Lol, everyone I know is emailing me "It's just a big iPod!? :-( "

If this was called the ZunePad by MS, wonder how many defenders it would get. What a lackluster dud.

iWork makes it seem better, but nothing can forgive the closed OS and 64gb max storage.

iWork for iPad... *BING* we have a winner.

Content creation on a device this small... if they got the interface right this might be just about perfect.

iLife would be nice as well Steve *hint hint*

Oh, and all those bitching about Flash and Divx... please, go and buy a laptop. You'll be far happier and believe it or not those are both features the vast majority of users can live without. Thanks

Question: can we use a virtual yellow highlighter in these readers? That's what would make them useful as reference / textbook replacements (for me, anyway).

Actually, GREAT point. or if you cannot highlight, can you place an icon over and annotate some text as a note like "This is important" or "Professor said this about the topic".

So it really is just a giant iPod Touch. This is so embarrassing. It can't even function as a stand-alone computer; you will need a main computer to sync it with.

I think it's becoming evident that Steve Jobs only does well when he takes a product category and focuses on usability, creating a revolutionary device as a result. There was no usability problem here for him to solve, and the result is a real iTurkey.

I know, I know. Some people will love it. I am happy for them. But it's going to sell far fewer units than even the MacBook Air, I'll bet, and may even be discontinued, like the Hi-Fi. Guess we'll see.

Is there anything else?

There are so many things which Apple would get me really excited, like

Release new iPhone OS
Update the MacBook Pro
Update the 30 Cinema Display
Update Snow Leopard to support Blu-Ray playback

etc...

This iPad is an epic failure right from the start, it doesn't even tempt me to part with my money...

In fact, I recall being more excited going home with my newly purchased Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate

Most posters here don't like the iPad?

HOW SHOCKING! I can't believe it!

Seriously, what's wrong with a big iPod Touch? The future for this (if there is one) is eBooks/magazines/news papers. It remains to be seen if there is a market for this, but what I can tell you is that right now it is too soon to tell.

Wow, what a huge disappointment so far. There had better be one huge "one more thing" to save this.

This thread is full of disappointed fanboys who were expecting heaven in a touchscreen box.

Honestly this thing looks pretty cool.

+1. I like that it has the Mac Dock and it looks more like the Mac UI than the iPod Touch. The complainers are just talking crap, they'll be buying one, but they won't admit it today. Bitching on MR is a ritual, it wouldn't be MR if people didn't act this way.

I can't imagine taking this on a NYC subway to read - getting stares all around when you want to be left alone - not to mention the seedy thieves who like to take shiny Apple items.

There's still time to go but so far it doesn't do it for me. I have a MBP+iPhone. My thought was to sell the 17", get a tablet and an iMac. An MBA+iMac combo looks better .... for now ... for me.

Yes, I am a little disappointed.

Which is exactly why e-ink was created. How the iPad is Steve's most important thing ever is only important in one area from what I can tell... and that's making money.

Nothing wrong with that at all, either.

Thats why I have an iPod for games and music and my Kindle for reading *s*

iWork for iPad?

Just ignore that! The Macrumors posters have assured me that the iPad is the exact same thing as an iPod Touch and we should believe them. Just move along and ignore iWork please!
