Perhaps that is why everyone's order is preparing to ship...Apple wants to get these delivered ASAP so people won't return their online orders to buy in store.
Would have been nice to know the other day. I wouldn't have ordered online had I known this. Apple needs to fire the person in charge of these releases. Apple Watch release was screwed up too. What is going on with Apple lately???
I didn't pay the extra for faster shipping so I'll get it Monday - Wednesday. If I knew they'd be at the Apple Store I would've picked one up Friday instead.mine is on track to be delivered on Friday ... currently in 'preparing for shipment' state. No confirmation yet that it will really be here on Friday, but I think timing looks good.
If you spend the extra 18 bucks, you should have it than by Friday (hopeful guessing ....)

By the time you pay the duty on it and get it shipped to you, you'll get it later and pay more.
How could you not have known that? Every time they release a new product with a pre-order the shipping data for release day is the day you can get it in the store. This is true of the iPad, iPhone, MacBook, iMac, and every other Apple product.

I assume the App Store will go live tomorrow or Friday morning. AirPlay will work, so will iTunes.
The only third party service I use is Netflix and I can use it on my iPad if is not yet available on tvOS, but since is working on the 3rd generation TV I assume it will be ready for the 4th
The problem, in this case, is that you had to pay EXTRA to get the device shipped to you the same day it would be available in stores. This has not been true of recent iPhone, iPad, etc., releases -- by pre-ordering online, you could receive your device the same day it would be available in stores with NO surplus charge for "rush" shipping. What exactly was screwed up with the appleTV release? It was always the way that pre ordered arrive the same day as in store sales start (except the one well announced iPhone release where pre-orders started on the release day ... and everybody cried foul play since it was so unusual)
That's actually doable but I probably won't do that. It's not that urgent for me to get it Friday. Now if it was an iPhone... LolPick one up Friday, return the one you get Monday.
This is how every Apple release for years and years has been. It's your own fault for not being smart enough to recognize that if the release day for online orders is Friday then they will go on sale at the Apple Store on Friday also. This has been the case with the iPhone, iPad, iMac, MacBook.......

Wasn't the MacBook almost impossible to get in store for weeks after it's official release?
I don't understand why they didn't announce the launch day officially as they do with iPhone.
As long as I remember they told Apple TV would launch by the end of October and Friday is the last day of the month so we could expect the product to be available in stores, but how hard is to update the Apple TV's page and write the actual date?
What about the Apple Watch?
Nobody really knows what Apple will do - but very easy after with with 20/20 hindsight.

That's what this article that we're commenting on is about. You are right that Apple hasn't announced an official in-store release date, but the whole point of the article is to suggest that the Apple TV will be available in Apple Stores on Friday.I don't recall ATV having a official release date for in-stores, even though there are reports for being able to purchase this Friday, it isn't confirmed is it? For all we know could still be the weekend or Monday, until its from Apple its just a guess
Apple Retail employees that have spoken to 9to5Mac have shed some light on when we might see the new set-top box, however, suggesting it will be in stores on Friday, October 30.
Apple retail locations are set to receive shipments at the end of the week, with Apple Stores being reconfigured overnight on Thursday to focus on promoting the new Apple TV.

Then I guess none of us should be commenting on this article, or even reading MacRUMORS to begin with.I understand your quote but is their an official statement from Apple? That's just word of mouth from an employee, who knows if that information is reliable.
so, reject deliveryAlready preparing for shipment and can't cancel :-/

Yay,
So $17 to get it on Friday is dat apple tax doe
Actually, Saturday October 31 is the last day of October, not Friday
So they could have gotten away with making it available on Saturday (not sure if they have had a Saturday release day)
