First the FCC must approve, which I doubt will take less than a week to do considering all the legalities and test the FCC needs. Minimum I say a month for FCC approval and then we can see Pre-Oders...

What a silly statement. You have no idea why the store is down. Maybe they're loading a bunch of data that was just received from factories in China. It's tomorrow there.

I agree it's too soon. Maybe other item updates, perhaps. Removal of 8GB iPod touch? i7 core updates? Upgrade of white MacBook?

in response to the link in the main community forums...

This is certainly one infinite loop ;)

seeing NEW icons next to MB, mini, and iMac. Can't see in real differences though.

How do you a know that they filed for it the day of the debut? They could have filed 2 weeks previously.

No it's not?... or maybe it's back down. Either way it's not up for me (U.S.)
