My BenQ monitor does this sometimes. I can usually stop it by turning it off and back on again, but it is annoying. Though the BenQ only cost $400…

Disappointing that this buggy overpriced monitor is the replacement for the 27” iMac :(
While I agree its overpriced for consumer use, its probably complete monitor in market for Mac's by far. There is no good alternative in market with this feature set and appeal.

We need to understand this monitor is targeted as Studio display. rather than consumer use.

ASD has unique features no other monitor has like below. Until we have alternative with below features, its wrong to compare. Apple does always its one way i.e Take standard definition of Monitor (and then +++ which are unique).

-True Tone Support
-Wide Angle webcam with Center stage Support
-Best Looks in market
-Best Speaker
-Inbuilt Power supply
-Inbuilt Hub
-Excellent Microphone
-Siri Support
-5K Display ( best 5k panel)

Someone said his monitor makes buzz when he uses hairdryer.

I have zero pity for people who use hairdryers.

1500 watts wasted energy when you can use a towel.

I will fight hairdryer people over that.

I will also fight people who chew gum.

Would love to make the ASD a home office monitor, but it just seems to have so many issues and such a high price that it is hard to justify.

Love the design, and like the webcam location (because then I'm not looking down at my MBP underneath my floating monitor). However, as someone who doesn't really lose a ton of sleep over using a 4k monitor as opposed to 5k (even if yes I do notice just the slightest bit of text edge softness), the cost is just a huge turn off. Moreover, my wife's work from home laptop is an IBM, which won't exactly play nice.

Some upgradability also.

If there really is a full iPhone/iPad inside it.

Then the ACD could get a software update that lets it act as a wireless monitor.

This has to be one of the poorest value, most lackluster Apple products in recent years.
I can't agree because it's been 8 years since the original 5K iMac and there still isn't decent competition to the 5K display at this size and price point. It boggles the mind and is frustrating for us as consumers that no other manufacturer has wanted or been able to compete, but it is what it is.

Maybe they figure it is too niche and not a big differentiator over 4K.

Possibly, or they'd rather focus on developing 8K and skip 5K completely. But those of us who've used 5K displays know there's a difference, so they're probably counting on the majority of people not having used them.

I am so glad I saw this post as the same thing happened to me months ago. Using a Mac Book Pro 16" in a brydge dock connected to two thunderbolt displays and the Mac started making a high pitched tone ONLY when I wanted to go into zoom meetings. Could not find a work-around and ended up just separating Mac from dock and zooming just from Mac. I have tried new sound sources but nothing removes the tone - anyone with further thoughts, much appreciated. Thanks

They seem to focus on gimmicky features (curved, super wide, streaming/TV apps) to differentiate instead of fundamentals (DPI, HDR, nits)

You try drying my partner’s hair with a towel and then come back and then try stand behind that statement.

I love my Apple Studio Display but I am one of the ones effected by the high buzz. I do not hear it all the time. But I do have an electric vehicle, so maybe, as the article suggests, It might occur only when charging my car and using the monitor. I am using the Apple cable provided to connect to my MacBook Pro. Could the type of stand be an issue as well? I have the floating arm.

Any Apple fanboys want to explain this? Saving pennies for shielding just like they did with the flexcable in the Macbook Pro leading to millions of damages.

They probably will update their online manuals stating not the place the screen near electronic devices…oh wait.

Fanboys? Why do you need to refer to people who enjoy using Apple products in such a derogatory manner? That's language I'd expect from high school students.

The Apple Studio Display is well shielded - that case is all metal. I have zero problems with mine and have a houseful of home automation electronics including nearby Lutron Caseta and other dimmers.

Overall I'm very pleased with my Studio Display. I use it everyday for Lightroom processing my photographs.

I have a 5K iMac and a 32" 4K LG w/ my Mac Mini and there certainly is a difference. I definitely prefer the 5K but for $750, I love the added real estate, desk mount swivel stand (included), and a fatter wallet. I just couldn't stomach spending that much on the ASD for essentially the same 5K display I've had for seven years. (Didn't want or need speakers or a fancy but not-so-good webcam) And Apple's approach to monitor stands and the steep price added for something capable just sours me on a brand I've mostly loved since 1990. That said, I'm looking forward to Apple and/or others getting the production and price point for 5K down a bit. It'll happen, but it's sure taking a long time!

Or you could get a WiFi/bluetooth controlled plug as a workaround.

Nah, no thanks. I already paid Apple $2000. For that price, it should not only be the most beautiful seamless experience you can have with a display, it should surprise and delight, not make you run through hoops and workarounds and ruin your flow when things erratically break at the worst possible times.

I got my money back after 6 months of disappointing performance and buyer's regret. Relieved.
