Ok so after a few days of usage, I think this discoloration is just the glass coating, it disappears with viewing angles, so I think it doesn’t have to do anything with the backlight. I also read in an other thread that the SD has a green or purple glass coating to it!

Do you guys notice anything like this on your SD? When viewed at a certain angle, or even when faced front, a slight change of hue on the display?
I am not noticing that much discoloration issue from my ASD (or I may not be that sensitive in color perception tho). But for the larger inch screens that is >27inch, the screen size is large enough to see such angle dependent color shift (even at a usual viewing distance).
But it is also true that certain display can suffer tint gradient such that left side has red tint and the right side has green tint (reported by many from LG nano IPS panel monitors including 32UL950). But it doesn't seem to be your case.

Can't say I have noticed anything like this.

Thank you for your response! Yeah it is strange, if I move further back, and increase the brightness, I don't notice anything, only when viewing it a bit closer, and only on bright/white background. I also checked a few in stores and some had these red tint others had a dirty screen effect. Most new MBP 14 and 16 have the red or green tint, also most OLED panels have these kind of tinting too, I guess it could be the antireflective coating on them as well. It might be just a matter of lottery how visible is the tinting on the glass.

yeah at a closer distance it tends to exaggerate angle difference. I wouldn't mind if you don't see such at a usual distance of your desktop setting and brightness.

How do the fans behave in the Studio Display?
On, 24x7 when plugged into a Mac... they aren't loud, and I've never noticed them spin up faster/slower, it's just a constant 'flow of air' as best I can describe it.

I've logged a case with Apple, as I don't believe they should run... when my attached MacBook is asleep.... seems wrong.

THat’s interesting…potentially the internal power supply needs to be cooled bc the MacBook is still charged in sleep mode? seems like a design flaw to me.

Well now officially a participant in this thread!! ASD was delivered today, nano height and tilt adjustable. So far it's great, easy set up and the Apple packaging was fantastic as usual. Really well packed but they made it easy to get it all opened!! So far I like the nano screen in my bright workspace.

It's also interesting that my Mac Studio fans do not run when it's sleeping, and that's the only time the computer's case gets a tiny bit warm from the power supply. As soon as it wakes, the fans spin up and cool it down.

anyone else having issues with display flickering/glitching?

when I plugged it in the first it was not turning on but it was detecting the display as I could remove into the Mac and it even had the 15.5 firmware update available, I updated it blindly and still nothing. randomly it appeared to turn on and then constantly glitched/flickered and for some periods of time it will be fine then randomly glitch.

UPS dropped off the display by the front door around 6-ish. The box is bigger than I thought and rival the 5K iMac. The 1-meter Thunderbolt cable is indeed quite short, I couldn't get it thought the cable managing hole and connect to the 5K iMac on the right side. Updated the 15.5 firmware was effortless.

The sound is louder than the iMac speakers even on level 1. Without True Tone (2020 5K iMac) and auto brightness enabled (both), the Studio Display was slightly dimmer than the iMac.

Same here, had the Studio Display plugged into a CalDigit TS3+ and could not successfully complete the update until I plugged it directly into a Mac.

EDIT: Actually it doesn't look like it actually worked so seems TS4 has the same issue.

I think they’ve made these Studio Displays purposely in this size so we should want to buy more of them.
They are both small and also have enough real estates to be satisfactory as an alone display to the Mac Studio. Comparing to the old 27” iMac that many of us might have had.
But they are also small enough for many of us to want a 2nd display. Most desks have probably space for it, if we earlier had the above mentioned iMac.
I love my new set up, and my new Apple’s on my desk ♥️✨
Some complain of noise, I only hear silence. I can definitely meditate in the same room as this now.

I have SO been waiting for these stuff this last year, after trying to make things work with mentioned old dinosaur iMac until Apple released something new that could fill my needs.
I didn’t see the 24" iMac as an option at all.
Bur there’s certainly space for another ASD on my desk.
Great business for Apple ?

After using the ASD about a week now for work I have to say: I am VERY pleased with it.

The display, the build quality - both are great. I also really like the speakers. And for me the display is absolutely silent.

And... yes, the webcam is very good for my use. My use is MS Teams. I daily have Teams Meetings with cam. Had a call with 2 of my co-workers today. One on a M1 Macbook Air the other on a Surface laptop. I asked them, how my picture is. One said "high class!" the other said "your background blur is so much nicer than then blur of MS Teams" (using the portrait mode of the studio, no center stage). :D After all this horrible stories about the cam I am really pleased with the reaction.

I am also using no headphones only the mic and speakers of the ASD. And both is great. I hear everyone perfectly clear and they do hear me perfectly clear.

Using the display for work with my M1 MacBook Pro and private with my 2019 iMac. Both works absolutely flawless.

Just got my standard with height and tilt and I'm very happy. I knew what I was getting coming from a 5k iMac and after using a lower density display (34" 1440 ultra wide) for the last couple of months (while I waited for delivery) it feels like an entirely new display.

The other thing I'm really happy about is that with height adjustable I can fit my 15" MacBook Pro I have for under it when it's at its highest position. I like that position better then to the side.

Finally set up the Studio Display with my stand alone VESA mount and it worked better than expected. The text is obviously sharper with good colors, although my LG Colorprime had good colors since it's 99% Adobe RGB, which the Dell 27 U2719D, which I had lacked in color accuracy. the 2M Thunderbolt Cable was enough to get to my Caldigit Thunderbolt 3 dock.

I opted for the VESA mount since it's a cheaper alternative to getting the height adjustable one, which for $400 Is overpriced. Yes, the VESA adapter covers the Apple Logo, but I don't care about atheistic as the back faces the window, which had shades. Nobody is going to see it. The mount I went with is the Gabor DMS-200, which supports the weight of this display, although it makes it look like a generic monitor. I don't really care about looks, but functionality

Also, if you are wondering, I have the Studio Display hooked directly to the dock with the LG Colorprime 27" via Display port. The Studio Display shows with full 5K resolution, which the LG Ultrafine 5K can't do, not even the latest model. So, you can probably get a Thunderbolt 4 hub or dock and connect two of these and still have a one cable solution.

None of my previous displays come with VESA screws (all of them LG). VESA 100 uses M4 as standard thread. My Ergotron LX mounts come with M4 Quick Release screws so I don't need any screws. I might use the Ergotron Quick Release LCD bracket instead as I have a pair brand new never used. But thanks for the tip.

Home Depot has some nice M4 Black Allen screws that work well. That is what I used

I’m using the quick release ones that came with the Ergotron LX Mount. They are M4 which is the standard for VESA 100.

I am using a cheap Amazon mount that I have mounted in a hole in my desk, a clamp mount will not work for me. I also have a “shelf” for my laptop as a second monitor. I do like those thumb screws. I have to see if Ergotron makes a mount that would work in a desk hole.

Both the Ergotron LX and HX come with a grommet hole clamping system (along with a C clamp), as does the Amazon Basics Monitor Arm - which is essentially an unbranded Ergotron LX at 60% of the price. They all come with the quick removal screws above.

Thanks Dan. I also need zero clearance on the part below the desk as it is over a drawer. Let me take a look at those - thanks for the info. I will let you know if I can’t find what I am looking for - really appreciate your help!

I need one that is capable to have two arms for a laptop tray, the basics one will not work.
