. The best of both worlds, the big shabang. It fits in your pocket and has enough room to fit a battery nearly twice the capacity of the iPhone and gives nearly ten hours of video playback with it.

Erm, the iPhone 4S gave 9:24 hours of video playback vs 8:25 hours for the 5.3" screened Galaxy Note, so better battery life is not a valid argument. The iPhone even lasted twice as long on the Web browsing test!

I can think of several reasons were a 5.3"inch screen is perfect. 9.7"inch just won't do when it comes to putting in your pocket and carrying around all day. 4"inch is not much bigger then 3.5"inch and doesn't give that much more advantage. A 5.3"inch is the perfect mix between the two. The best of both worlds, the big shabang. I agree with you but I don't know if you noticed the numerous other post on this thread. Apparently the very thought of a four inch iphone screen is a bit of anathema to some iphone users.

There seems to be an issue with handsize, dexterity and pocket size. LOL

Think Cabbage Patch doll:

Tada

I want next iPhone to have holographic projection technology which can enlarge and show the screen and also allow interaction at a bigger size when needed, and goes back to plain old 3.5 for portability etc.

Would be a dream come true!

There's also an issue with resolution, display ratio and the additional platform fragmentation changing those will cause.

Pants pocket I assume. You must have baggy pants or oversize pants. Half of the population will have a problem with this, but I understand. No one is holding you back. Go for that DROID or Galaxy, and make us proud.

Apple's high profits are short term, yet to see if that is sustained. hardly any market in enterprise, server areas, losing some in the media creation field as well. Those keep long term profits going. Apple could one day be looked at as a fad unless they get long term, Wii type casual buyers are not long terms. Zune is on Windows phone 7, a good move there by MS unlike skype LOL.

How long is short term? A ten year fad? The first iPod came out in October of 2001. That is a long fad man.

The Zune on Windows Phone 7 is good, but it's not like they had another option. The Zune was a flop, unlike the iPods, Itouch and other Apple music player's I see people sporting on NYC Subways and Metro North. Believe it or not, not everyone wants an iPhone, but they may want an iPod\itouch for their music needs. MS would have liked that market too.

Then you better fantastic battery technology!

I don't have a 4 inch display, I have an iPhone. LOL.

1: Renting a car on vacation, I would rather use my own navigation device and would prefer a larger screen. iPad can get a bit unwieldy in the front without a car mount.

2: I am visiting an area I have never been in before and know I will needs maps.

K, I'm digressing a bit here. Since when did our civilization become utterly dependent upon navigation devices? If you really can't do without road finder help, by all means get the Galaxy Note or whatever the next oversize plastic phone they come out with next week.

Have you not noticed that a large chunk of the enterprise and server areas are moving to cloud computing these days?

We haven't even bought new servers this year where I work, we started running on EC2 and Azure instead. For better or worse, servers are a declining market.

I had the same arguement with a coworker back in 2005. He was going to Canada and his GPS was not working on his Benz. I teased him because of his consternation of having to print out maps. I grew up on the paper map.

Tell me, what do you do in a city you never been to navigate around? Use paper maps?

Navigation devices save gas and time.

You sound bitter because some people have an IOS device and want a Galaxy Note also. Don;t worry, I"m not giving up my iPhone or ipad. But I'm not gonna lock myself into any one manufacturer. I go with what works for me.

What will it take for Apple to win back Android users? Or are we going to quote profits?

Why would Apple want to win back Android users?

Android appeals to OCD knob twiddlers and bargain shoppers looking for freebies. Neither of those will be satisfied with an iPhone.

Apple will most likely continue to ignore these money-losing fringes, and focus on its profitable sweet spot, just as it does in computers. The company is more concerned with the quality of its sales over quantity.

Which would you rather make:

100 sales @ $1 ea
or
10 sales @ $10 ea

Which drains more from your company? Which allows more resources to be redirected back into product & market development?

iPod wasnt a fad, although its days may be numbered with so much moving to smartphones. Or declining a bit. Might not though, havent seen sales figures on that to be honest for a while. I was speaking of Macs becoming a fad or their rise in popularity. Not absolute but possible. Apple seems to have an idea of only doing niche style PC's in their future. My opinion of course.

Quick example, say a customer would like a Mac Laptop, wants a 15 inch, a lot dont want to pay 2k for one. No option to get one that size for a price closer to a k. Everyone else does this.

Yes but the cloud needs to run on servers, looks like no competition for MS. Unless they use Linux I guess.

