Sure, there is going to be a store opened in the Yorkdale mall this year. That's for certain. It may even open on May 21st, although that is on the fast side of what is possible. However, if you take the image posted above and use Photoshop to enlarge it, you find an awful lot of mysteriously misaligned pixels around the Apple insignia and the words supposedly painted on the black plywood. Try it yourself. If I'm wrong I will apologize profusely. We have other members in Toronto; can anyone go by and take a look?

Why a newbie wants to do this in his or her second post is beyond me.

okay,i agree with you now, i looked at it in photo shop and it looks hoarably photoshoped.

I Was There Too...

I was just at Yorkdale on Friday. I actually walked through the entire mall to go from subway to drugstore to parking lot. I don't remember seeing any stores that had closed down, because I would've noticed them. The Apple Store is most likely moving into the southeast part of the mall near Rainforest Cafe and Famous Players (ironically near a little place called 'Mac Sushi'). I can tell you flat out that sign is nowhere to be found, because he posted that at 3:39 and I was there around 5:30. May 21 seems like a stretch though. It's a huge mess there, and they're a LONG way from being done. But hey, I've waited how long for an Apple Store?

It's True

:) I was at the mall on last Saturday (Feb 26th) and I can personally verify that there is an apple store sign up in front of one of the stores (near Roots). Finally, this May, there will actually be a point to living in Canada

Thanks for the post, yudansha, but it would be much more convincing if it could be verified by someone who isn't posting for the first time. Any regular members in Toronto who have seen the spot in question?

I have to wonder how well apple pays its employees at these stores. It would be very interesting to work for the company, though I'm not willing to move to a lefty state like California.

Dave

I was wondering that myself. Does anyone here know what the average pay is for Apple Store Employees?

On a side note, I think the Flatiron building itself would be too small for a typical Apple store. Maybe a mini store.

I agree. There used to be a Sprint store in there and it was tiny. The location is great even though its around the corner from Tekserve. I like Tekserve but the whole take a number thing is a pain. Maybe if the new Apple store only sold Apple hardware and software, no third party stuff or genus bar. It would work well for me. I work on 49th and Park. Geting to the Apple Store in Soho after work is a mission.

Not sure. A friend of mine opened their first store, and now runs three of them. Supposedly he is in the six-figures, but I think the average floor employee is in the 10.00 an hour range. It's retail, after all.

If I didn't have so much else going on, I'd love to work a few evenings, but other more important things to do. :(

I'll have a look on Wednesday. I was actualy in the mall on Saturday to see Constantine, but I went straight into the theatre so I wasn't near Roots or the newly renovated area (well techincaly I was right beside it, but only from the outside...which still isn't much to look at.) I'm not sure if the post is true or not... the Yorkdale Roots store is in section 19 on the mall map and not part of the currently rennovated area.

<edit> As far as the location goes I agree with podmeister </edit>

Again i'll confirm on Wednesday and bring my digital with me if I have need.

p.s Sayhey, clear out some of your PM's will ya!?! :D

For this store and the other two posted at the same time there are no individual job listings as of yet. When those go up it is usually 3-6 months, barring construction delays such as they are having in Braintree and Century City, from listing to opening. Right now, the best one can say is it is likely they will be summer openings.

Apple's got a listing for Mac Specialist at Eastview in Victor. There's also a Mac Genius position listing out there elsewhere.

I just registered so I could say exactly the same thing! I shared a plane ride out of Rochester last month with an Apple employee who said he's the guy who surveys the locations for Apple stores. He said he was visiting family, but you know I have a hunch that this rumor is going to pan out...

I'm throwin a high 5 at ya from Brighton!

I'm thrilled to see them moving in. I'm right down the street. Sad thing is, a local company called the Jessi Group has done a nice job for Rochester. They've got a store in Mendon (just beyond Victor), their Mac Ave store on Monroe in Rochester, and they just opened a kiosk store inside Eastview Mall! I feel bad for them.

I'll scope the mall for us. I hope it's not a mini store!

Very cool! I see they now also have similar listings for the Flatiron and Annapolis store.

Swung by Eastview in Victor on my way home. No signs up, no obvious construction. There's a few possible spots. My guess is where William Sonoma was prior to the latest expansion.

Anyhow, I spotted two ladie roaming the mall checking things off on a map of the mall. So I asked them! They said there's not move-in date since they're still in negotiations. She said they're very excited about it though! I asked about location and she gave me the "can't release that info" song and dance. She also noted that the Jessi Group/Mac Ave knew about the store coming prior to them opening their kiosk?!

I BELIEVE THAT I AM OWED AN APOLOGY.

It wasn't my picture. I simply reposted it and it has been verified by others.

I will be patiently waiting.

You don't have to be too patient. I am sorry. I was told by someone I consider very reputable that the photo was a fake and it looks like he and I were wrong. I will not accept his word so readily from now on. I see that it is now posted as valid on many other sites, and though I was waiting for Raid's post tomorrow for confirmation it now looks like there is little doubt the picture is real.

I'm glad for Toronto that it appears it will be an early opening in Canada. Apple has been too slow to open stores north of the border. I hope we see a Montreal or a Vancouver store soon as well.

One small thing, if you are going to post other people's pictures it is customary to give them credit. That way, at least, when old fools like me jump to faulty conclusions we will be criticizing them and not you. Good post and good catch. Welcome to MacRumors and I hope my stupid mistake does not stop you from further posts. Once again, my apologies.

Any news on the Annapolis Store?

They only have one job listing for it, so hopefully they will be putting it into an existing space as posistions seem to be filled already?

I'll have to take a wander in the mall.

Thanks, apology accepted.

Now on to more pressing issues... G5 iMac speedbump announcement?

Apple now has Asst. Manager positions listed for the Annapolis and Flatiron stores. It also has Store Manager positions open for the Eastview and Flatiron stores. It is not uncommon for all of the customary job listings to appear over a short period of time and it is not indicative of much of anything if we don't see the full complement of positions posted for each store right away. Also, whenever Apple opens a store there will be renovations of the existing locations to fit the Apple motif. What I'm try to say is, I'd still count on Apple's usual 3-6 month time frame from initial job listings to opening day. That puts Annapolis in a May to August timeframe for a likely opening date, but as the construction delays in Braintree and Century City have shown - stuff happens. Don't get in line just yet.

edit: having checked back on Apple's site, I see that the full complement of listings is now posted for all three stores.

That's not the best place for the very first Apple Store in Canada. It should have been located near the movie theatres and Indigo which is an extremly high traffic area. The place where the billboards went up is the second slowest part of the mall just after the subway entrance.
There's a "Baguette" restaurant across from it so I guess it will have that traffic to benefit from.
A little curiosity: The Apple store is directly connected to the Sony Store on the other side of the mall (their backs are facing eachother) They'll be stealing eachother's wi-fi signal..and hacking into eachother's systems.. hehe;)

annapolis mall...forget it

We need another Apple store here in Maryland. Too bad I don't live near Annapolis. I live in Baltimore. The closest Apple store is the one in Towson, which I have yet to go to.

you all know there is a great little mac only shop in Severna Park?
Mac Services, they do sales and service.
and you dont/wont have to fight mall traffic.

Do you know what is causing the construction delays on the South Shore? Or does the full compliment of openings mean that the problem is fixed? Thank you Sayhey.
