My uncle has been waiting in line for 3 days. Was told he was guaranteed a jet black model. Late yesterday, he is told " oh sorry, we made a mistake..." offered him a 25 gift card and a smoothie. He is pissed.

They're lucky if they did (receive something).
I wouldn't offer anything. If people want to wait in line...fine. But you aren't owed something just because you waited and then were told they didn't have any stock.
I know the NYC stores will have some pluses....
Because I ordered a Plus 256gb via the app... not knowing I had to reserve for upgrade (not clear in app at 3 am)
Then I reserved one for IUP in store same day same time. But now My relatives called me and want to buy my iphone 6s plus so I will just pick up the order I made, and not do the upgrade I have reserved.

Ok it's official, I just came back from the upper side Apple Store here in New York and the gm told me that the statement apple more this morning is indeed true and that no Plus model inventory will be sold to walk-in customers and that waiting outside of the store overnight will be pointless, they will have the smaller model of the iPhone 7 for walk-ins but the Plus inventory will all be used to fulfill preorders and reservations
I think this will vary by store because I called my local Apple Store here in the Chicago suburbs and they said they WILL have all models of the iPhone available for walkins. It may be limited, but they will have some.
I would call again and see if you get the same answer before getting inline. I suspect even if there are a few Apple won't let them go after saying there were none.
Well I started my conversation by saying "I know you won't have any Pluses to sell tomorrow, but do you know when you might get them in to sell to walkins?" And the reply was "Where did you hear that? We have some stock. It may be limited, but we have some." This was about 45 minutes ago, long after the reported statement from Apple. Still haven't seen that statement from Apple with a decent source that looks reputable and not like it was just made up.
How's that possible when the CEO of Apple said this morning no walk-ins will be allowed to buy the Plus model during the morning tomorrow when stores open? Whoever told you that might have been uninformed or unpdated on the situation, I spoke in person to the general manager, not on the phone
Hey you never know. Someone could miss their reservation and one will pop up. I can guarantee it will happen tomorrow.
Source on Tim Cook saying this? I've still never seen this statement from an official source, just rumor sites online...
Your uncle isn't too bright. He can wait in line for 3 days but can't wake up to preorder.
My apple store says they have limited plusses, but won't be able to sell them the are going to be used for reservations that open Sept. 17th.
Was he expecting 2 smoothies?
Apple had limited stock and they also were dealing with unhappy customers who enrolled in the iPhone Upgrade Program last year, so they re-allocated the in-store stock to that.

Last year the store rep told me they kept the reservations until the end of the day. The windows are mainly so that they can spread out the crowd and not have everyone show up at the same time.

do you HONESTLY think that an apple employee is going to over ride what the CEO is saying? No.
Just because you don't want to hear that they won't have this, doesn't make it any less true. In fact, most carriers won't even have pluses either. If you didn't pre order, you probably aren't getting one tomorrow.
Keep us updated though. You manage to prove Tim Cook wrong and you end up getting a 7 Plus tomorrow without a pre order or reservation I will gladly apologize. But until you can do it... we are waiting to see if you actually make this stupid attempt and wait in line for one.

You nailed it bro, exactly my point. The CEO of Apple said there wont be any Plus Models for sale for walk-ins on Launch day yet some people still speculate and take the word of some employee from an Apple store instead, Carrier stores are a different story but to get a Plus Model tomorrow morning without a reservation or a preorder at an apple store would be a waste of time and a nearly impossible task
Thank you for the direct links. I was searching and did not find any official sources like that. Also, I did not know the statement came directly from Tim Cook, and still those sites only list "Apple" not "Tim Cook" as the source of the statement. I was just passing along information I had received. I don't plan on camping out so I wasn't expecting a phone tomorrow anyway, unless my preorder at Target magically becomes available. My best bet at this point is to check Apple Store reservations starting Saturday morning at 8am.
