At the Columbia Mall in Columbia, MD, people queue up hours before the mall opens in a parking garage, the opening of which gets very close to the Apple Store. In the past, I used to arrive early and avoid the security cars, then drive into the parking garage when I thought it was safe. Security has also dispersed the crowd the last year that I waited. That was a couple of years ago. I remember one year getting there around 3 am only to find a large line in the garage. I got in the line and waited. Finally, we were ushered into the mall, slowly, very slowly. I had wanted an AT&T iPad. Finally, after an additional long wait, I got to the head of the line. This is no lie, I heard someone yell out of the Apple store, "We just ran out of AT&T iPads!" I thought, "Damn it, I'm going to buy something." So I went into the store and bought a WiFI only iPad. I took it home and thought, "This isn't what I want." I returned it and ordered the iPad online. Lesson learned. I'm not standing in long lines for a hope.
