I have owned 7 Macs since I switched almost 4 years ago (I started small with cheap, used machines and worked up). Out of 7 machines, I have had ONE failure

I have owned 7 macs also--no failures. I have owned four PCs--three failures.

I use both platforms, but always use mac when I have a choice! ;)

Anyway, that's extremely unusual for Apple products. Any company is going to have a dud from time-to-time and you can cherry-pick whatever you want to support a highly subjective view. What the CR stats confirm, in as objective a way as possible, is that such failures are far less frequent for Apple products than for their PC counterparts.
Yep. I wouldn't be surprised if the cherry-picking went both ways.

Ha! I owned one of those. No logic board problems for me. I loved that machine.

Go argue with them and their methodologies, not us.

I keep seeing failures for Apple products all the time - from the 4850 iMac issue to the iBook G3s to the NVIDIA cards in the 17 inch MacBook Pro. People say "Apple makes the HW AND the SW" then why can't they ever get it right (especially when it comes to graphics)?

except the fanboys will still keep on claiming the reason apple charges a premium is because their hardware is superior and better built even though they're using the same mass production methods as pcs.

Well what the hell does that matter? If anyone wants to use falsehoods in their arguments thats their problem. What does it matter if they say that?

I'm sorry but it seems like all you do on this site is lead a crusade against the "fanboys". Why?

Isn't this website itself some sort of proof that Apple makes products that are extremely appreciable?

Yep. I wouldn't be surprised if the cherry-picking went both ways.

I would. I've seen these kinds of stats from CR for over 10 years now and they confirm what I see in my every day life. I work in a place with a mix of Macs and PCs. The PCs fail far more frequently than the Macs.

because people claim that macs are more "reliable" than pcs and thats why there is a premium on apple computers when clearly that's false.

What part of "Please note, 'my butt' does not count as a valid source" did you not understand?

Do you know why a lot of mac users use Dell displays instead of Apple. It's because Apple doesn't sell a display with specs they want within their budget.

The same goes with PCs. Everyone has a budget. Even Apple fans. Just because it's cheaper doesn't mean "it doesn't do what you want".

PC's don't do what I want, not because they are cheaper, because they just don't do what I want.

CR has compiled stats that are as objective a source as we can get for this information and it contradicts your view.

Hmm... who to trust, who to trust?

I dont think you get what im asking so ill put it bluntly.

WHY DO YOU CARE, AND WHY DOES IT BOTHER YOU SO DAMN MUCH?

PC's don't do what I want, not because they are cheaper, because they just don't do what I want.

well certainly there are some apple users where dell displays don't do what they want so they go to the more expensive apple displays. but still a lot of mac users do go to dell since it does do everything they want.

the same can be said of mac vs pc.

Obviously no one cares that the Mac Mini and iMac finished second. I don't care about the Mac Mini, but why is the iMac coming in second to Dell?

Yeah, I used to be a "Dell guy" but the last THREE Dells I owned were enough trouble that I quit Dell before I quit PCs. I must admit, however, that I had excellent luck with HP - 5 machines with no major HARDWARE issues. :)

To steal (and slightly modify) a line from another MR member, "they'll have to pry my 13" Macbook from my cold, dead hands." :D Greatest machine I've ever owned.

Go to MacRumors.com and its iMac forum to see that it ain't coming out of my butt.

That is a highly subjective view reinforcing itself with highly selective sources and information.

Objective source of statistics for product info says otherwise. I know whose word I'm taking.

Not that I suspect you're interested in substantive discourse ... but the reason Apple charges a premium is because of the integration between the hardware and their OS. And since Apple-branded hardware is the only game in town per the EULA, Apple can and does charge said premium.

higher specs for cheaper most likely. and the whole quad core thing. if i were to buy another desktop in the future it would be a dell, and to then be hackintoshed.

hello quadcore 3.0GHz hah
