I am glad the Studio Display seems to have actually launched the 5K monitor market. As of yet, the current new models from other companies do not seem to hold a candle to the SD, but competition is always a good thing.
Competition is great. 5K display space needs it. Wonder how big the market really is however. But still.

Curious to see how Samsung positions their 5K. Not a likely buyer at all - love my multiple ASD set up and I can't imagine how it would make sense to replace one of them with the Samsung. But I am interested to see how they attack the market.

I am more interested to see the Dell 6K launch. I'll admit that has my attention. Replacing my middle ASD with a 32" 6K sure sounds pretty sweet. Not willing to pay $6K for an XDR right now - hard to justify another 60 hz monitor. If the Dell is smoother, priced "reasonably" and works fairly well with my Studio I might buy it.

Of course the rumored Apple promotion, mini-LED monitor is on my mind as well!

The webcam bulge on the Dell 6K is a deal-breaker for me.

Yeah. Brightness might be the only concern:

  • Brightness (typ.)
    250 nits
  • Brightness (peak)(HDR)
    400 nits
I recently got this monitor at work and at least to my eyes, the monitor is very bright. You could buy it and test it out. If it isn't to your liking, return it within the return window.

2nd day with the base Apple Studio Display (and a temporary M1 Mac mini until I receive the M2 Pro Mac mini). Definitely much nicer display than my previous iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, Late 2015). One reason I ordered this setup rather than an M1 24" iMac is that I can't stand its pastel chin. Very impressed by the colours, brightness and the loudspeakers. For work I hook it up to a Lenovo Thinkpad, using the same (short) cable the ASD came with (although I can only get 4K resolution).

Very happy with my decision to buy it.

YAY! And CONGRATS! Can't wait to get mine next month. I plan on saving a few bucks and getting a refurbished model. Hope everything is ok with it though.

Seems like I'll either go with a refurb Studio Display (leaning towards VESA mount) or hold out for the Samsung Viewfinity S9 pricing and reviews to see how it compares.

Picked up an open box ASD for $1100 at a local Micro Center over the weekend. Build quality is typical Apple, the display is beautiful, the speakers are really damn good and all the keyboard controls work as they should. My only real gripe is the camera... it is awful. I knew this going in and I don't need a camera anyway, but it really is awful. If the monitor was $500-700 I wouldn't have any right to complain about the camera. But for $1,500 it should have come with a MUCH better camera. I was waiting for someone to buy it and return it so I could get one at a nice discount, at $1,100 it is a great deal. I couldn't justify $1500+ tax for it though, at full price it is way too expensive.

Dumb question: To anyone using this with Webex/Teams, are there echo issues with the speakers picking up the mic? My 2013 iMac isn't usable without headphones on conf calls because the echo that gets picked up due to the mic/speaker placement on it.

Works okay with Teams (I mean as much as anything on Mac works well with MSFT).

I have used the ASD on both zoom and MS Teams and there was no issues with either one.

Is there a good accessory that clamps to the side or bottom expand the ports and potentially have an SD reader access from the front of the monitor?

I saw the Satechi USB-C one for the iMacs but nothing specifically for the Studio Display.

I got one from Anker for the iMac but pretty sure it would fit the ASD also. There is a screw in the back of the Anker that allows for varying thicknesses.

Also what is the going rate for an apple studio display with adjustable height? I’m wanting to get the one that is VESA comparable rather than on a stand.
