Out or curiosity, what convineced you to purchase apple care plus for the monitor?

From what I gather, the additional warranty is only for 1 additional year and it sits mostly on your desk so the risk of damaging it is low. I'm ordering mine so I want to see the reasons why others would want it, thanks.
I added the AppleCare+ yearly plan to mine for a couple of reasons -
First - I don't trust my cats that sometimes get on my desk when I'm not looking, even though they should know better.
Second - I like to have the accident protection on devices that I have financed until they are paid off. I put mine on my Apple Card and don't want to be paying off on a broken device that is too expensive to repair. It's like all insurance really; something you pay for and hope you don't need to use it.

Plus it having multiple components internally and a non-user removable power cable and its cost being comparable to Macs, it only makes sense.

Got lucky yesterday and got the single tilt/height standard ASD at Apple Century City.

Thanks to the team running the stock Discord, I was able to pick it up within 30 minutes. Turns out someone had returned it, new in box.
What Discord server were you following?

Just discovered no sound after sleep. Had to reboot the computer, I also rebooted the monitor. Back to normal.

I upgraded to the new Studio Display firmware yesterday, not sure if it's related.

I had an issue with sound randomly stopping until I pulled the power plug on the monitor as well, although this was the previous firmware version.

This is the one I had been waiting for.

I had repeatedly questioned whether it was right to wait for a height adjustable display, and the resounding answer is 'yes'. I'm 6'3 and have never had a display that met me at eye level.

I'm thrilled with the clarity of the standard glass, and the adjustable height makes a ton of difference for me.

There's also something to be said for how handsome this display is. It's an object that you look at every day and frankly, I'm OK paying a premium for the great looking base versus something ugly and plastic. Single cable to power my MacBook Air M1. Massive workspace. Massive retina screen. Crisp text. I love it!

Yes, it sucks that we don't have other options on the market, but for what's available, I'll take it.

My advice is: if you're waiting for the tilt/height, it's worth it.

10/10 would recommend.

Congrats. Which Macbook Pro stand are you using? The lamp in the last pic looks cool too.

My display has been perfect since I bought it on launch day. A few days after installing the 15.5 update it will power on but all ports are dead :( Taking it in to apple on Wednesday. Hope it doesn’t take too long to fix. Has anybody else had this issue?

Just checked mine with the 15.5 update and my ports are okay. Hope yours gets fixed quickly.

Thanks :) I am a little worried they won't have spare parts for them considering they are so new.

When I was speaking with tech support on the phone and I was telling her it wasn't detecting my macbook pro she goes to me use one of the other ports. As I said to her there is only 1 Thunderbolt port on the monitor. You would think tech support would know this but obviously not.

That’s hilarious that the tech support wouldn’t know.
Also, considering that mine still hasn’t arrived (ordered on day 1), I really hope that yours can be fixed on site, so that you don’t have to wait 3 months for a replacement ??

Does the screen itself get warm when it's on for a few hours?

Didn't really get any answer to this, besides a "that's normal".
Now I finally had a chance to check for myself in an Apple Store. The answer is a clear no. It's not nearly as warm (or even hot) as the Dell U2711 I'm currently using. It feels like the Dell is heating my room, so the Studio Display would be a big improvement on that front too.

Yup can confirm the dell monitors create loads of heat

I'm a nano ASD owner from day one of launch. My love of this display has only grown over time. I went to my local Apple store last week and saw the standard ASD and I have zero regrets. The softer nano texts doesn't bother me one bit and I don't think I'll ever go glossy again as I can't stand any kind of glare.

I do wish I had purchased a matte 27" display at the same time and could have compared them. Is the ASD worth $2,000 once you factor in state tax? I don't know honestly.

(Also had to reset the display a month ago due to some funky wake actions. Unplugging the display to do so is a inelegant solution by Apple.)

I'd warn anyone who's on the MacOS beta track to either get off it or go out of your way to _not_ run Studio Display updates.

Twice now I've seen new versions of the firmware fail on the update, leaving a mostly-empty screen and a useless support URL. Had to unplug the laptop and screen for several hours and come back later before the update would finally take.

I've had the display for about a month now. When I first got it I could hardly hear the fans. Since updating to 15.5, the fans get extremely noisy at random times. Even when the display is sleeping it starts to act up. Never had this issue before 15.5

its connected to a studio btw.

I'm out of my return period so this is extremely fustrating
Sounds like a software update caused the problem, therefore another software update can fix it; I wouldn't be so quick to send my new ASD back to Apple. (maybe they transferred the original camera guy to the 15.5 team?) ?

I've had this display for almost a week and have mostly positive opinions about it.First of all the build quality is first class and on parr with the Pro Display XDR the height adjustable stand(my version)is so effortless you can raise and lower the display with one finger yet it doesn't wobble or move from your chosen position. The brightness, sharpness and colour reproduction matches and in some ways exceeds the Pro Display XDR when fed SDR content. The biggest drawback is the black level which IMHO is poor even by edge lit LCD standards and while it looks fine during the day it can look severely washed out in the low light of evening so it's for this reason I am going to return this display and wait for the Mini LED version.

Where's that wallpaper from?

If someone is interested I wrote a simply post about some Lesser-known features of the Apple Studio Display. Hope can help someone.

Thanks for the detail about the monitor not supporting an external thunderbolt drive

What's weird is that it worked before the latest software update. I have my Thunderbolt drive attached to my Studio Display that I use for Time Machine backups. This is the drive I have that I bought from the Apple Store:

G-TECH G-DRIVE DESKTOP HD THNDRBLT 3-CAF

It stopped working after the latest update but if I plug it directly into the Macbook it works.

It’s connecting at a much slower usb-c speed.

The display only has 1 thunderbolt port, and that is used by the computer.

Seems like a waste of money to use thunderbolt for time machine backups and connect it to a slow port, but speed doesn’t matter for backups.

I got mine yesterday. Standard glass and stand. So far I am very pleased with it. Display seems to be the same as in my 2019 27' iMac. So the best 5k display I saw so far. Build quality is extremly good.

Speakers are very good for build in display speakers. You can't compare it to an external sound system of course. But the sound quality should be more than enough for the most.

Not tested too much, but the camera is really not so bad as most people say. No it is not as good as the iPhone front camera. But for now I don't see any difference to the camera of my 2021 M1 MacBook Pro which I use for work.
Not tested the mic yet. Next week I am back at work and will stress test the cam and the mic with MS Teams calls. Let's see how this will work.

I had a huge shockmoment after 10 Minutes of use though. After setting the screen up I decided to make a software update to the display immediately. At this time the display was connected to my private iMac. After rebooting my mac the update stuck in a loop. Always got an error message with the URL support.apple.com/displays/restore
Followed all the steps, nothing worked.

But well... I have a special setup. I need the display to work with 2 macs. During workdays with the 2021 M1 MacBook Pro, privatly with my 2019 iMac. The easiest and cheapest solution here is to use an USB4 extension cable on my iMac, so I don't have to unplug the cable at the back of m iMac. This works very well in normal use without any hassle.

But it doesn't work for an update! After connecting the iMac directly with the screen, the update worked immediately. Phew.

You're right! I unplugged it recently and didn't put the cable in the USB port.

Had the exact same thing happen to me. I love my Studio Display overall but this was a terrible first impression.
