Maybe Ive decided that four rows of pictures (with only one in the fourth row) on the Apple leadership page offended his sense of design and demanded to be removed.

Seriously, though, while I've been very impressed with his influence on hardware, I don't think that iOS 7 was a huge step forward, and in some cases is inferior to iOS 6 from a design perspective. However, I wouldn't be happy to see Ive leave completely. I guess we'll know more later today when we find out what's Cooking.

If this is true, then we will likely hear how he is leaving a team of experienced and visionary designers behind. We might even hear that he has not been the lead designer on any product for a few years now.

But let's all just be clear: in the same way that Tim Cook is a good CEO, he is not the legendary CEO Steve Jobs. This will be true of anyone else who replaced Ive.

Every team has a period of perfection and brilliance and this would truly mark the end of Apple's. They will be good, but they won't be Jobs, Ive and Mansfield amazing! I should include Forstall in there too, because under Jobs he was great!

Does anyone else feel that Cook doesn't inspire the same loyalty and dedication amongst his team? I like the new guys, but they hardly come across as fantatically faithfull....more talented career men!!

Ugh. I hope Ive doesn't go anywhere. iPod, iPhone, and iPad changed everything and, as I understand it, Ive had everything to do with these designs.

As much as I adore Apple, I would follow Ive to wherever he went.

Speculation: OS X 10.10 was demo'd to some higher ups and they hated his interface changes.

Think:
  • Every icon reduced to a single shape. "Simplicity in its finest form".
  • Monochrome for all UI. "Make the app's content the star".
  • The concept of a button gone; replaced with underlined text everywhere. "People understand this now".

They realized he needed help so they temporary removed him.

I would be very surprised if Ives left Apple right now.

It's engrained within him. And he knows he has a hugely loyal following regarding everything he has helped accomplish in Apple. Where else would he want to go and work? His heart is there I'm sure.

He certainly would not be leaving before the release of the watch anyway - his baby, unless there was some internal politics and disagreement, and Ives would no doubt win on anything like that as he has the keys to the apple kingdom.

Having said that, it is very sloppy if the apple website managers made that 'error' by accident - and if so, they should be fired.

Taxes are worse in the UK - nothing to do with that.

I can't see this being anything, would be very difficult to imagine Cook letting Ive go, especially with him being so core to the new direction of Apple software design

Apple's piss-poor quality of software design since he took over would be reason enough for him to be removed. The stagnant nature of the hardware design would be reason #2.

The small thumbnail image used previously in the Executive Profiles page is still available at:

Only the HTML element at leadership page seems to be missing.

One would assume that they probably would have removed images associated with page too if this was intentional; also this thumbnail is not used in full profile page that is still available.

My guess is that his image is still on the page, but he changed the fonts and image to be so light that it couldn't be seen by normal people. He seems good at that...

Markets are closed today. If you're going to drop this bombshell in February, today is the day you do it. Oh man.

No, you'd do it on a Friday after markets are closed (where all bad news gets buried), not on a random Monday off a day before markets re-open*.

*Unrelated, it's incredibly stupid that the stock market does not go 24/7.

So true: there are better looking phones out there. The Mac Pro is almost indistinguishable from the previous design. Ive's whole design ethic has been to never add anything that wasn't needed and to try to take away from what you have if it becomes redundant or open to reduction.

Every product he has designed has been honed and refined over a long period of time. The reason the MBP are just jaw droppingly beautiful compared to other laptops is that it is a 10+ year old design that is being constantly refined.

If you like knobs, curves and bumps on a design because they look cool, then Apple was never for you!!!
