That is in fact the Pro Display XDR wallpaper/screensaver. Not sure why they put it in the ASD box, though.

Okay, I'm not figuring out how to get the actual png. It only allows me to save a ".webp" graphic???

After three days of use, I am very pleased with the Studio Display nano tilt. Coming from a 2011 iMac, this is a world of difference. The colors are beautiful, everything is razor sharp, and the speakers are powerful. Watching a video of my late cat brought him back just as lifelike.

The Studio Display is paired with a MacBook Air M1 in clamshell mode and everything works perfectly right out of the box. I feared missing the convenience of the iMac, but the external magic keyboard with TouchID makes the experience identical: one press on the TouchID button and the Macbook and display come to life.

In the late afternoon, the sun is shining from behind me over my left shoulder onto my screen. I had planned yesterday to test what the effect would be now with the nano version. However, the sun had already passed that point when it dawned on me that I hadn't noticed the light at all!
The True Tone and dark mode also make a darn big difference when working in a dark room. This screen is so kind to your eyes. I am very satisfied!

Yes the webcam is terrible, but it's even worse under Zoom.

The video is hugely laggy for up to a minute, and then just freezes. Only way to restart it is switch the video off and on in the Zoom client.

I've got a Logitech Streamcam plugged into the ASD and it works fine (although video quality isn't great on that either). Mac Studio M1 Max, and it's not working too hard. Latest Zoom client but I haven't switched to the MacOS Beta to get the new ASD Firmware.

A quick Google shows there are a few others reporting this, but no apparent resolution. Anyone here experienced this yet?

I use Zoom all day with my ASD’s web cam and haven’t run into this. The IT department at work said there was a conflict they were tracking with Chrome and Zoom running at the same time. It sounds like what you're dealing with is similar - worth a shot if you use Chrome.

On my zoom meetings the ASD cam actually got slightly better reviews than my Logitech 1080P webcam did.

Nope, Firefox user here. Even after a reboot with almost nothing running. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll keep looking at it.

First time I used Zoom with the ASD cam, it caused the ASD to start glitching and then crash. That was before the last firmware update so it might have fixed it. I typically use an external camera but if the next firmware update fixes the camera, I will likely use the ASD camera sometimes. I've had to power cycle both ASDs due to audio from the displays glitching in Zoom and Chrome.

I think more engineers worked on the Studio Box than the actual display. I needed to break the box down for recycling and had to call iFixit for help in disassembly. Halfway through I wished that I just kept it and didn't start this adventure. Apple definitely used premium grade cardboard and super glue.

I had the same issue, and got it exchanged. The new one still exhibit some yellowish tint compare to my MBP14, but much better than the first one
How long did u get the replacement? Returned mine 10 days ago, still showing processing and have estimate delivery between 23/06 - 08/07 ?

Question for owners: has anyone used the ASD with a PC? I am looking at upgrading my monitors and one is for my work PC, the other is for my mac but I would love for them to match. However if it’s not a good fit with a PC I would pass.

For work I use a Lenovo X1 and connect via USB C (can also do HDMI).

Any feedback is much appreciated so thanks in advance.

I don't have a PC, but I've seen videos online YouTubers connect ASD to a PC. And they claim the display, speaker and webcam works, though, some specific features like CenterStage doesn't.

Is your Lenovo X1 USB-C a Thunderbolt bolt? I don't think ASD works with a USB-C port without Thunderbolt, at least it doesn't work with my iPad Pro 3rd gen(USB-C no Thunderbolt).

Edit: Actually that’s a lie, my 3rd gen iPad Pro does work with the ASD, just tried it. So your Lenovo might work even without Thunderbolt.

Should work fine with a Gen9 Carbon.

I've used mine with 3 PCs:
  • Framework laptop - works @ 5K resolution via USB-C
  • Microsoft Surface Go 2 - works @ 4K resolution
  • DIY AMD-based SFF PC with Thunderbolt 3. Should get 4K but the best I can do is 2560x1440

It does. I've used it with my Surface Go 2 @4K.

I can also get 5K from the Valve Steam Deck. You don't need Thunderbolt, just DSC via DP into USB-C.

Works with an HP Elitebook via the thunderbolt connector at resolution 5120x2880. Speakers, mic and webcam work fine. Only thing is that the brightness is not adjustable via the slider in the display settings (but haven’t searched for a solution yet).

Uneven backlight? I've had my ASD since launch date and I'm not expecting perfect or even very good blacks since it's not using local dimming at all as far as I can tell (edge lit?) but I expected it to at least be more uniform.

The bottom right and top left corners are particulary brighter than the rest, especially noticable on dark backgrounds. I guess I'm used to superb local dimming on my TV that's a few years old (Sony 75Z9D) and excellent uniformity. I've had plenty of iMacs and Apple monitors in the past where this has not bothered me so I wonder if I got a dud.

Should I accept this? Is it common for the Apple Studio Display?
Hi, I've had the Studio Display for about a month now and I have to say that overall it's a great monitor. I have never had 5k monitors, this is the first. I've always used my Macbook Pro 16 at the end of 2019 and have always enjoyed it.

What still does not convince me of this monitor is the uniformity of the panel. I have no terms of comparison with other displays, so I don't know if this is a real problem or considered normal, but I can perceive spots when working with full-screen colors. Only when I work with 100% brightness they are not perceived but you cannot work at maximum, they burn my eyes.

is everything normal? is my display faulty?

I'm posting some comparison photos with my Macbook pro!
They were shot with a display brightness not at 100% but at about 50/60%.

when you have to connect the Mac Studio do you have to manually insert the cable to the Dock and disconnect the Macbook?

I do not use the dock with the ASDs and Mac Studio. My ASDs are plugged directly into my Mac Studio TB4 ports. The dock serves as a Mac Studio hub for my G-Drives and USB-A hubs. I did this just to show that the Satechi Thunderbolt 4 Dock can handle dual ASDs at full 5K Retina when used with a MBP M1 Pro or M1 max. But to your question, if you want to switch between the Mac Studio and a MBP M1 Pro/Max then you have to manually unplug/plug computers to the dock as the dock has a single downstream TB4 port.
