I honestly can't see any argument against having a 4" that makes sense.

And I can't see any argument for a 4" screen that makes sense ;)

I don't know if people here remember when the original iPhone came out, a lot of people criticized it because it was "too big". That because of this it would never succeed in Asian markets because in those markets people wanted smaller phones.

Anyway, I don't know what an iPhone will look like two or three years down the road. I just hope it will be a good product.

I am honestly hopping you are rich enough based on your "insight" not to be posting here in a year.

In all seriousness. I hope you are posting here then. Remember - my statement was the screen would only get bigger if they found a way to prevent fragmentation. So that means if they do find a way, or the screen size stays, I do know the mind of Apple. ;):apple:

btw, everything you listed like "no copy/paste, no multitasking, no MMS". while everyone else was convincing themselves those features were "over rated anyway", I was genuinely pissed about it. But knew that they would all come, in due time.

Really? The Treo was out and popular around that time, that phone was way larger than the first iphone. So was a Blackberry.

Apple, widely known for their stellar design, cannot incorporate a 4" display while maintaining the current width. I've read that the rumors claim the phone will be the same width and 8mm taller. While nothing is impossible, if they keep the current width, it will be one ugly ass phone.

Most high end Androids with 4" displays are 6mm wider than the current 4S. If the new phones display is pushed out to the very sides of the phone the hideous appearance will have a bad effect on Apples image.

Apple has backed itself into a corner like a bully that can't back up his bravado. An out of proportion long & narrow phone will certainly diminish Apples image. Not only will it be ugly and odd, it will be on the small side at 4" as the new sweet spot is between 4.3" & 4.6".

No longer leading. Apple is following and late catching up to the best Samsung has to offer. Times are changing as we find Apple trailing.

Do you enjoy constantly having to eat your words?

The fragmentation already exists. The pixelated example you gave already happened with the ipad. The voice control was available on iphone 3gs and not 3g. There are other examples.

Apple survived.

The fear you have of a four inch screen is all in your head.

People who know things generally put their money where the mouth is. Apparently you didn't.

That's what a company is supposed to do. Make profit. 43% Android users. That's wonderful. Do you think BMW is trying to compete with the Hona Civic because there are more of them on the road? No. They don't care about the Honda Civic. People who want a Honda Civic aren't their market. Their market is people who are willing to pay a premium for a product they recognize as quality. And a large part of that market is the recognition of that quality. As far as what companies measure, and set out to do - money, and making money - Apple is the most successful phone manufacturer in the world. Why would they change their product to try and emulate phones that are less successful?

You've obviously not read the Steve Jobs bio.
He hated android and thought google/android was trying to destroy the iPhone .

He also stated he wanted to crush android.

Apple doesn't care about android ?

Think again.

This is a funny post. I would pick it apart, but all can see just how funny it it is.

Back in October, Marco Arment made a good point about the simplicity and ease of being able to comfortably use a smartphone touchscreen with one hand (and I'm also sure this notion was taken into account for the design of the original iPhone). I thought it was an excellent insight.

However, while I agree with a common sentiment out there that some Android smartphones are (perhaps uncomfortably) like dwarf tablets, I do think that a 4.0" wouldn't be too big for the iPhone, and would be a comfortably bigger screen size. Hope these 4" rumors are true. :)

Very true. And you did not even have to read the Bio to find out that tidbit, it was all over the blogs.

And he claims to know the mind of Apple

Isn't this why we see all these Samsung lawsuits?

Apple already is crushing Android. The OS is made up of a very small group of fan-boys, and people who don't have enough $ or the right carrier for the iPhone. I did read Isaacson's book. Plus, Jobs isn't around to have a personal grudge anymore. And further, a cheap Apple alternative will never be eradicated. Why, because there's a market for a cheap Apple alternative - that by definition Apple cannot fill.

Now, what was that funny part again?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

It doesn't need to be bigger. You can use an iPad when you want real estate but for your pocket smaller, too a point, is better.

It's a pity that no one can answer my question. 2 people responded and both dodged my question. How will Apple win over Android users? Pretty sad if you guys can't answer this.

4" would be fine--or maybe 3.75", so that it fits in with the current overall iPhone dimensions (with a smaller bezel area). But no larger than that--no need for one of those 5.3" giant phones that's too big for a pocket, but too small to be an iPad.

Apple already is crushing Android??? Do you visit any non-apple websites? A lot of you guys are in a state of denial.

Maybe cause no one cares about your question. If you went over to Android you deserve what you get.

Financially yes. Do you visit any site but this and Android? In case you missed the headline, Apple takes in over half the mobile profits.

You don't have to take my word for it. Google it and weep.

To help you along your merry way:
Apple Headed for 60 Percent of Handset Industry Operating Profits

And why is this? Cause Android has a lot of junk phones out there, which yeah, boost there total handset numbers, but junk is junk.
There is site which shows some of the junk:
Android Landfill

It's because of this big pile of landfill that in part companies like HTC are starting to struggle:
HTC: Quietly Blundering

We want you to stay on Android. That way when a new iPhone is release, it is one less person standing on line.

Do you enjoy having Apple empty your pockets?

I just can't understand the fans who trumpet Apple's profits - you'd think that they'd realize that they're getting fleeced.

(see what I did? - "sheep", "fleeced" - ;) )

I want a larger screen, but edge to edge so the phone is as close in size to the current iterations as possible.

Many are saying edge-to-edge is the solution, but think about how you hold the phone. You'll always lightly touch the screen with the finger on the edge.

The bezel needs to be there so that the phone doesn't register it as a touch command. Sure Apple can use some sort of erroneous touch rejection in software, but it'll never be foolproof.

The bezel on the 4(S) is already very small.

Well HTC is certainly feeling a bit crushed:

Ps you can look at that link, Slashgear is quite a non-Apple site.

Your post would have more credibility if you were not a Macrumors Demi and have over 10,000 post.

However let's put it this way. If a person put all their time into webos, where would the person be today as far as their mobile OS? SOL.
The profitability of the platform at least lends some hope it will be around for awhile, thus making app purchases, hardware purchases, third party accessories less risky.

Whatever happened to that Dell Streak?

Another Apple fan that cannot answer my question and quotes high profits. What's going to happen when profit forecasts drop when people are jumping to other platforms?

Here is my Apple challenge. What will it take for Apple to win back Android users? Anyone? Or are we going to quote profits? It's actually a honest question.

Simple math. When it is no longer profitable not to have them. Right now you don't make a difference to their bottom line.

I would be more worried about how Google and Android are being attacked from various sides. Is it really true MS makes more off of Android then WM7?
