I wish more people knew how scientific surveys are made.

They also ask the same question about every other port. Including the headphone jack in that list makes perfect sense even if it's not the port they're thinking about removing, as the data will serve as a point of comparison with other answers for other ports.

So wait a minute people are just getting these surveys now? That either means no new Mac hardware this year or these surveys don't apply. No way could Apple release new Mac hardware yet this year based on a survey from mid-September.

Hi Apple, in case you are reading this forum, I would appreciated it if you kept the MagSafe connection, SD card slot and headphone ports, in that order.

MagSafe connection is one of Apple's most innovative feature on the MacBooks. It's quick, safe, easy to connect and disconnect, tells you at a glance when your Mac is done charging --- all great features that Apple should hold on to!!

What's the obsession with Apple requiring dongles for everything? It's not like there is a lack of space for proper USB ports, thunderbolt and so on. We're going to have to end up carrying a whole array of different adapters to connect our stuff.

Apple doesn't care. They're obsessed with thinness and making money. Selling adapters makes them millions of dollars.

Also, if Apple is asking this now, that means the new MacBook Pros are quite a ways off. They wouldn't be asking this if they're going into production right now with release coming in a month or two. You're talking 6 months away minimum.

"The design of the MacBook Pro that's launching in 2016 has already been finalized ahead of its release, and Apple is likely to continue using the same design for several years going forward, so the removal of the headphone jack is probably not something that MacBook Pro users need to worry about for the foreseeable future."
i found that at this link:

;)

Nope. Two dollars licensing fee per accessories.

They're not going to be pushing lightning if they do this, though. Apple pushes wireless. Notice how they didn't announce amazing lightning earbuds. They announced wireless.

*rolls eyes*

They're pushing wireless. They've always pushed wireless.

Fine with me.

You might as well move to Android now, then. Or maybe WM.

If they remove this tiny IO port in a 15-inch form factor, I'm done with this company.

I'm already done;

Put up my MacBook Pro and Mac Pro for sale. I'm sticking to my Hackintosh. Only remaining apple product will be Airport router... and even that I'm going to replace with an Asus AC router.

All of these boneheaded moves are an insult to consumers.

If so, you get insulted easily.

Take it. My answer is a no. And I'll probably end up with the new rMacBook minus a headphone jack.

"...and we removed the headphone jack so you could get an extra two seconds of battery life!"

They are pushing the Air Pods feature to auto connect to each device so this isn't surprising. Also, all the other headphone makers appear to be more than happy to go to lighting/usb-c.

Answered it several times via proxies. All in favor if getting rid of it. Have no use for it. Welcome to 2016.

Or they're asking for a gen of Mac even further down the road.

I don't need a new thinner MBP, it can be left mostly as is...add a USB-C port on each side. Leave all other ports and keyboard alone. Move to bigger force touch track pad, add the the rumored row of touch keys and touchID fine, update the hardware. Here the design is fine, have the courage to keep it the same, like you did with the design of the iPhone 7 being same as iPhone 6

Need that HDMI port. Or at least make some sort of Chromecast alternative that is not the AppleTV so I can mirror my display. And about that SD slot.... I don't use it, but I think it's still a necessary port, especially in a Pro computer. The headphone jack is still needed since it's dual for microphones too.

You should rather say: don’t listen to people who don’t want meaningless change with purely commercial underpinnings. This isn’t about progress or technological advancement, only Apple claims that. There is no persuasive technical reason for removing the headphone jack, the alternatives are not qualitatively better and, in the case of wireless, even have practical shortcomings. On top of that Apple pushes for completely proprietary technology and will push for port fragmentation in audio devices. That the headphone jack is old technology, yet still so widely used, is a quality that should be respected and embraced, not ridiculed. Apple pretends to be virtuous, hence claiming it is courageous, but it is nothing of the sort. It is great marketing and profitable for them, nothing else.

That's what they said about the typewriter and the horseshoe. Good looking out to future.

My iPhone 7 is back ordered to October. And if we are to believe sales of the 7, people don't give a **** about 3.5 headphone jack. And are smart enough to know there are cheap dongles for those stuck in the past. No one is suffering.
It's just whinnying by loudmouths with nothing else to do but to complain about a "problem" that doesn't exist.
