when you say you can't do duals in landscape, a technical limitation or you don't like it? I'm coming from a 49" dell and finding 2*27" studio displays hard to get used to in landscape :( I was wondering if one in portrait would work but I can't really think of what would work better in portrait mode
Space limitation but after setting up one in portrait mode and getting used to it, I can’t imaging myself going back to two displays in landscape mode.

Hi I recently purchased TWO new Apple Studio Displays to use for work. My work laptop is a 2020 MacBook Air M1 (iOS Monterey). I was previously using two Acer curve monitors with the HyperDrive 3-in-1 HDMI adapter on my MBA with no issues.

I know the Studio Display just was released in March and I am wondering has anyone figured out a work around for a MBA M1 dual display using the Studio Displays yet?

There is no workaround other than using something like Displaylink, and I have no idea if that method will support 5K displays.
I have came across DisplayLink. The problem I am running into is finding a thunderbolt docking station compatible with DisplayLink while at the same time compatible with (display only) thunderbolt ports.

Need a bit of talking down here - about to press the button on a Mac Studio to pair with my Studio display. I previously had a Mini M1 but got annoyed with the bluetooth connectivity issues to peripherals and rage sold it. My MacBook Pro 16 2021 sits behind it on a small desk in our main living space, and it is an amazing combo - couldn't be happier with the performance. However, I'm getting annoyed with the 12 South curve thing as they still haven't released the proper rubber insert. My other wise lovely teenagers keep taking the MBP when I'm out despite being warned not to, and I come home to it sitting misaligned in the stand. It'll get scratched I'm sure of it. Any thoughts? Quite like the idea of having my MBP all to myself and a Studio desktop as the family computer AND my static workstation at this gorgeous 5K display....hate myself!

Sorry, I can't convince you to not order it. I just moved from a Mac mini M1 16GB/2TB to a Mac Studio M1 Max 64GB/2TB and couldn't be happier. I can hear a slight fan noise with it (whirring), but the speed increase is immense if you're doing CPU or memory intensive tasks.

I feel like you and I may be quite alike 😂 I have the 16” as well and very nearly bought a studio in addition, and only didn’t because I was slightly concerned by reports of loud fans.

Much appreciated - ordered! Also got sick of the caps lock being on at sign in - my son had closed the MBP and plugged in to the display so I had to disconnect, open and physically hit the shift lock on the MBP keyboard then reconnect before I could log in with the Magic Keyboard. I can also tell my wife I’ve decided not to sell the Mac Mini and am using it again :p

Great! Your post has got me pricing up a studio now. I really must resist.

So right now I have just the thunderbolt cable hooked up to my MBP, harddrives and the monitor work fine through the single connection.

I'd like to keep it all one cable and wonder if anyone here can recommend an affordable USB-C hub that can make it so that I can also plug in an audio cable (with the hub being behind the monitor) when I want to listen to headphones through my amp.

An USB-C hub won’t do it. You need a Thunderbolt 4 Dock for the ASD to work at full 5K Retina resolution. I would recommend the Satechi or the OWC Thunderbolt 4 Dock. I personally own the Satechi TB4 Dock and it works perfectly fine with my 14” MBP M1 Pro and my pair of ASDs.

Can I use the Satechi if I want to connect a MacBook Pro M1 and MacBook Air M1 to the same ASD and switch between the two MacBooks without any physical cable swapping? I only need a single MacBook to be displayed on the ASD at any point in time.

But it looks the Satechi is sold out???

How fast does it turn on when paired with an M1 MacBook Pro in clamshell mode paired with the Touch ID magic keyboard? Is there a delay?

For that you would need a Thunderbolt 4 Dock with dual TB4 upstream ports and that doesn’t exist yet. You would need to swap TB4 cables. The easiest way is with a magnetic TB4 adapter like the one I have in my Satechi TB4 Dock:

There are two KVMs that look promising but are not sold directly to end users yet.

SI-452TB4 Thunderbolt 4 KVM

Rextron PAAG-ET3122B DisplayPort 1.4 KVM

I have reached out to both companies and the rextron is being sold by a US distributor but is sold out at the moment.

Rextron also said they are looking into designing a TB4 KVM and are optimistic about it.

SSI is looking for a Company to do an OEM on their TB4 KVM.

Given the SD is $1599, if apple were to bring out a Pro version with mini led and 120hz etc do you think the price of that would be around the same as the Pro Display XDR?

I'm trying to weigh up between buying the studio display now or waiting to see if they ever announce a pro model wishing that it would be around the $2.5k-$3k mark. Wishful thinking I know

I'm having an incredibly annoying issue where about 50% of the time my ASD refuses to "wake up" when I reconnect my Macbook to it. I have to power off/on the Macbook or restart the Macbook for the ASD to finally decide it's going work as expected again.

To all ASD owners: How did you make up your mind about going standard or nano glass? I recently tested the ASD in the store but did never see a nano in the wild.

Have only used matte displays in laptops so far, so I’m afraid the glossy finish could be distracting.

I have both standard and nano. I use the nano monitor at my office where glare is a real issue (windows on all sides of monitor). I don't find it distracting and really appreciate how it does not reflect surroundings. If you don't think glare is an issue, I'd recommend sticking with the standard.

still waiting on mine to ship (hopefully this week or so!) but I read too many things about how the picture and text are less sharp/clear on nano. have seen one in a store afterwards and did not like it. seems to largely come down to your environment needs; I never had a huge problem with glare on my iMac even when the blinds are up and near a window, and when I'm designing/reading I want everything very crisp

Same for me. My iMac was used next to a window and now I'm using my studio display next to the window. Not an issue at all with the standard glass.

Just cancelled my order and re-bought through the education store; my son will be happy and it was $100 cheaper.

Had my computer a long time close to windows and the balcony. If the brightness of the sun is too much.
It's easily adjusted with taking down the blinds to the preferred level.
Standard ASD works great for me. Glossy would not be my thing.