EDIT: Above poster, Android appeals to a large mass of the market. What is wrong with that exactly? Apple likes to make believe they cant do that cause it would make them lose money, why people buy that BS is beyond me. They could have 5 different iphones and guess what, all would sell in large #'s. Being too greedy F's you in time. People like variety and choice, it was true with MS and will be true with Android. Just the way it is, Jobs was VERY good at business, but wasn;t perfect on his methods by any stretch.

I have no problem with people who wants to use the Galaxy Note also, which BTW I haven't heard of until today. Really? I thought I was being reasonable.

The low end market is not what Apple is after. If you have the opportunity to work with allot of 200,000 plus salary workers, you'll notice most have Macs at home. America has allot of people in that category.

I am not saying you have to make that much to own a Mac, it's just something I noticed.

Macs are also becoming popular in China.

You contradict yourself. You allude to Apple being to greedy in your "Being too greedy F's you in time." comment, yet you want state "They could have 5 different iphones and guess what, all would sell in large #'s." Wouldn't having more phones give them a larger market share, more profits? More greedy? Best to leave the low end phones to the low end phone experts like Dell, Samsung and HTC. That way everybody has a chance to get paid.

This is plain BS. You have no proof of that statement.

I am very happy with the 4/4S screen. I have an iPad 2 when I want bigger. I am hoping for a hi-res iPad 4 I may hold off for another year.

And a 4" screen but same size phone is fine but please don't make the phone bigger.

Nothing wrong with giving people with lesser income an opportunity who work hard themselves. 799 laptop, maybe a 799 imac, the mini is well priced for those folk though if they want that style of PC. I like the common man/woman, richers are usually snobs, not all the time. Apple can make plenty margin still if they wanted the mid market, I can understand staying out of the dirt cheap stuff.

I agree, I believe they could make a lower end computer and still make a profit. Especially since they have the reputation of strong arming parts vendor's for the best deals.

Yes it would, greedy to me is being lazy and recycling cases cause its cheap and know people will line up anyway. Greedy to me is a no choice environment.

As far as my statement of profits being lost if they made more phones more laptops, a mid range desktop, its not BS to me and to others. I respect what you're saying, I will not argue on a forum, just discussing things. Some people like to say with too many models they couldnt pull in those record breaking profits, I shouldnt have to look for them, I see it quite often.

EDIT: sorry mods I tried to put this in my other post, apologies for the double-ish post.

Greedy to me is an Android manufaturer putting out an Android device with nothing more than slight spec bump or slightly different case, offering the user no real bank for the buck. Choice is good, but how much of this is just junk and will never get an update:
Androd Choice

Kind of the same with Windows boxes. I am for it in a sense that those companies do that and sometimes a solid phone doesnt sell well and you get it free with a two year, whereas Apple is smart and their phone sells out so no need for firesales. It is a bit excessive though, I mean good lord their is like the same phone done over like 10 times. Just do 3 phones really well instead of 10 or god knows how many.

Skinny jean wearing men who have iPhones will revolt... They'll have to get pants that fit with real pockets and stop borrowing the girlfriend or sisters jeans...

Jokes aside its not a big deal I went from a small phone to a 4" phone without an issue.

Big is the new small

I for one have never understood the current "bigger is better" movement. That is not to say that bigger is automatically worse either, just that the vocal demand for bigger screens seems somewhat blown out of proportions. (No pun intended). The funny thing is that after the release of the iPhone the most popular rumor seemed to be that of an iPhone nano. It seemed "everyone" wanted a smaller phone.

I have my doubts if some global "ideal" size exists, but the current 3.5" might very well be the closest thing. (Or not). Either way there are some real challenges for Apple if they do decide to go with the bigger screen, even one with the same resolution/screen-ratio: Current apps would run fine of course, but pretty soon most developers would start developing Apps that took the larger screen into account when creating interface elements. This would mean that this new breed of Apps would not be practical to run on older devices. Not a huge problem, obviously, but if Apple would ever decide to scale the interface back down to a 3.5" it would be. Suddenly their newest device would run less apps than the prior models.

One of the beauties of iPhone/iOS as a platform is the solidity of the platform. The majority of apps have a similar feel as they're designed based on Apple's HIG for the platform and only two possible screen-sizes/ratios. So, even if a 4", 4.5" or 6" phone would be the "perfect" size Apple should approach a switch to larger screen-sizes with caution. They might throw away one of the distinct advantages they have over Android.

I like my 4.3 inch screen on my HTC Sensation, seems to be the perfect size for portability and viewing pleasure.

I think the possible answers should be:

- 3.5 inch

- 4.0 inch ( but only if it keeps the physical size )

- 4.0 inch ( even if larger physical size)
