I just looked and up through 3 they were via Wear. Yet my Garmin is supported on all. Oh, and outside the iOS world, Samsung watches pretty much work on all other Android OEM’s. So I would have to say your assumption is a bit off.
so an Android company makes a watch that works on ... other Android phones.
whodathought?

the fact Samsung actively chose not to support iOS...

i would say your argument starts to fall apart too :)

another day and waking up to the same same...

could someone please, please!!!, convince people that SMS and MMS are very old standards that have limits set outside Apple as the standard for communicating between all devices? And carriers compress their videos and images and not even consistently between carriers before these files reach an Apple device...

RCS has it's own set of non-standard standards. hence carriers dragged their heels to implement it.

how are they strangling non iPhones? it has been pointed out to you, repeatedly, that Apple uses its own servers to send large files that SMS and MMS cant handle to other Apple users. That's added functionality. Not strangling. You need an Apple ID to make this work. The fact it is handled seemlessly inside Messages, just like multiple small SMSes are grouped and presented nicely, is a function of the app overcoming technology limits.

On the same page now?

I dont think I can bear repeating this again to you...

Because Android users can't do basic communication like send usable pictures/videos or properly function in group chats. It's not rocket science, it's obvious that Apple could open this up for everyone but they don't to keep Apple users on Apple hardware and Android users switching to Apple hardware. IMO it's a concrete and conscious decision by Apple brass that's borne out by the comments which came out in the Epic case. I totally understand your take on it and the point you are making, I just think where we differ are Apple's motivations. Whether they have a responsibility to open this up in the name of fairness, or if they can keep it as their business model is exactly what the antitrust suit is about. Again, I'm not judging ethically or legally here, that's just the way the US DOJ sees it.

They can do all that using 3rd party apps such as whatsapp, signal, telegram, etc. Only in the USA it is a problem for android users that imessage is limited to apple users because most american iphone users won’t use anything but what’s built into their iphones. In the rest of the world, apple users and android users are happy using whatsapp, etc to chat and nobody cares if apple doesn’t open up imessage.

you have said it yourself ... Apple could open this up to all users...

Apple are under no compunction to create anything other OSes.
As other OSes are under no obligation to create stuff for iOS.

Apple even releases new phones with USB C plugs that operate at 2.0 data transfer speeds.
it differentiates a regular and a pro device.

Group chats work exactly as the base comms methods of SMS and MMS allow.

How many times have i already told you this? too many...

The carriers are compressing the files to reduce the data they have to transmit.
I have told you this. Many times too.

But you keep blaming Apple. It simply is not Apple's fault in this case.

There are many many standards, Things evolve.

But you can still buy slow but usable USB 2.0 memory keys.
By your reasoning they should all be USB 3.2 and keep updating.
some new bluetooth devices still only support 4.0 - surely it should be 5.2 by now...
devices choose what codecs they support. soundbars all have computing power to handle surround but some choose Dolby Atmos, some choose DTS X. some neither.

the list goes on and on.
there is no one forcing manufacturers to support new standards.
customers decide if they are ok when buying.

iPhone users seen happy enough which suits Apple, their target audience.
and Android users continue to switch.
you and DoJ call it trapped. the rest of us call it satisfied. :)

and if Apple dont keep satisfying us, there are plenty of alternatives and easy ways to switch platforms quickly and easily.

i escaped Spotify, used a $4.50 app to move 99% of my 16000 song playlists, to Apple Music.
30 minutes later i have better sound quality and no more whinging Spotify.

You do understand why Sammy dropped iOS support. It wasn’t because of the watch.
oh i understand exactly why.

but the end result is they chose to not work things through with Apple on private APIs.
and took the easy way out and basically said Apple are too hard to deal with.

cmon, Apple is a big customer buying components from Samsung.
the recent EU outcome has shown Apple are willing to work on a case-by-case basis with devs.

Sammy Watches are awful anyway - even if they could play nicer with Apple phones.
Awful for looking information like messages and images. Round format just doesnt work well. They dont sell that well either as there's always a 30% off sale or free ear buds a couple months after launch. I never see people wearing them.

No, they're not. They're just forced to. That's the same if you say "People in Russia are happy about their government, otherwise they would just protest.".
People in Russia are much more conceptually powerful than people in US. When Biden says something like "I will not back down from Russia/Putin." he is essentially acknowledging conceptual power of the Russian people which he of course personifies with Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin.

And Epic lost more than it gained. They lost ALL of their Apple users. Not many devs are willing to take that chance.
That goes to show how attractive Apple's cut is.

Now that there's a legal way to do it, makes it even more likely.

Not in the US, it's not reasonable to expect users to switch all of their contacts to 3rd party apps. For myself that's hundreds of business, personal, friends, family, establishments, etc contacts and to try to force them to use a 3rd party app, and which of those multiple apps they would use, then have them monitor which app each contact uses is needlessly burdensome and impossible. That argument just does NOT work in the US where text messaging evolved very differently.

Here is where the disconnect lies, I'm not "blaming" Apple, I'm saying that it's a business strategy that they use. Where have I said that they should be forced to open iMessages up? Where have I said that I agree with the DOJ? You keep missing my point.

I'm not blaming Apple you say but previously wrote
"Apple strangles messaging for non iOS users communicating with iOS users by keeping certain features only on its platform. I'm NOT opining on whether they are entitled to do that or not, whether ethically or legally, simply that they do exactly this."

you full on claim Apple is strangling messages.

no one is forced to use 2024 standards. no one. look at USB standards. look at video/audio codecs that players choose to implement or not.

Apple provides a phone that allows SMS and MMS as fall back comm methods on Android devices.

Perhaps those in your group who see your low res image or video can ask you to email file or link to Google drive version of it or use another app. That would solve your problem. And requires Apple to do nothing.

Yes Apple is strangling messages, no I'm not blaming them of being in conflict with anti trust laws, both my personal opinions. Clear?

This is just my personal opinion (same as you using your opinion) but I feel SMS/MMS shouldn't be classified as the most basic form of communication in 2024, but I've said this before numerous times. Just as USB standards are updated, just as the FCC has steadily increased required minimums for internet bandwidth, etc, etc, messaging on smartphones should also be updated as technology improves.

We do agree on something, conceptually powerful. You just "elected" the 2nd coming of Hitler. An opposition leader died while on a "walk". You have all the freedoms, that Vlad lets you have.

Free. I’d rather they just added RCS and help establish a base encryption standard.
How many times has it been discussed that RCS support is coming later this year. Whom do you expect Apple to work with to establish this new encryption standard?

fortunately both your opinion and mine dont determine what standards are used and implemented.

the OS authors decide what and how they will implement.

USB standards are updated but they still allow products using the old standards given the number of over priced USB thumb drives in the local supermarket.

Not exactly but that was part of the issue. Doesn’t help when Apple won’t allow access to needed functions but uses them on its watch. Wasn’t just Samsung either.
