iOS is OS X, it's just the interface that's different. Since that's the main difference, are you all saying you want drop-down menus, windows with sizable edges and scroll bars on a touch-screen device?

Sounds horrible.

That's not what he meant. Simply being based on the same technology doesn't mean two two operating systems are the same. They don't run each other's apps, so it's not a fair comparison. You might as well lump them both in with Unix. Sure, iOS and Mac OS have a lot in common, but that is largely because they are made by the same company, not due to the low-level programming that they share. My washing machine might use some sort of embedded Linux for its brain, but that doesn't make me a Linux user.

Everyone who just spent hundreds of dollars getting the iPad Air can now face palm themselves. Seriously, Apple releases a new iPhone or any of their other products once a year, so why do they feel the need to release a new iPad every 6 months?

How is a 10" device the same as a 13" device? I wouldn't want a 13" iPad. Nothing portable about it, certainly not ideal for reading. It would serve a specific audience which is probably different than those who bought an Air or a mini.

Ignoring all the naysayers, they're the same people who said Apple would never make an iPad Mini. Supply chain rumours have proved to be remarkably reliable over the past few years.

12.9" iPad Pro is a great idea and I can see a lot of people starting to ditch their laptop for it. The iPad line significantly outsells the MacBook line so it makes perfect sense to expand the iPad range. It would also make a perfect size portable TV and eBook reader for magazines. Hopefully they will release it in April.

iPhone 5C (yeah, that was a success... :roll eyes: ), iPad Mini, iPad Pro, etc....

Cook needs to stop expanding the lineup. Seriously.

The iPad Mini is great, actually. I prefer it over my regular iPad. I don't have an iPad Air, though. I have an iPhone 5c, and it does everything I need it to do... but I can see Apple dumping the "c" models in the future and just keeping the previous model around like they used to do. I am not sure why they dumped the iPhone 5 for the 5c.

The "iPad Pro" has not even been released yet, and it might never see the light of day. Unless Apple creates something a different, I am not sure why an iPad with a really big screen makes sense... unless it comes with a keyboard (like a laptop, not a Surface). Maybe it would bridge the gap between a 13" MacBook Air and an iPad Air. If it could run iOS and OS X apps and be affordable, it could be a hit... who knows. I will believe it when I see it, though.

More yellow screens?

----------

Also, this only works for me if I can run full OS X and put my tablet on a stand when I'm at home and use it with my BT keyboard/mouse as a desktop (well portable) computer. I emailed Tim Cook a long time ago saying if he could get me a 15" "screen" which is essentially a tablet when you want it, and a full computer when you need it, I'd be in. Hopefully this is a good step towards that.

This is what makes me worry. Steve had a clear vision of what he wanted apple to be and that vision is what made apple such an amazing company. Do a few things and do them the best they can. Now we have the mini...the 5c...a rumored "iPad maxi pad". A new larger iPhone. Is apple turning into windows here? What next? Are they going to bring back selling printers too? Cameras? Is the apple store going to look like an office max in 5 years?

I know apple is fine. Shoot. Look at their cash reserves. They'll be fine for the next couple decades at least! But everything they do needs to have purpose and not just "let's change the size and throw it on the market hoping people will buy it". I'm worried Tim cook doesn't have vision. But hey, I'm probably worried over nothing.

Mac mini, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro

iPad mini, iPad Air, iPad pro

Mac mini really doesn't fall into the same category as the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. It is a desktop, so it should be with the Mac Pro. So, by your logic, this is what we should have:

iPad mini, iPad Air, iPad Pro
MacBook mini, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro
Mac mini, Mac Air, Mac Pro

What if the iPad Pro and the MacBook mini where combined into one product? Also, I wonder what a Mac Air would be like! ;) lol

The remark of the analyst citing 30% increase in pixels is hilarious.

It's like saying, the new Tesla will have 30% more wheels.

i was going to buy a iPad air but seems i won't be bothering because i watch a lot of video on my iPad makes more sense to upgrade to the 12.9inch version so glad i have heard of this solid leak i have to find something else i want for xmas instead

Remember, MS is already trying to do this tablet/computer hybrid device. It's not the greatest product in the world, as we all know. I think if anyone can create a hybrid tablet/computer, Apple can do it.

Just imagine, you essentially have this 13" screen with a computer behind it (I'd like 15"). You pick it up with your hands, and boom, it's now an iPad. You place it on a special computer stand (must be special so iPad can tell if it should be in PC mode or tablet mod) and now it's a PC. Just add BT keyboard and mouse.

You have tablets, and you have laptops. This new product could meld the best of both worlds in one device. Include 4G data, and wow if you could get an actual phone antenna in there... imagine THAT device. Price it accordingly so it doesn't cannibalize other products and you have a one-size fits all powerhouse.

What, ditch their laptop to play around with App's, games and watch TV?

I already lose about 2 hours a day productivity with my iPad and iPhone just being in the same room as me :)

Seriously, you cannot lose a laptop if you need to do any real work on the go. Otherwise once you have a keyboard, you have an iPad bigger than the 11" MBA.

iPads out sell laptops because those people did not really need a laptop in the first place. You know the Facebook, Twitter, email, catch-up TV and Angry Birds set.

The same naysayers before the original iPad's debut (who would want a bigger ipod touch?), now have a new target: why would anybody want a bigger iPad?

Just because x inches is good, that doesn't mean x+1 inches must be better for any value of x.

I don't think those naysayers had actually used an iPod touch. I had a touch, and it was immediately obvious that a larger screen version would be useful.

Now I do have an iPad - and its far less clear to me that an even larger one would be a good idea.

Although more screen area sounds nice at first, if you try and imagine what a 13" version would feel like, its probably not going to be as comfortable to support in one hand. Make a tablet too big, so that it needs to be used on a desk and/or with a stand for comfort, and it ceases to be a tablet and becomes a badly designed laptop with no keyboard or touchpad.

Yes, there's a niche for these as Wacom Cintiq alternatives - but I can't see Apple putting this much effort into a niche product.

As others have said - a Macbook Air with Retina display sounds a more likely purpose for these displays.

So you're saying it's not about the underlying technology.

And you're saying it's not about the interface.

So...what the heck does he want, then?

Called it! Looks like saving my money will pay off. :D
You can't call a rumor.
First Apple has to announce a 12.9-inch iPad Pro and than you can call it, "Called it!".
Tbh, the rename of iPad to iPad air should have told us this was coming.
Except nothing is coming. This is just a repetition of an old rumor.
Obviously with the name iPad AIR they were telling everyone an iPad Pro was coming.
Nope. They did tell everybody that the bigger iPad had lost weight. No secret hidden message there.
For a 12.9-Inch iPad Pro, it must be heavy and large. What is the point of using it when I could use the MacBook Air which could run more applications?
There is no point and that's why this rumor will remain a rumor.
iPad Pro will replace Macbook Air.
Yeah, that sounds likely.
