Economies of scale may also be responsible, with production costs for pairing the A13 with a smaller amount of storage potentially costing more than the same 64GB system currently used in the iPhone 11 that is still on sale and the ninth-generation iPad.
I can understand this. On the other hand, given Apple's resources, it seems like Apple could design a better-suited chip.

I know this is a n00b comment but I’m still interested by how iOS is able to present itself on different devices.

Windows is Windows on a 10” laptop or a 30” display. iOS works the same way with iPhone sizes but goes through a metamorphosis when jumping to iPad size.
That's actually not correct. Windows has a separate UI layer. While you're most familiar with the desktop experience, it also has a console UI (xbox), server UI (no aero) and had a phone UI. On the Phone, if you were to connect it to a monitor, you'd get a desktop like experience too.

What are your top feature wishes for a 27" screen with a built-in iPhone 11?

- Standalone IOS machine with apps
- Full TVOS
- Touch screen
- Sidecar
- Wifi
- Face ID
- LTE
- GPS
- Cell phone (hey it's in there)
- Battery
Face ID, Full TVOS, full optimization with iPadOS where those ugly side black bars are a thing of the past!

I would have expected the new display to run as it’s own iOS device allowing for iOS apps to run on top of and independently of the macOS device it is connected to. I guess the first real true convergence device that should be what could have been a real “Apple TV”

Of course there is so much extra memory. That will be used in unannounced upcoming features for the display.

Neat! Now let's jailbreak it.

It makes you wonder, though, what kind of liability it will be in the future when it stops receiving updates. It could do fun things like store persistent malware so you get reinfected even after a clean install of macOS. Or probably something more sinister and interesting that somebody more clever than me could think up. I guess there could be malware specifically targeting the display aspect. Probably to loop Nyan Cat over your menu bar.

It’s always amusing to read comments by people who have never designed anything nor could they yet second guess apples engineers.

And sadly their imaginations are so stunted that they're incapable of coming up with ideas on how a display with a cpu + memory, and tethered to a Mac, could be used for interesting extra features that Apple could introduce to the display in the future.

A monitor comes with 64GB of storage. A freaking monitor

But an Apple TV comes with 32GB as the default. A device used to download apps and games.

Smooth Apple. Smooth. ?‍♂️

It didn't occur to you that Apple might have plans for upcoming features for the display?

Hmmmm....
I know nothing of iOS (don't own any iOS devices), but...

... with 64gb of RAM -AND- an "A13 Bionic" chip inside, could this thing be capable of functioning as "a 27" iPad" ?

Well, obviously there's no touchscreen.
But with a mouse/keyboard, could it become the first "iOS-based Mac" ?

I have a feeling this Studio Display is something else disguised as Display, i mean, it is going expand its functions/role in the ecosystem and so they are charging so much for it.
It could, other that this consider there are so few option and 0 with that quality and features:
Especially the retina part 2x is IMPORTANT

Apple is just rewarding it’s fans with free ram for all of the overcharging over the years.

No, I don't think so.

displayOS?
Maybe control the monitor with hand gestures like Google's Soli and your voice?
I mean, I've seen dumber ****... Just this month... ?

Facebook Portal along with the ability to connect Wifi from your iPad/iPhone. Which begs the question does it have Bluetooth or Wifi for screen sharing?

Otherwise its just the monitor taking some of the processing burden away from the core device.
