Features that have been around for at least the past year or more on smartphones are supposed to get me excited? Yay? And wireless charging isn't really worth it if you have to pay for the wireless charger which we will and Apple will overcharge for it vs competitors as per usually.
I'm honestly more interested in fast charging than wireless charging.

Completely agree. Using an iPad charger on the 7Plus is great at reducing charge time, but I am more interested in faster charging, assuming the battery is not put at risk. Faster charging also usually leads to increased heat, which ultimately degrades.

A rock is truly waterproof.

Lot of "natural bridges" exist like this one created from water eroding rock:

This sounds like a problem waiting to happen. I can see this activity going south in so many ways.
I had to reread the front page to see if it actually said that... There are people that have walked in the rain and have had water damage to their phone. Thats such a stupid risk to take! Unlike the Apple Watch, iPhones is not covered for water damage, so just wow!

Apple is free to price it as it sees fit, but hardware wise the iPhone 8 isn't any great leap over the Galaxy S8 other than the under-glass fingerprint reader that supposedly adds about $20 to the material cost.

Hardware isn't the only reason Apple can charge a premium. Software and functionality are worth a lot more than $20.

Nice to see Apple caught up with Samsung in this regard

Apple is NEVER first to market with any technology. They are the first to perfect it, not the first to invent it.

I'm sure someone waterproofed their phone with a ziplock bag and duct-tape long before Samsung waterproofed their phone. Samsung's version of waterproofing is an improvement, right?

Yeah right. "Waterproof". They say it's waterproof but in the same breath they will say you can't get it wet.

"Nevertheless, many iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus users use their smartphones in the shower, for example, without issue."

Say what? Who uses a phone, ANY phone, in the shower? (OK, the president might reach for his phone during a shower to tweet something).

I mean, I wear my Apple Watch Series 2 in the swimming pool, but Apple designed the thing to be used that way. Water resistance for phones is useful, say, if you're using your phone outside and get caught in a rainstorm, but in the shower?
Well people do say it's as slippery as a bar of soap...so...??????

I once was tempted to take my S8+ with me as I soaked in a bath so I could read a Kindle book I didn't want to put down. But I decided that was being a bit excessively attached to technology and so I decided to read later when I was nice and dry.

I can't say I was ever tempted to take a phone with me into a shower. I would imagine people who do needed to keep track of incoming messages or the time or something very important.

I wish more people understood this. Apple likes to take their time to on features so that's it done right. Other companies like Samsung like to rush features to the market just so they can say THEY DID IT FIRST. That's how you end up with a fingerprint sensor right next to the camera. What a terrible design.

The rumored specs on the iPhone 8 is that it will have half the memory and a .4" smaller usable screen (5.1" with a .7" toolbar on the bottom) than the phone you are comparing it to. You're supposed to get more features for the money as time goes on, not less.

hang on, the Iphone 8 isn't out yet.
But is the galaxy 8 a great leap over even my iPhone 6? Nope..My 6 with iOS 10 is still better than any version of
android, and my 6 has 128gigs without a card and has the fingerprint scanner on the front.
The iPhone8 will be a nice advancement.

Is the current iPhone SE waterproof/resistant? Because if "one" of Apple's next iPhones has waterproofing capabilities, and since the 7's are already "waterproof/resistant," hopefully this means that there is a new SE in the works.

No. But I wouldn't hold my breath. And if they do, they'll likely remove the headphone jack.

Soon to be former Apple supplier, that is.

Yes, will be Hwang out to dry, shortly!

Overall I think Apple kind of has given up on doubling down on secrecy. Too many parts to keep everything totally under wraps.
Then add the stock market, who wants to know. Even TC is breaking down and giving up some info.

all with phone addiction can facebook, skype, etc. even under the shower, or while doing the dishes. congrats!
p.s. do no try it in salty waters.

or maybe they can bath while charging... lighting cool extra feature!
Do you really think products like this are water resistant so you can bathe with it? That's right up there with the stupidest thing I've read today.

I've been biking or hiking in the rain and played music while showering(outside the shower) with all of my iPhones since 2007 and never had damage but taking the iPhone in the
shower seems like an unnecessary risk :)

I suspect the iPhone will be similar to the Apple watch...water resistant to 50m.

Whatever the IP rating, Apple, please don't market it as 'practically magic'.

Just get rid of all the holes in the iPhone. Don't need ports or even speakers. Having a hole in a device is so Q2 2017.

Do you think Apple is going to "perfect" waterproofing or wireless charging? In what way. Maybe you should accept that sometimes Apple is just behind the competition and "perfecting" has nothing to do (but profits do)?
