The iPad is glossy right? And backlit? I can't imagine that a device like that is very reading friendly, it probably puts quite a strain on the eyes if you read for a few hours...

Which is exactly why e-ink was created. How the iPad is Steve's most important thing ever is only important in one area from what I can tell... and that's making money.

Nothing wrong with that at all, either.

Honestly can't believe they went with iPad over iSlate.

This is nothing but a big iPhone. Why would any iPhone user (millions of them) want one? There is no ground breaking feature.

What, you can't believe it because it doesn't agree with the title "iSlate" that all the so-called "pundits" predicted?. iLol. I actually sat down and had a think two hours ago, about what it might be called... and my very first logical name was "iPad" - it just jumped into my mind... and it makes iSense.

It looks like a great device, but given its functionality, I'm puzzled about how it fits into the lineup. I've got an iPhone already.

If this thing had a Core 2 Duo and the equivalent of a 256-512mb videocard, I'd probably chuck my Macbook Pro tomorrow. But as it stands . . . it seems like a great tablet device, no doubt, but I can make calls on my iPhone. Perhaps down the line the iPad will pack enough of a punch to replace my MBP, and if that's true, that functionality should have been included *today* and demoed today.

This thread reads like a parody.

I can't understand the over the top negativity - - unless you really were expecting a Jesus tablet...

This thread is full of disappointed fanboys who were expecting heaven in a touchscreen box.

Honestly this thing looks pretty cool.

Agreed, it's a measure of how far we have come with tech though - something this amazing is greeted with a meh.

I wasn't interested until the art app which intrigued me a little but not enough because I'm a terrible drawer lol. The ebooks functionality though has got me slightly interested. I'd never by something that just did ebooks but this...

Well as always it depends on the price.

Somewhat underwhelming. It will probably sell well enough (people who have lots of cash to burn and want to look cool will eat this up) but I feel like I can do almost everything on my iPhone, and I'm willing to deal with the smaller screen size for the added portability. The cool thing about the iPhone/iPod touch is that you can bust it out anywhere... I don't really see that with the iPad.

iPad is a horrible name btw. Did they not run this name by any women??

The iPad was a waste of my last hour.I'm glad I didn't go after all,it was too big of a disapointment.I mean,iPhone OS?Come on I would only get it if it had modified Sow Leopard. And the storage isn't impressive, same as a iPod Touch,10 hours of battery is the only cool thing on it.

I could not agree with you more. What a total disappointment. It's just a big iPod touch.

Then you have Steve say stuff like.

"What this device does is extraordinary. You can browse the web with it. It's the best web experience you've ever had."

80% of the web has some form of Flash. How could this be "the best web experience you've ever had."

iPad = iFail

At least it uses ePub. May be a nice alternative to a nook if priced cheaply enough. I have some ePubs that hopefully will work

Steve Jobs called it "truly magical and revolutionary".

Unfortunately one of George Washington's turds in a wizard hat falls under the same category.

HUGE FAIL..... ouch!

Ibooks .... lmfao....

STEVEO they have E-INK tech for a REASON....
who's going to read them books on LCD.... ya crazy ?

I honestly think this thing is pretty slick ... BUT it all comes down to PRICE.

Good price = cool
Try to sell it as something "high end" = fail

Probably wonderful.

I take it you were joking. My guess is you can type twice as fast on a iPhone. Trying to use both your hands to type on a touch screen is impossible. Because of the size, using your thumbs or a few fingers will be hard as well.

ugly device is ugly. what's with the inch thing border around the screen. jesus, and it looks like the first iphone.

what ever happened to apple being original in its designs?

Flash?

My question is unlike will this thing be able to play flash? If not this product is still lacking.

Folks, I don't know how many times it has to be said, but the rumors of an Apple Tablet device are FAKE. Steve Jobs himself has said that Apple is NOT interested in making a tablet device.

Repeat: NO tablet. So what WILL be announced today?

- New content deals for TV subscriptions on iTunes and Apple TV
- New iPhone OS 3.2/4.0
- New iWork and iLife 2010

Like everyone has said, why aren't you posting a retraction? Be a mensch.

Ehhh, nothing special.

Not very portable and if you drop it, that screen is going to be very expensive to replace.

No built in phone, either.

I wouldn't mind having one on my desk at work if my company paid for it or subsidized some of the cost, but I don't see people lining up for it like they did the iPhone.

I think we'll see some guys wearing "iPurses" in the future to carry their iPad.

I'll keep my iPhone and if I want/need a bigger screen that's portable, I'll go with a $300 Netbook.
